Interesting you have griffen logue as the eagles selection. We have a great kpd stocks and currently have the issue of fitting mackenze and barrass into one team. Barrass just looks too good for wafl. Logue just seems like a kid that is ready to play afl already. What we need is inside mids. We might end up taking a kpd latet in the draft and put a few years of development into him like we did with barrass.

Just don't think there will be a KPD towards the end of the draft. Mackenzie 27 yrs old, Schofield 27 yrs old, McGovan 24 yrs old, Barrass 20 yr olds.

Barrass has played 7 games, I'm still not sold on him becoming the eventual No.1 defender. Still not sure he makes it at AFL level just yet, still very early days.

You can draft Logue for example, and he doesn't have to slot straight into the team. Mackenzie hasn't been able to get game time, Schofield is a good honest KPD. Just think you need another on your list & take the best available which for me is Logue. To take an inside mid at Pick 14 would be a huge reach for me, as I don't see Scharenberg, Graham, Bunker, Clarke, Atley, Drew being first round material.

I've never heard of Jay Simpkin or Sam Walker can you tell me more about them and why they would be good picks for the Lions?
Jy Simpkin has missed majority of this season with a broken leg. A small forward who was superb in the U18 champs last year. Broke his leg at school football earlier in the season so won't play again this year. Some say he would have been Top 10 if not injured. Still question whether he's a small forward or a player that can move into the midfield- But you'd be happy to nab him in the 2nd round.

Walker is one of the better rebounding defenders in the draft pool. Has a nice left boot and I think he'd be someone good for the Lions to have across half back. Best game was v Vic Metro earlier in the carnival with 21 disposals, 7 rebounds at 100% efficiency. Averaged 15 disp throughout the champs.

Do you really think we would pick someone with a broken leg we can't keep the players we have on the field the hard Gabba surface would be the worst place for him to be drafted he may never play again if comes to us can't see the Lions drafting injured players

Sam Skinner broke his leg and Lions drafted him last year. I see it as a non issue, players have broken their legs in junior footy and been fine at AFL level. Broken legs dont just end your careers- especially for an 17-18 yr old.

As Bishop said we actually have a track record of picking guys who are injured in their draft year. Skinner, NRobbo and McGrath all fit that bill I think

Barrass has been very consistent this year. His developing his lockdown side of his game but its his aerial game thats is his strength. Pretty much any ball that has come near him he has spoiled or marked. His a gov clone. But moving on our depth is healthy. We might as well go for battle as our kpf stock at wafl isnt as strong and jk is 30 next season
Or ben ainsworth as lecras career is on its way down.

Really awesome phantom draft man! I have a few questions about some decisions you've made though.

What made you choose Tim English for Fremantle? I think he's viable at that pick and Fremantle would be definitely interested in taking him, although Sam P-S in your phantom draft would be available as well.

Griffin Logue was a bit higher than I'd thought he would be, although to be fair, I think the defenders due to form are on a pretty even playing field for this draft(excluding Rotham and Macreadie).

I think its also fair to say with the position you put Ainsworth at, that he actually could drop that deep in the draft. This due to the names you've listed ahead of him.

Was very pleased to see Luke Bunker rated as well, I was really impressed by his form in the championships, do you think he could go higher than he is? or do you think he's set to stay at that low 20's mark?

Overall man I really like your Phantom draft, keep it up! :)

Think Freo need a ruckman to develop & English has been all but promising this year.

I think Bunker could go higher than Graham & Clarke two other inside mids- his flaws aren't as huge as those two so reckon he's probably around the 20-40 mark.

WCE wont be drafting kpd this draft very sure of that.
Will be delisting a lot of players this year will have 5 picks in main draft
and 3 rookie picks this year.
Nearly all delisted types will be mids/half forwards.
Our first will be a Mid/half forward type.
I suspect we will stretch a pick on SPP this year being a East Perth boy under the alignment, WCE see a lot of him.
There is good rookie options in the wafl for us if we need kpd.
Very hard to see where wce finish though this year

Word I've got out of the Bunker camp is that despite an impressive championships, the feeling they're getting is that he's only a 50/50 chance to get drafted at this stage. Clubs quite concerned about his lack of speed. Numbers back that up too - ranked in the bottom 17% of the whole league at pre-season testing.

