Aussie Flag banned at BDO!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Akin to "Eat my meat pie or wear it".

Would you like them to ban cars because drivers might run you over , or ban bikes because of that tosser on Beach Rd. who ran the red light and killed the poor elderly gent ?
Of course not so they should deal with the issue i.e. the bashings, not ban the national symbol.

eerrr the problem is they are using the flag as their symbol of hate. And if you were to ban bogans or yobbos from either one day cricket or BDO then sadly there won't be many tickets sold. Thats the sad truth.

No but cars are on public roads, as are bikes.

This is a private event, and it's well within the freedoms of the organisers who wish to make this festival about music, not politics.

It's unfortunate that a group of bogans ruined it for everyone else. And I doubt it will fix anything, but if you value freedom you have to respect their choice to ban it.

I see your point - but still believe that our National Flag is not a political symbol - it is our national flag. It is still like the motor vehicle analogy- is it a deadly weapon or a means of transport ???

A car is both, hence the crime vehicular manslaughter.

In much the same way, some idiots have decided to turn our national flag into a symbol of hate.

Now banning it outright would be ridiculous, but if an organiser of an event didn't like the way the flag was being used the year before (in Sydney only, the flag is still allowed everywhere else) they have every right to ban it.

I imagine if there's no similar incedents people will be free to wear it again next year.

All in all, an extremely dissapointing situation.

How on earth can displaying an Australian Flag by an Australian in Australia be deemed racist !!!!!!

For christ sake - what planet do you come from.

Next thing you'll want the banning of eating meat pies in public because this is too Australian.

Truly a bizarre view of our country.

So eating meat pies in public is comparable to hitting people who refuse to kiss a flag?

When using it to promote a racist cause - as per Cronulla - then it's racist. Unfortunately, too many racists in Australia - and in fact globally - hide behind a faux-nationalism to legitimate their racist beliefs for it to be just coincidence.

Clearly the people running the BDO realise that the sort of people that would wear Australian flags to an international music festival are likely to include many who's reasoning would be that of the Cronulla rioters - and thus they wish to circumvent the problem by asking that people leave their nationalism at the door, and come without flags. At the very least, it makes it more difficult for these people to identify each other at the venue, and thus more difficult for them to cause problems in groups.

The complete and utter idiocy that lurks behind a comment like this needs to be emphasised to the world in case anyone made the mistake of taking you in any way seriously....

I like the irony of them trying to suppress political views and make it about the music, yet many of the bands performing have songs inspired by politics

Ken West is, and always has been a knob

Mr Q - you have to understand that the Sydney BDO is usually on Australia Day. As it is, they moved it but its still on that weekend.

Given those circumstances, I would wear Australia clothing to the BDO as a joint celebration and im certainly not an abusive bogan.

Id also like to point out that those people forcing the kissing of the flag was an extreme minority. From a guess about 25,000 people would attend as a minimum. Even if it was 10 people, its not enough to warrant stereotyping of innocent people and changes.

What they need is to have adequate security staff to issue warnings or act upon these antisocial behaviours. But they means less profit...

Well I just saw some footage of last years BDO & there were quite a few people drapped in the flag or wearing T-shirts, tatoos, headbands etc with the Aussie flag. How many again were involved in this flag kissing incident? So far I'm yet to hear any reason at all to ban the flag only plenty of reasons to have security enforce acceptable behaviour. If somebody wants to start some trouble (particularly for racial reasons) then weather or not they have a flag with them is inconsequential. Remove idiots not the flag.

You know what folks, us non bogans (yes there are a lot of non bogans in this country) are really feed up with boganism and its rise in the past decade (funny enough its all happened during the cruel and nasty howard years). We are fed up with bogans attacking and believing, word for word, everything the media tells. We are sick and tired of Bogans being used to represent what Australia is all about. These stupid bogans do not understand that the media are using them as pawns to sell papers.

Did anyone go to last years BDO? Did anyone have to encounter groups of drunken yobbos (the ones you see at one day cricket games) walking around antagonising people and forcing them to kiss the flag or else there would be dire consequences? Did anyone see the group of anglo guys abuse an ethnic looking girl for refusing to kiss the flag?

Thats what the issue is here people, not Political Correctness gone wrong. People in this country HAVE to start to think first before they make an opinion, this is a legacy of the Howard government and the way the media has been able to manipulate the common folk and feed their prejudices. The media have a lot to answer for especially the editors of various newspapers. I know Johnny and Co are rubbing their hands with glee at todays over reaction, they have trained the media well.

Bogans should not be allowed to have much say in anything. They are current making life impossible for normal Australians and eroding a lot of hard work people have done through the years.
I bet you hear this alot: "Please sir, can you leave as you are making a complete fool of yourself"

Doesn't represent me, if anything the aboriginal flag is more a symbol of this country than an out dated racist piece of cloth which i would wipe my bum with.

You do realise the Australian flag was legally recognised in 1954 (after being designed in 1934) whereas the aboriginal flag didnt exist until 1971 and not legally recognised until 1995?

Isnt it the aboriginal flag that's created division?

As i said i have nothing but contempt for the current flag. It does not represent who i am at all.

good onya - why does that mean you abuse anyone that sees pride in the flag?

Do you abuse people that have a differing opinion to you about religion, politics, shampoo etc.. simply because you disagree?

A mature person wouldnt resort to abuse but instead discuss the matter to get a better understanding and perhaps agree to disagree. Abuse is lame.

What are you trying to articulate here young man? Where did i abuse? Are you offended that I don't celebrate Australia Day as some nationalistic bull******** event, rather a day where the original inhabitants of this land had their land taken away from them by whitey for the good cause of whitey?

The truth hurts sometimes.
