I think they still can without him, we did without Nic Nat, Gaff and Shep, 97-98 Crows did it without Modra, but will need the likes of Rachele to step up when he comes back.

I also wonder if they are a year too early. Fox Footy did point out they struggle to transition between the arcs, which I've noticed. And they can't allow such a high inside 50 differential again. That does need to be rectified.

Their midfield is very good but alike GWS, they are similar types.
Rankine is able to move in and out and provide sheer creativity that few others can replicate.
This will become a genuine factor when the pace slows down in September.

Assign a heavy tag to Dawson and hope he is somewhat ineffective and you can match them through that part of the ground.

Monumental loss (if suspended).

Yes it will be a big blow, no one can deny that, but many Crows supporters are saying it's ended their premiership chances, which I disagree with. Can understand their pessimism though due to club history. It's disappointing but I'd think long term, primed for a real tilt the next few years. History shows sides don't usually come from nowhere to win it.

Without Rankine they become much easier to defend and have fewer levers to pull around the ground to change matchups. Puts a lot of stress on every other line.

In the flip side, Adelaide have been very healthy this year, so they should be able to cover.

Welcome down Mr September.

Lachie Murphy is going to be best 22 for an Adelaide Crows final series.

Their board is going to lose their shit.

Rankine just cost the crows the flag.

Geelong to lose now

No, a long suspension just made it harder, however, it is no different to an injury.

The thing that determines how far Adelaide goes is our defensive unit and if they can keep teams to low scores/be hard to transition against. However, we aren't devoid of matchwinners at this point, though if Thilthorpe or Dawson going down would probably spell the end to those chances.

With Rankine, they definitely could, without him, they can't.

Midfield is not deep enough. Even if Rankine only plays 50% midfield time, that's still quality midfield minutes that need to be replaced, not to mention the small forward element that needs to be replaced on top of Rachelle already missing and almost certainly well short of fitness if he makes it back this season.

Adelaide won in 1997 without Modra
or Ricciuto.

Rankine is a fine player, but I don’t think the team is dependent on him.

True, but you had Darren Jarman, Andrew McLeod, Shaun Rehn and Malcolm Blight.

If you had a fit Rachelle still in the side, I'd say you were still set to challenge, but with both out, I don't think you have enough class in the front end to put the damage on the scoreboard.

Rachele would be a good start for plugging the gap, certainly.

It was geelongs to lose anyway. Crows cant get near geelong even with Rankine.

Eh, we're a different side since we played them. Whilst there were some similarities in profile, we flipped from being a offensive powerhouse, albeit leaky in defense to a defensive powerhouse who is solid offensively.