I personally think he's still good enough to end up in the 35-50 range though.

Thanks Bishop, enjoying reading your rankings and phantom draft. I disagree on a few specific placements, as is human nature, but overall think that you have a pretty reasonable placement and justification for each. I'm out of my comfort zone in regards knowledge of likely club preference, but the WA selections do seem a bit unusual. Freo's pick at #3 will be interesting - you've rated their need for a developing ruck higher than a KPF or an inside mid (so ignored local star mid SPS or NSW Todd Marshall). Certainly I can't say I've got a better view, but just not sure this will play out. Then the WCE selections - I'd agree with RE about a KPD selection in the first round. And in the second round, you've selected Shai Bolton over SPP even though your power rankings had SPP higher (& FWIW he's one I think you have rated much lower than I think is desrved) - again I'd agree with RE that he might be a chance for WCE's first.

Just on GWS, interesting that you have a live selection in the teens. Suspect it won't play out for real that way, but as you have it I would personally prefer Griffin Logue to Josh Rotham at that selection, I know that defies your power rankings but just thought that Logue had a great championships and shows a bit more 1-on-1 defence that GWS could use in the long run. Interested in your thoughts on picking between those two for GWS's defensive structure, assuming we lose Marchbank at end of year and also select Macreadie (as per your phantom draft).

I do agree with your point here- I don't think they have it come November, but that's the way it falls if the blokes go where I've got them in that Phantom :thumbsu: A few months ago I thought they were in a stack of trouble, but Setterfield/Macreadie have struggled a bit in the recent period (Not to mention losing Marshall as an academy selection).

I did consider Logue over Rotham- but really like Rotham could almost hit top 10 in my view, so the 'power rankings' bias if you want to call it that took over :D

Agree with WCE, as you said that's human nature- not everyone views everything the same, not sure how the WA clubs will view their WA talent compared with the Victorians and whether that has a huge defining point on who they take.

Bishop, Ezekiel Frank. I was a big fan last year, do you think Essendon taking a punt on him at 55/56 or 73/74 would be a bad decision?

Yes. Pretty confident he'll go undrafted.

Did some nice things last year- but has gone off the face of the earth this year. He quit the Rebels and went back up to NT from what I've been told and hasn't done very well in the NEAFL.

So for me, I think he's overlooked. But regardless, he isn't worth a pick in the national draft.

Yep, plus Close, Golby, and maybe a couple more.

History has shown you can get bargains if you pick the right ones.

SPP being tested in reserves got plenty 20 touches today plus a goal in the run from 55- 60.

SPS played really well in earlier colts game @ 36 touches

Combine invites out soon made public next week, will give some guide

Expect Q Narkle might get a run , Waterman ???, Strnadia??,

Waterman played well for Claremont but not sure where he hits in an AFL list

Bishop

Thoughts on a couple of young Vic defenders ?

Juhdan DUNDON & Taylin DUMAN

I have not seen a lot but both seem reasonable kicks.

Haven't seen Dundon play as he didn't play in the opening game for Western when i saw them. I know some thought he could've made the Vic Metro squad and I still reckon he could be a rookie. Believe he is out for the season with a leg issue.

Duman is one I like, not sure where he fits in. Have seen him play in multiple positions at both ends of the ground, but I'm not sure where he best fits in. another rookie for me, does use the ball well but a lot of the kicks I've noticed from him in the back half of the ground go sideways not forward as such.

Been told combine invites will be announced this week, reckon will be a few surprises. Clubs might keep a few under wraps. I still reckon you can't read a lot into the combine invite list, players get nominated for it but never get drafted...

And just because some don't get invited to the state combine, doesn't mean they won't be a high pick!

Thanks for that B.. I think of both these guys a bit like a kid Geelong picked up last year as a Rookie.. Parsons. Not so much in style..but just that they seem better than perhaps where they will go in the draft , they are players on the "Downlow"... perhaps the A+ standard is a bit down this year but the A perhaps have pushed the B's out to Rookie picks..seem like good value.
