Weird game. I was happy with the effort, especially because I thought we'd get poleaxed like West Coast did against Sydney (though tbh the conditions evened out the contest a bit). But the lack of composure in key moments was frustrating and I don't wanna see Zurhaar until he sorts himself out. He's not providing anything atm. Also, our performance today made me even filthier about the West Coast game. We show that level of toughness in the contest in round two and we never lose that game.

. Our backline has to be the most embarrassingly dumb bunch of individuals. Lmac, Comben, Corr, Logue, Daniel…. What a ****ing disaster of a backline. All teams need to do, is just get the ball inside their 50 and the rest will take care of itself.

So, hard fought out game against an up and about double winning champion team, who have hit their straps. Perfect ingredients for similar melting as when we lose by 70+ against mediocre opposition.

The final score doesn't reflect how close the game was and how well the boys played. Missed some important opportunities with easy skill errors but I feel like something has turned for us.

Positives: Trembath, Jy, Logue, Chom, LDU. Negatives: CCJ, Spargo, Corr which is probably a major reason we fell over at the end. Unfit, not skillful enough, not intense enough.

Key takeouts:

• Jy played a selfless and high impact game. Enough of the calls for him to be dropped.
• Banch and Dov in the same side could be a real problem for oppositions in time. We need to persist with Banch, showed glimpses that set him well apart from Konstanty and Spargo.
• FOS plays, Pink plays, I think we take this one.

It's deliberate. Neither team pulls a huge crowd when playing each other at home, so this is the best case scenario. AFL wants Brisbane playing Coll, Ess, Carl, Haw in Melbourne. Brisbane doesn't want to host NMFC.
