Ken Farmer “The Don Bradman of goalkickers”

He was unnervingly accurate shooting for goals with the screw and flat punts (drop punts not being part of the game at that time).

He holds the equal record for most goals kicked in a SANFL or elite match with 23.6 against West Torrens, out of his side's score of 26.11.

In 13 seasons and 224 games for North Adelaide, Farmer kicked 1417 goals, making him the highest goal scorer in the history of the SANFL and elite Australian rules football, records that stand to this day. His average of 6.33 goals per game exceeds that of even VFL legends such as Peter McKenna, Gordon Coventry and Tony Lockett (VFL/AFL record 1360 goals), and WAFL legend Bernie Naylor.

Lockett and Dunstall were accurate and the best kicks for goal I've seen. Reason; they rarely moved away from the goal square which is what effects accuracy in the current climate. Players now spend far too much time running up the ground that by the time their ready to take a shot on goal they're spent.

Playing from the goal square would have helped but they did lead as far out as the 50 meter arc, they also basically followed the same kicking pattern regardless of where they took the shot from and they both mostly looked to lead down the corridor.

If we use the Max Gawn's miss, if that had been either Dunstall or Plugger, they would have taken their time to settle, they would have gone through their normal steps and more than likely would have kicked the ball straight through the middle, instead Maxy just rushed it and shanked it.

Statistically, Michael Murphy is the most accurate. But for players who were goal kickers, then it is

Lockett 69.74%
Hudson 68.78%
Lloyd 68.59

Dunstall is at 66.17% which is below Mark Jackson

That is a pretty defining list and makes a good argument for those who believe Franklin is just an average kick for goal.
Two things, does this take into consideration how many shots at goal players have had. Secondly where the hell is Coventry ?
Was he that bad at converting ?

Couldn't find any stats on how many behinds Coventry kicked, otherwise I would have included him.

Today's forwards don't have the luxury of taking 50% of their set shots from directly in front, 15 metres to 30 metres from goal. They are given no space inside fifty and they're forced to lead out wide to the boundary line. Forwards take way more set shots from out wide, or from 50m than the forwards from the past.

Most of Franklin's behinds are kicked from hurried snaps at goal, so accuracy percentages aren't a measure of set shot accuracy
