Review Bulldogs belt Crows 85 - 40

Outside of the horrendous goal kicking, thought it was our best game for the year and showed we r a genuine flag threat. Very even team performance who made a very good Crows team look very average. Super impressed.
Definitely the best we've played all year (goal kicking aside). First time this season post-game that I've thought we actually played well tbh.

Got to laugh at the Crows board - all the criticisms of Ballarat as a location... and they live in Adelaide! And whingeing about how much they have to travel in a single season! Fcuk off - we played all over the country even before COVID. Year after year.

Hope every one of them had a truly sh1t day, and sh1t drive home.
Back to your boghole, you p1ssants.

Excellent news. You can't change what you don't acknowledge and blaming the location rather than the performance means they will continue to accept suburban footy level performances (no disrespect to local footy levels - they aren't paid 6 figure salaries to play).

Bro there’s never been a 14 week hamstring in the history of the world - he will be 6-8, which sucks - but he’ll be back when it matters.

Ok mate there's been many tendon ruptures but you know best. Hopefully JJ is not severe. Even a 6-8 week injury leaves not much preparation time.

Docs are saying he might never walk again
I've seen many severe hamstring injuries. All of the bad ones are high on leg near arse. I'm saying if it's a significant tendon injury he will struggle to get back.
Looked to me more than a standard hamstring tear.
Hope I'm wrong

i wanted to see the player ratings before i commented,

and they backed up what i saw, Bont's worst game in a long time, barely had an effective possession, worked hard and applied pressure but his decision making and disposal were well off. hope it was just some soreness that had him handball happy.

Had a bit of a knee issue after being run down from behind

Watched the game live in Ballarat. Decent experience. A bit hard standing on the hill for 4 quarters but it felt like a local footy game which is cool.

On face value I thought Bailey Smith, Duryeah and Liam Jones were fantastic. But I was behind the goals so that’s probably why.

Arthur Jones had the unluckiest game I’ve ever seen haha

I thought the same. Let’s hope he can be back to his best at the pointy end of the season.

The upside of that is that we had a comprehensive win without needing greatness from the Bont to drag us across the line, or even set The tone on the day. A four quarter performance full of intensity and buy in from everyone.

Good signs.

By far our best performance for the year. Really impressive to see us in the game for the whole 4 quarters and even when we slowed up a little we were able to at least break even with the Crows, not allowing them to get any sort of run on.

Been mentioned in here and during the game, but our pressure in the contest away from stoppages was great. Didn’t allow the Crows any sort of easy out. Our positioning around contests was spot on, always had an outlet handball or short 45 kick.

An even 4 quarter, 22 player effort. Very pleasing. Confidence will be high going in to next week. The lid might be off if we can beat the cats.

Edit: GC next week. Lid off might have to wait for another week.

JJ a big out. I wonder how they navigate his absence. Already probably too tall down back, surely they look for a replacement for his exact role. Been great all year having The 3 Amigos driving from the half back in he, Dale and Richards. Possibly the best rebounding trio in the comp at the moment.

Crozier is the obvious move.

I hope they're a little more adventurous and look forward and use this as an opportunity to give Cleary an extended run down back.

Im sure an official club medical report will clarify the injury, its severity and likely recovery period. No point people going over the top without the report on hand

Loving our pressure in the last 2 months. Bazlenka at the top of the pressure points is the cherry on top. I always question his effort defensively when I'm watching him live, but not this game.
I think there are a few things at play here.

For starters, I think this game nicely shows what we all already knew: Baz just isn't really a wing. That's OK, it's not a criticism. The position takes away the many exceptional strengths of his game and exacerbates his weaknesses. I would hazard a guess that his GPS numbers are a lot higher in his old role than his current one, and it shows. I think a lot of his meandering moments that look lazy defensively are that he is genuinely spent. His contest pressure game is quite good, but where he struggles is when he needs to chase players in space. That's much more of a problem as an outside than an inside mid.

The part of Baz's defensive game that is a problem, though, is his accountability. He hunts the ball, which is great, but he has little-to-no awareness of where his direct opponent is. Laird racked up the touches just as much as Baz did. Of course, Smith had way more impact on the game. But if Laird was a more damaging player, we very much might have been the team to make the switch as opposed to Crom.

Bailey Smith is actually a remarkably similar player to a young Treloar. Adz has had issues with teams wanting to take him out of the centre bounce because of his inability to keep his man off the ball, and I suspect (in addition to necessity) this is why we have tried to put Baz at half-forward/wing for the time being. Treloar has only really marginally improved this aspect of his game over time. I'm hopeful that Smith has more improvement in him.

We know where Baz is best played, but he has some work ahead of him to prove that we can play him there against a good side. I would still feel pretty terrified if I saw him in the centre bounce against Oliver, Petracca, and Brayshaw.

Prepare to be petrified Dan. I think it's a matter of when not if.

And I believe it will be this season/year, and for us to succeed, has to succeed, defensively and offensively. There's a lot riding on him becoming proficient in the dual requirements of the role in the time available between now and September.

Interesting. How do stoppages work these days? I dont think mids always have a direct opponent? OR maybe thats something we have changed up recently? I feel like we play more 1:1 through the middle of the ground and in transition this year. But cant really say for sure.
