Perhaps by not making a 13 year old girl out to be the devil in public. He could have handled in any number of ways but what he did was set that kid up for public ridicule and the ramifications of that……ironically the same thing that he thinks he is trying to stamp out.

He made a phone call to her in the following days and apologises for what happened but also let her know and understand why he was upset

I don't know nor care why he gets booed. As a white man, I like many other academics believe that his position on racial issues is non-conciliatory. We all know the history, and know that many wrongs have been committed and are still going on, but his words and actions off the footy field add to the lingering malcontent, rather than looking toward a more harmonious future. But that's got nothing to do with footy. And it's all about "me" with him.

So, let's take that a step further then.

1) Goodes publicly outs girl for racist comments. Does this "educate" the girl? Probably not so Goodes has not achieved his goal.
2) Girl, who is now known to everybody is subject to verbal abuse, bullying and potentially worse.
3) Girl then possibly resorts to self-harm in the face of bullying.

And you are suggesting that Goodes can absolve himself of any responsibility should something happen to this kid?

Give me a freaking break.
Goodes followed it up the next day. Him and the girl had a chat and explained to the girl why it had offended him. So yep, chances are she did learn something. And probably some others did too.
He went on national tv to explain and was quite supportive of the girl.
The rest you are just making up.
The indigenous have had two hundred years of 'abuse and bullying and worse.' And people saying things like that perpetuates those attitudes.

If you say so.

If you genuinely think that that girl didn't cop some afters at school after being shamed publicly then you're a fool.

And Goodes apologising the next day for outing her is both too late and evidence that he has some idea of what she might have been facing.

It is far too late then. The damage had been done. The girl was smeared all over the media.

mate! The girl is going through puberty, pimples, weight gain the works.
No one will even recognize her in 5 years time when she's under 50kg's and out clubbing instead of watching the Colliwobbles on a Saturday night.

because he kicked several goals and threatened to win Sydney the game. Home ground advantage.

I didn't really notice it to be honest, was too busy screaming at Shoey.

But it isn't about 5 years time though, is it?

Who knows what she had to face at school (and in public) immediately afterwards.
