His writing does open himself up hugely to this sort of stuff. His sentences and summaries are full of rhetorical flourishes that are blatantly unfair. Maybe that's why he was thinking of quitting when he came afoul of 18C. Its the inference that AD was happy to put his whole livelyhood and his organization in jeapordy for a few points for labor in the opinion polls - if bolt really believes it was a huge beat up, and that AD believed that too. Its a quaint angle only the rabid will swallow.

No it was a real issue which had to be addressed, even if technicalities or incompetence meant that justice could not be prosecuted.
But in the end essendon and the sport in general has been cleaned up, you cant deny that.

Theres an assumption that essendon are innocent, which bolt makes no attempt to support.

so if you accept that premise, his whole article is balanced, reasonable and he takes the time to support his arguments

It's perhaps less to do with flourishes than it has to do with poor research leading to errors of fact and half truths and a loathing of anything or anybody who isn't from the extreme right.

This term has confused me for a long time, but I think I have figured it out. Basically, it means thoughts or actions in favour of an inferior race over a superior race, in the domain of thought where such superiority and inferiority exists.

Been a while since I have read an article of his straight through. I tend to disagree with him, but sometimes agree.

His main problem is that for all the use of facts and logic he tries to apply, he ruins it (usually early on) with one paragraph of unfounded, partisan, emotional shit-flinging that is aimed at nothing other than pushing the buttons of the converted.

It is a tired MO if nothing else.
