Bomber says that Nathan Ablett is better than Gary Ablett jr

Which one of these isn't true?

1) He lied to Frank Costa about talking to Essendon

2) He was a hypocrite for criticising Ablett about his "disloyaty" even when he was making arrangements to jump to Essendon himself.

3) He is an adulterer because he ran out on his marriage to his wife to take up with his current wife, and had been seeing her prior to this.

Ok most holy one.

Boomer wouldn't have any ****** idea what he's on about. He's a cokehead dog campaigner that can't even operate a chainsaw.

Can't let this Bomber bash go without challenge.

The OP writer clearly hasn't read the book as Bomber did not say Nathan was better than Gaz. His words were - "He could have been every bit as good as Gary Junior"

It was in the context that Nathan came straight from Modewarre as "...utterly raw....and not even close to the full package"

He clearly liked Nate not only for his raw talent but as a person saying he was " a beautiful man, just sweet". And he felt he and the club didn't sufficiently protect him from the media which he was "paranoid" about. Even recounted the story of a day when Nate was playing for Modewarre. When he saw a car marked 'Geelong Advertiser' turn into the ground he walked off.

My main reason for buying the book was to view the charts he drew up for the players on the game day decision making process - to make it clearer for them. Charts Gerard Whateley said he saw in the lockers of every player at another club. In addition to reading some of Bomber's reproduced notes and get a feel for his general coaching philosophy.

I was one who thought he should go at the time the club was contemplating such a move because I doubted his coaching capacity. I was so wide of the mark - pardon the pun.

Nathan was free to make his own choices. Belittling him and peers pressuring him to put footy ahead of everything else was stupid. Yea like being asked to burn an offering before a statue of caesar or be thrown to the public opinion lions.

Sorry that GCoast dropped him for what seemed to me to be political reasons.

Nathan was a great player. He needed plenty of space. Mooney didn't have half his natural ability.

So that exonorates him from criticism, does it?

Okay, everyone, Baby Duck says that we can never say anything bad about Bomber Thompson, and ignore all his faults, because he coached us to two flags.

Does that mean, if we win the flag in three weeks, that all criticism of Chris Scott stops, because he would be a two-time premiership coach as well?
Yes.

Do you even support the Cats?

Dude you need to move on.You're livin' in the past man.

Obviously Ablett Jnr is the better player we'll never know if Nathan sooky la la Ablett would have been. Can confidently assume had he stayed he would have been atleast a 500-600 goal player. Didn't he join the Suns for a year

Nathan & Gazza had their dad's brilliance in them, but also his flaky side too. Early in Gazza jnr's career, he'd not turn up for training, and never put any serious effort at training when he was there, and decide he wasn't playing due to some minor injury when he could have (Gary Snr did all these things). It was not until the leading teams sessions post 2006 season he finally got the hint and started to reallise what he had to do to become the player he is today. Nathan's flaky side manifested differently, but his Ablett genes did their work. I think Nathan could've been a great of the game, just as his brother, but while he had incredible natural ability, he never had the mental resilience to achieve it. He isn't the first footballer to be like that, and won't be the last.

He's not alone in at least ranking him highly. Cam Mooney refers to him as the biggest waste of AFL-level talent he's seen.

To which I completely agree. He's certainly the biggest waste of talent I've ever seen at Geelong. Most skilled player below the knees for a key forward I can remember, and the best kick on his opposite foot for a guy that size I have ever seen.

I think he's quite ok with not making the grade, though. If his last name was anything else, he'd be a superstar.

This has gained my interest. Are they worth the price of admission?

I heard that Gold Coast ONLY signed Nathan Ablett, as an extra reason to get Gary Ablett to sign with the Gold Coast.

Once the Suns had Gazza, they didn't need Nathan any more.
