...remember how much most of you bagged Polak last year.

Some acted like the world was coming to an end and the RFC was a disgrace and going backwards etc etc etc.

So if we pick up Hooper or Moran or Brennan or whoever - don't cry on here about what a pathetic club we are.

Yeah but I think that given if we get Morton, it means that we will 95% sure be getting Cale, Cale is probably a great player and will be for whatever club he goes to, but he is the exact type of player we DON'T need, another Flanker/Wingman, why can't we just persevere with Casserly, JON, Meyer, Connors, Deledio, Tambling and others.

Pick up Rance or Ebert in the draft and then go for someone else with pick 18.

I think one of the main problems too with the Morton trade is that it looks as if we are going to trade Pick 19 for someone who hasn't even done anything, I would much rather go for a player like Blake, Moran, Wood before trading pick 19 away for a player that plays a very similar game to many of our other forwards.

Ok, I'll hold off until after the first NAB cup round.

Moran, Hooper. etc etc. Give me a break.

I think it's the only problem with any of the trades that are being mentioned with us this year.
We will end up trading away draft picks for hacks. Unless we can get quality in the ilk of Polak, Brown etc, then I just wish we would not get involved for once.
I'd rather use our first four picks (2, 18, 19 and 35) on kids and develop a culture of young men who will be RFC through and through.
Getting involved in trade week just for the sake of it is ridiculous.
Basically we tanked our last game to get Mitch Morton? WTF?

Maybe we are going for Morton from WC because Pettifer might be on the table.

Want to elaborate on that? If Pettifer is on the table...?

Petts is passionate about the RFC. I'd rather him stay. Hes not a bad player and no one from other clubs rate him.

I think this is a real possibility.

Looking at the review of St.Kilda in the paper today they seemed to hint at needing a player in the mould of a Pettifer, of course no names were named but they said, St.Kilda need a mid-sized forward target in the ilk of Ryan O'Keefe and Robert Murphy.

I would not like to see Petts go but depending on what we could get for him I would look at it.

As you can see from these two threads there aren't many on this site that rate him, so thank god none of these people are on any football teams board.

Moran
Mcmahon
Blake
Morton

ive heard all of these in

and the only outs ive heard are

PSD picks
3rd round picks
Krackour
Schultz (for a 3rd round)
Hartigan

All 3 of those are likely to be delisted
so anything we get is a bonus
McMahon 2 years ago everyone was after collingwood chased him heavily
Moran got given Wayne Careys number and looks to have plenty of upside
Morton from all report would have gone top ten if it wasnt for f&s rule
Blake rucked in the top side last year

all these atm look like pretty good signings considering what were losing

If I were to be going for a trade right now it would be for Martin Mattner, seeming we are wanting to get rid of Pick 35 I would offer that up to the Crows with Krakouer, Hyde or Schulz.

All the Crows want from Sydney is a 2nd round pick plus Stephen Doyle, or it will just be a straight swap for DOYLE!!!

Mattner is not old, he is a proven player, can stick to a man and defend and can also run off and create, RICHMOND TRY, TRY, TRY AND GET HIM!!!

Thoughts on our targets:

Moran - would be happy to get him over Blake (don't think we will get near him). 21 yo, 200cm, 104kg kid who picked up 22 possies on debut. If we pick him up for 35 and/or Hartigan then we have won out IMO.

McMahon - averaged 19 possies a game over the last 3 years. Although he is seen as an uncontested soft outside player I think he would be another handy pick up if we are not going to pay over the odds to get him.

M.Morton - while he has not set the world on fire in his time at the Eagles we could do worse than recruiting him. Like the sounds of his brother from the reports at draft camp. If we can pick up both for pretty much pick 2 in the ND tell me where have we gone wrong.

Blake - If the Saints want to offer him $800k over 3 years and land him then they can have him. If we had to match that sort of offer to even be in the discussion then I prefer we target Moran as stated above.

The fact we finished stone motherless last any players that can possibly help us climb up the ladder are welcome IMO. All the talk over the past half of the season was we need to off load our hacks and replace them with better talented players then why are so many against us doing what is being speculated on during this week.

all well and good benny with regards to moran and brennan but i will not be pleased AT ALL if we pick up hooper in the PSD for 500k over 3 years...not for a player who wanted to give up footy at the start of the year!

McMahon might be soft but he is also one of the best 10 kicks in the league. He is used in the same way that Carlton have used Houlihan in the past. A specialist kicker out of the backline.

The Dogs feed McMahon the ball because they know he can hit targets and create goals ... when your forward line consists of little blokes like Johnson and Murphy you need that great kicking. He could hit Richo on the chest with his eyes closed, hands behind his back and shorts round his ankles.

Cale Morton, Mitch Morton, McMahon = club wants to improve kicking through the middle.

Hooper, Byrnes = club wants a defensive FP to create pressure.

Playfair = club wants a cheap replacement for Hall as the very tall defender, partly to release Polak forward?

Moran, Wood, Blake = club wants a ruckman who can be a genuine backup to Simmonds and Pattison next season.

Forget the actual names being bandied around, and you can't argue too much with what the club is trying to do.

Mitch Morton-Swapping pick 19 for 30.Hmmmmmm not that bad of a deal if you take into consideration he was touted as a top 10 pick with something we lack.Footskills.The deal might even get sweeter if we can help WC land pick 1.

McMahon-Yet again another excellent kick.Perhaps a straight swap Shultz for McMahon i can live with.

Moran-Rumour has it Hartigan and pick 35.Do it Greg!

Hooper-Must admit im nervous about this deal.Start of the year he quit football.Id prefer we chase Selwood.

Rumour has it the Hawks are interested in Meyer.Considering he,s out of contract we havent got much of a leg to stand on.Possible swap of picks 29 for 35 might be on the cards. If so then use pick 30 in the Moran deal.

Spot on- it is very obvious that an upgrade in skills is being sought, along with a FP who can actually put some defensive pressure on. Well summarised Weaver, have been thinking the same thing

Not sure if you're taking a pot shot at me or agreeing with me.

I'm all for upgrading players we have with little skill for players with good skills. As you said at the end if we forget about the names and concentrate on what these players bring to the table then it is not as bad as some would like to make it out.

Here is how I hope trade week/PSD pans out:
M.Morton & 30 for pick 19.
McMahon to Tigers, Schulz to Port, White to Dogs.
Moran for Hartigan and 51.
Boyle for Meyer & 18 or 30 (long shot but why not offer it up).

Would leave picks 2, 18 or 30(depending on Boyle deal) 35 for the draft. Use pick 2 on Cale Morton, the other 2 would depend on where they fall.

Then PSD pick 1 for Hooper (assuming Judd is not available).
