Didn't Headland has to pass a fitness test am I right?

Not really. Des just had to make it through the training session today unscathed, as did all the players named in the 22. Mundy was the only player with a question mark - yesterday morning on radio he said that his foot was fine and he would definitely play.

Unless something happened at training today, Broughton will not play.

Thanks for that. I'll take the risk and leave him out of my side this week.

Broughton

Which other players is Broughton competing with for a spot in the team?

I imagine the injury to Hayden will help Broughton in that regard.

Would he also be competing with Dodd and Thornton?

Appreciate your thoughts

Re: Broughton

Broughton would be competing directly with Head, O'Brien (inj.) and Pratt (elevated rookie) for Hayden's spot. Pearce (rookie) may also provide some competition after the mid-season break. Of the other 'defenders' not currently playing Drum and Bucovaz (inj.) would be indirect competition. Harvey sometimes plays Gilmore across HB as well so he's worth mentioning.

I imagine the injury to Hayden will help Broughton in that regard.

It really depends how Harvey wants to swing it. Hayden had been spending a fair amount of time forward, so instead of a defender a small forward/midfielder may come into the side eg. Walters. Ballantyne (inj.) and Mayne (inj.) will also come into the forward/midfield mix over the next couple of weeks.

Would he also be competing with Dodd and Thornton?

Not really, Thornton has been played mostly as a defensive forward this year. IF both Mayne and Ballantyne come into the side, Thornton will possibly head back into defence which might effect Broughton. Hopefully the only place Thornton goes back to is South Fremantle though.

Dodd generally plays on medium/tall/athletic types.

Personally, I'd expect Broughton to play a fair bit of footy over the remainder of the season. He's in my DT and I'm pretty happy to keep him as a ridiculously cheap injury back-up for now.

The only problem I can see - apart from his form dropping off, or injury - is that most of the players he's competing with are in contract years. If Harvey decides he wants to take a closer look at these guys in the later rounds Broughton may become the scapegoat. Though by then Hayden should be back and he'll probably have been ousted anyway.

Hey guys, just a few queries about Ballantyne

I've heard his name tossed up a bit pre season.
Where is he at with his footy?
What type of player is he and what are his measurements and what positions does he play?

Thanks guys

He is Paul Medhurst and Mark Lecras meeting and having a baby :thumbsu:

D 16 , K 13 , H 3, M 3, T 0, I50 4, G 5, B 1
in his first WAFL game for the year... His opponent was fellow Docker Luke Pratt.

Picked up a corkie late in the game, if he pulls up ok I would think he would come straight in. We got hit hard by injuries on the weekend.

He had a good game on the weekend in the WAFL, kicking 5 goals. However, he got injured later in the game [calf, I think] and may be sidelined for few weeks. Check our board later in the week for more details. Once he's fit he'll be slotting straight in.

Hey i'm looking for a cheap fwd from Freo. Who would be a better pick in your eyes.

Michael WALTERS.
or
Hayden BALLANTYNE.

Do you think Walters will hold his spot in the side and How long until we see Ballantyne crack into the side? Is he still injured.

Thanks guys.

Ballantyne would have played last weekend, but was a late withdrawl after sustaining a nock in his come back game for Peel (after kicking 5 goals mind you)

I think in terms of a cheap forward option you'd definately be better off taking Hayden Ballantyne. Walters may just hold his spot for the rest of the year, but once Ballantyne comes in, he will stay in there's no two ways about it

do any freo fans know if ballantyne is fully recovered from his injury?
want to get him and im pretty sure if he is fit they will play him nearly every remaining match this season but yeah is he right to go for this round?
afl has him as 'test'
