Given you are asking him to explain his responses to you, and of course that he disagrees with your virulent political perspective, that might be a justified accusation from his perspective, but it is a bit mean. But then you also seemingly think that Bolt's readers/viewers are mostly left-wing, which is kooky.

God Bless Yahweh for Comrade Morry (your forgetting about the Saturday Paper and Black Ink Books as well) - Michael Costa is the biggest w***er since Portnoy - the biggest insight your going to get from Costello is he is a very poor Paul Keating impersonator. His show is exactly what he complains about with the ABC - everyone in furious agreement about his super important and measured point of view. You cannot compare Morry's publishing empire to the Murdoch/Rheihart investment in Bolt. Is your point that media is expensive and often has to be paid for?

People pointing out that News Corp pays for Bolt's show seems to me to be about undermining the implication that by Bolt having a TV show he must be doing something right.

News Corp already pay a lot for Bolt's writing and by expanding it into a TV show, it is tantamount to Advertorial. If his popularity demanded a show then commercial networks would want to pay for it so they could sell ads to the multitudes of viewers. The Monthly and Quarterly Essay make their money through selling their publications, and if there's a shortfall so someone has to subsidise it to keep it afloat then I guess it is in the same boat as Bolt, but their supporters aren't suggesting such publications are hugely popular, are they?

I suppose its a tribute to the success of the Murdoch propaganda enterprise - the market penetration is so large they can shape opinions. The customers who buy the Saturday Paper (myself included) do so as a sort of solidarity exercise and David Marr and the rest of them tell the Latte Sippers what they want to hear. There are people out there that still think that the Australian is a bastion of quality journalism!

I sometimes wonder how much of a person like Bolt's public persona is reflected in his private persona- does he actually believe everything he writes or is he consciously being disingenuous for clicks? Born to rule types like him and big Tone just seem like parodies of themselves at this point

Ok I just read through all 8 pages and 198 posts in this thread.

There were 2 posts were I would say someone reasonably argued against something Bolt has said by picking something specific. Zero posts where Bolt is quoted and his position critiqued. Roughly 50-100 posts simply calling him names or posting pictures of something which I couldnt see, so I guess maybe they were thoughtful analysis? I doubt it though, they were by this Rise Up character and contained one image per post.

Also noteworthy were the 20 posts or so of people saying they don't read his articles or watch his show. Which is quite a lot of people forming opinions based on things they haven't read or seen...

So basically, no. People have not posted anything he has written and explained why they disagree.

Surprised with what you have found or not found, as there were a number of examples, more recently his comments on Whitlam. I think that you are not looking too hard. You admit you sometimes agree with him. Enough said.
