Don't like the way they worded it for Walshy.

For pitto, Fog and Hewitt they said they will be integrated back into skills in Jan.

Was way more vague with Walsh. "Won't partake in skills this side of christmas".

Such an important player for us. Hope he can get himself right soon

Not liking Hewett either. 'Aim' to get back for skills 'in January'.

For Pitto they uses the word 'will".

Hewett suffered his back injury months ago and is still a month away from even doing skill sessions...we know how fickle back injuries can be. He had a back issue a few years ago at Sydney.

A shame we have no midfield talent outside of Hewett and Walsh….

Nah all jokes aside I think they will be okay.

It’s about how you are at the end of the year not the start. In my view it’s the fittest we have been in a long time. I’m more on positives than negatives

Charlie Cripps Harry weiters Saad Doc list goes on, all crucial players doing everything. We will be okay

Top 6 locked and top 4 chance

Also, Williams Martin mcgovern all doing full training, when was the last time we could say that at start of December pre season

*UPDATE ON WALSH - 23RD DECEMBER 😢

THE CARLTON Football Club can confirm that midfielder Sam Walsh last night underwent surgery to have a micro-discectomy procedure in his back.
This surgery involves the removal of a bulging disc portion to relieve pressure on a nerve, which will see Walsh ruled out for the start of the 2023 AFL season.

Over a number of months, the Club had worked closely with specialists to explore every possible conservative measure of treatment.
However, further specialist consultation confirmed surgery was now the best course of action to ensure Walsh made a full recovery.

It's a big ambiguous but I think with backs particularly overloading them can easily cause setbacks so it's hard for them to know for sure.

If they said he will be training by December then in the first session or two it flairs up and they say actually he'll be out a bit longer everyone would be infuriated that we rushed him back and that our training staff are useless.

A fairly cryptic injury update but the positive is it seems Durdin and Kennedy are doing almost everything already (maybe not contact), which is especially pleasing in Kennedy’s case as the lisfranc injury can be a tricky one to get over.

I’m taking the glass half full approach on the guys with back injuries and Pitto (i.e. it’s more a case of us being conservative), but in reality that’s probably more of a guess than anything based on how this report is worded. I think questions will be raised if these guys aren’t back into full training by the start of February.

The update is typically s**t / full of spin and it’s time they knocked it off.

I'm feeling positive too. Basically saying that we have four players on modified programs. Everyone else doing basically everything. That's pretty good place to be at this stage.

Hoping the best for Walsh. I remember reading/hearing Judd speak about how he had to learn in the middle years of his career how to train hard and sustainably, rather than just hard. This was a result of his first big injury setbacks. From everything that's reported about Walsh's approach to the game, it wouldn't surprise me that he would similarly come out of this as a more rounded athlete

Sounds like code for “stress fracture”, I sincerely hope not.

Seems to be a fluid situation to me so he’ll be ready when his body tells him. If it’s midway through the season so be it and if it’s round 1 better for us then. I hope the club take this approach because these back injuries can be quite horrendous if managed poorly.

Pisses me off this update. Last couple of updates we've had from the club mentioned nothing about Walsh, though we all knew he had a back issue at the end of the year. And we were left wondering why Fogarty wasn't playing in the VFL finals. And what about Philp and Cuningham, how are they tracking?
