Rudd will be spoken in the same breathe as Whitlam in 20 years.

Rudd had many flaws but he did think big.

No he wont. Rudd will be an ink blot on the pages of Australian history. He was a nut. He tried to govern as king, not as a democratic leader of the ALP. Remembering the times & what many economists said at the time, I think he went about the GEC with the right ideas, but the details seemed to elude him.
I think for a lot of reasons many of our later PMs & pollies will not be remembered in the best of terms.

A pox on both their houses. Federalism & party politics will be the ruin of us all, woe is us:cry:

Looks like I'm getting followed by Mark Latham and The Australian (The Age link is actually an article copied from The Australian). So for the Liberal Party lovers here who deriled me over my comments on Bolt, I'll raise you the Murdoch press and ask which media organisation has repeated you exact same complaint a week later.

No often I agree with Latham, but in this instance he is right.
Next generation won't even know who Bolt was but they will always know who the PMs of this country were irrespective of which party you follow.
Biggest trolls=Bolt, Jones, Henderson, Sheridan, Devine, Dean

Out of respect Bolt could have waited a day before going to print, but what of those Labor idiots who turned the national service to commemorate Gough into a political rally, the same ones who booed PM Tony Abbott and ex PM John Howard?

Yes, but that was a week after Goughs death. Bolt & the mob were nashing teeth & lashing out the same day Gough died.
Just face the fact that Bolt is not a nice person:rolleyes:. He is the one in the media who could have set the tone of decency & respect. You cant control some of the masses, but you can set a tone of respect. Bolt has none.

On the day of his funeral. Unavoidedly in your face, live on tv for the world to see.
So... Bolt coooould have been a bit more respectful on the day Gough died.
But it's not as bad as some people booing and disrespecting Howard and Abbott. Very much alive (I think?)

When's the last time you heard booing at a funeral (or even thunderous applause for that matter)?

Its disrespectful on every level, especially to the memory of the dead.

Its disrespectful on every level, including to the dead.
Booing people who fly in the face of the deceased?
Booing people who are attacking and breaking down what's considered some of the greatest part of the dead man's legacy?
Yeah... Why would that happen...

How often are funerals nationally broadcast?

surely a funeral or similar occasion is a time to show some restraint?

why invite people to a funeral if you are going to disrespect them?

and if you are just another "guest", surely you should have respect for other guests and the people who invited you and behave accordingly.

What? Who invited them?
Who booed?

If it was a family member of Gough that booed, what would your thoughts on that be?

Sure I'm using some hyperbole, but the general view is that Howard and Abbott are the antithesis of what Gough achieved and what he tried to achieve.

How much booing was there? Does anyone have a link?
Was anyone there who can say what it was actually like?

Tone got a roast from the True Believers outside and a smattering of applause when he came in to the the Town Hall, I don't get the big deal, Howard copped similar, it's not like people threw sandwiches at them.

The way Abbott tried to score political points when he insulted Gough Whitlam in a speech about Whitlam's wife death last year . Abbott should not have turned up

Bolt was quite at that time of Abbott's speech as well

Was a funeral not a political rally. The thunderous applause was over the top and tacky too.

I watched it, the crowd outside booed on the way into town hall, but they also cheered with Gillard getting the loudest cheer, including a standing ovation from those inside (excluding the libs, of course).
Wasn't really a funeral IMO, more of a celebration of Gough's life.

No sure why any of the hypocrites turned up. Barely applauded even in non political comments, looked bored and wished they were elsewhere.

Thanks
A certain poster was making it sound like it was some kind of a political rally.

No it was a service to celebrate Gough Whitlam. No hearse, no coffin,no funeral.

Don't expect any better from Bolt. Ad Hominem commentary is his modus operandi in addition to poorly researched, uneducated commentary and propaganda for the nuffy right. Some of the stuff he circulates is quite dangerous.

No one put it better than Justice Mordi Bromberg. After hearing weeks of evidence in Eastock v Bolt he said in summing up, Bolt's report :

" .....contained errors of fact, distortions of the truth and inflammatory and provocative language"

About the time he was starting out on his reactionary campaign I sent him an email questioning the premise of his argument, the reliability of his sources and his conclusions regarding one of his 'out there' pieces. His response was a personal rant including calling me a 'black shirt' and suggesting things will change come the revolution. The man is unhinged.

Haha far out.

He is the Australian Glenn Beck. He didn't even create hi own bullshit person.. he had to steal that as well!

A good mate of mine rose up on his hind legs at his dad's funeral and instructed the minister conducting the service on the errors in his eulogy and advised him "We know you didn't know the man but please give us a break."....resumed his pew.

It was Gough's Memorial Service;an opportunity for the country to offer condolence and clap its collectives in admiration and appreciation;there will always be some not able.

Seeing as you think it was a 'funeral' maybe you should stop commenting on something you have no clue about?

It's hardly surprising that people booed. They came in the middle of a work day to remember the man for his legacy. The Liberals repeatedly try and have occasionally succeeded in undoing that legacy. That passion made them celebrate Gough and disrespect the Liberals. Two sides of the same coin.
In objecting to the media's praise of Whitlam, Bolt asked: "Will John Howard, a conservative who ruled four times longer and left the economy in wonderful shape, be given this massive and worshipful coverage?"
Yes, Bolt. He will. And these conservatives will still talk about the people criticising Howard, because to justify their selfishness they have to repeatedly say 'we're the victim'.
