Well Simon Feast was runner-up in the VFL best and fairest award last night. He got 16 votes compared to the winner Ezra Poyas on 19.

A remarkable achievement given Feast played 5 senior games and was laso missing through injury a couple of times as well. This also folloows on from 2000 where Feast won the B&F Reserves player at the Swans. As well Feast is the 1998 Magarey Medalist for best player in the SANFL.

... and here in lies the dilemma with Simon Feast.

He is good enough to be the Magarey medalist, he is good enough to be a stand out qulaity player in the VFL, he is good enough to be the best of the 'Twos' at the Swans.

BUT - he is just short of being a good player at AFL Seniors level.

He is a useful enough 'fill in' big man in a team that lacks quality talls and his performance sin the seniors have been adequate rather than exciting ...

But the point is, he is totally outstanding at VFL Level but not quite there at AFL level, so he seems to be stuck in a kind of footballing limbo, too good for the VFL, not good enough for the AFL....

What do you think of Feast ? - I believe he will be back with the Swans next season, we are too short of tall players to really afford to let him go.

However, Feasty will only ever be a back up ruckman in the Swans, spending 75% of his time in the VFL.

If Feast fancies he will get more Seniors game time with another club, then he should come clean with the Swans now and take his chances in the draft accordingly (good luck to him as well !)

As far as the club is concerned, he might be a bit of a gumby b7ut he is a required gumby.

cheers

Fair points BSA.

I think it depends on what happens in the trading period. If they get a decent offer for Feast from somewhere else, they'll probably take it.

If Stafford gets traded, they'll probably keep him, as they couldn't afford to ne without another tall.

if they don't do a deal for Stafford, I think Feast will probably go.

yes he is an interesting character isn't he ?
i find it difficult to come to terms with how there is such a performance gap between the VFL performances and the AFL performances
i agree that he should be held onto as a back up ruckman as unfortunate as it sounds may be all he his good for. it will be interesting to see how he goes in the upcoming weeks, i dont think he will get delisted as the only omissions so far from the team are the retirements of lewis, luff and tingay and the axing of stevens and the swans have stated that there will be no more axings, only maybe a couple of potential trades. so it looks like feast is staying but he might be used in a trade but i find it hard to see.
does anyone know what is going on with steven doyle? from all reports he is a promising big man but has a bad run of injuries
i suppose with feast, the whole staff situation will play a big part in his future, but you would think staff probably will be traded so overall it looks like feast will stay
lets just hope he can turn his VFL performances into AFL performances and not underachieve like so
performances the swans as whole have churned out

yes certainly Feast's future seems to be entwined with the future of both Stafford and Doyle.

Doyle will be kept on another year to prove his fitness. I think he has given us at least glimpses of what he is capable of, but the guys fitness remains a real concern.

Any more season ending injuries and it could be bye bye Doyle.

As for Stafford, well bluddy heck - what do we do with the guy ?

Put him up for trade I say. If we really do want that tall marking forward that we keep going on about, then Stafford is reasonable currency.

Could be a possible three-way deal with Satfford eventually ending up at Essendon - they do need a ruckman after all ?

If Stafford goes then Feast will be more required than ever, but he just has to try and make that leap from the VFL to the AFL. He's a good player, as his string of personal awards in the second-tier leagues attest.

So he's got the goods, he just needs more time and effort on the track to put it all together.

At 26, Feast would be on probably his last chance at this level. If he doesn't break through this year, he probably never will

cheers

I tend to agree with you BSA about Feast, he just lacks something to make him a really effective player at AFL level.

A small note, I don't think Feast has won a Magarey Medal.

:)

simon feast

I think he would be a better player if given more game time .He seemed to be the player either taken from the ground or dropped just as he was establishing himself.
