Autopsy Autopsy vs Carlton - absolutely bashed the shit out of the Blues

Are we really young tho? I keep hearing this narrative but looking at the team's average age and average games played reads differently.
It's the same thing as when Boomer, Petrie, Waite were playing etc.
A heap of youngsters with a few rather old players who push out the average age.
We're missing that core 24-29 range that a lot of good teams have.

Was absolutely apparent after we beat West Coast and people complained about the manner in which we won.

We won.

We’ve lost so often how can anyone complain about any wins.
I'll watch the replay of the first three quarters and see the much maligned players we've all had frustrations with demonstrably belt the shit out of what should be a finals contending team. And I'll probably ignore the last quarter but I'll still see them sing the song. And that's what matters, particularly after we've watched 7 wins in 4 years or whatever

Well well North, few months ago I completely doubted a 6 win pass mark but we could make the grade.

We’re definitely building something to the back end of the season, the cohesion and slight changes are working well. Seeing Clarkson pensive at the siren was actually the best sign I’ve seen all season; he’s not happy with that last half and especially that last quarter, and Sheezel also stated it was a poor end so both ends acknowledge we’re still shit in some respects.

But we really stuck it up Carlton at the ‘G of all places and that’s probably my favorite win all year no matter how you slice it. We played some of our best team based footy all season today, for a half. Stitch it to four quarters and that’s a side that can boast a campaign for finals, maybe.

It’s not how you teach a team to win.

They need to learn to be ruthless and push, not try and kill a game with 30 mins left.

If you are happy to teach a team to play to leave themselves vulnerable and a chance to be run over, then expect to be let down by teams coming over the top of us.
I agree, but from the look on Clarko‘s face I don’t reckon the way the played in the last was according to the coaches instructions.

Three quarter time I was thinking of the big wins against hoodoo sides in 94 and 95 - bit flat to not even score in the last and also not defend well, but I’m taking it as a reminder that Carlton beat Geelong and while overratedare not the Eagles. Winning that is 100% good.

I'll quote this to you next time you selectively moderate one of my posts then ;)
You should call him a muppet…

Having been woeful for the best part of 5 years, we put together probably the best football up to 3/4 time I've seen in that stretch, and people are miserable?!

We lost to these punters by 85, 2 months ago. Sure it's a bit disappointing we stopped in the fourth, but we are talking about a team that was manic for the first three quarters and not been in that position in a long long time. I didn't know what to do as a supporter - so God knows what the players must have been thinking. Think in the long run it will be a good lesson to the team about how quickly things can shift if you take the foot off the gas in the last. Lessons learned and all that.

In the interim, having woken up in London for the last 5 years at 4:30am to watch us get flogged - I'll take that win.

It's absolutely legitimate to enjoy the win but still acknowledge the significant issues/negatives.

I love that we won, but if that game went even 2 minutes longer, we were in a hell of a lot of trouble. 2 of the best quarters we've played this year, and one of the worst.

Toby Pink goes alright.
Tom Powell apparently no good at footy?
We made them hurt. Hard hits & tackles.Few sore Carlton boys tonight.
We had that buffer for the last quarter because we dominated the two before it, 9 goals to 3.
Chom a warrior, but needs a break (from footy, not another bone).
Darling & Parker have been imortant additions (ala Luke Hodge helping set up Brisbane’s rebuild).
Wish we had more games at the G.

Still no improvement? I’m sure at least a couple of the usual suspects here will say this win is still not real progress. Still going on with that? Or can you see we actually are better than last year? You know who you are.

Go Roos!

100% we are improving, but it’s the same old stupid footy holding this team from breaking out.

The mentality of just trying to hold on is talking them nowhere.

Today was the day to be ruthless and play to bury a side.

Carlton can’t score if we take it forward, but instead we just wanted to play in the back half and invite the pressure.

Almost a year exactly. Doesn't feel like that long ago to me in the context of this five and a half year stretch

Who would have thought, considering where we have come from, I could be disappointed with a win, but that fourth quarter was so deflating that it almost overshadows our performance in the second and third quarters. I guess with young teams that are still learning to win it is going to happen from time to time but that fourth quarter felt every bit as shattering as the final quarter against Collingwood or the early season performances against Sydney, Gold Coast or Carlton in the Good Friday game, I was like that Carlton kid I wanted to cry.

In the second and third quarters, we played some of the best football we have played this decade, we were angry, aggressive, and really took it up to a more experienced team. Without the ball we looked well-structured behind the ball, cohesive and proactive and then with ball in hand we looked skillful and even arrogant at times, it was the most exciting football I've seen from North since the first half of the Collingwood game last season.

What we saw in the second and third quarters needs to be the new normal for North Melbourne, we don't want to go back to what we saw in 2022, 2023, early 2024 and the fourth quarter today.
