Clearly won the ruck contest? Is that why Port had more clearances?

He can get the tap - but his follow-up work is almost non-existent. It's two weeks in a row the opposition midfields have had the ascendency despite Stanley's alleged ruck dominance.

To his credit he laid more than 1 tackle this week. Bravo.
Thats because of our midfield. Stanley is doing his part. Its the mids that are struggling in the centre. Not stanley.

My Personal opinion - blitz is a better leader and probably has a similar amount of fuel left in the tank.

Stewart is a great player and leads by example, but he can also be prone to a brain fart that costs the team. I just think he is better when he is doing his own thing.

I don’t want Stewart burdened with the captaincy, but I think blitz would be a natural at balancing the team/captaincy demands and doing his personal job.

Just my opinion, I am not in the inner circle of the club so to be honest I probably know jack shite.
Im sorry stewart is prone to brain farts in relation to blicavs? Seriously? Blicavs? :drunk: Mind blown.

blicavs might be in his last season next year. He will be 33.

stewarts currently the best defender in the game. A generational player whose attack on the ball is as elite as it gets.

I seriously doubt that. His athleticism is such that I'd be surprised if he doesn't play until 35. We have a few who will probably finish up next year (Duncan, Rohan, Stanley, and maybe Dangerfield and Hawkins) but I'd rank Blicavs as much less likely to retire than that group.

Twice. But its hardly a regular thing with stanley. for a ruck his disposal is usually pretty good. just had one of those nights with his disposal.

33% disposal efficiency last night. He turned the ball over twice as often as he hit a target. Those two huge clangers were just the most ridiculous of them. I agree that his ruckwork was much improved over the last few weeks though.

Parfitt played well enough when he came on to get a game next week if we don't want to give Dempsey/Knevitt a call up.

What i would like to see is a mid come into the 22 for 2E which allows Shark to go back into defence for 2E. This has the benefit of allowing us to play Holmes as a winger who does a little bit of inside work which is his current best role.

70/30 outside/inside for Holmes would by my preference right now.

Think you mean he might be in his last season in 2025, unless he signs another contract extension

Plus, he's also contracted through to 2025

Hes just done a bad hammy and is turning 33 at the start of next season. The end can come very quickly for some with just one injury. You cant really guess which ones will go on to 35 and which ones wont.

Contacts have little to do with retirement. Its whether the player can play on or not. At his age you take it one year at a time.
Except in the case of Blicavs where both parties are taking it 2 years at a time

That's why I would take M Crouch in the off-season as a FA, given our lack of draft picks. It also looks like a good year to get some tall timber with our draft pick anyway. We will need to hit the draft pretty hard before that Tassie team comes in anyway.

Yeah thats not what disposal efficiency is. You bomb it long to a contest its not effective disposal efficiency but its also not a turnover.

you get its biology not contracts that determine this right? If hawkins does his knee at pre season training despite signing a 1 year contract he aint playing again for the cats even with his contract.

plus this is a talk about captainancy. Its not enough to just to be on the list with a contract. You have to be a leader whose position in the starting side is without question. Only the absolute stars of the game can do that at the age of 33. And even many of them shouldnt and give the captaincy up at that age to focus on getting their body right. Blicavs aint at that level. Have an injury plagued season at 33 and his position in the side latter next season could easily be in question. Even without an injury plagued season it could get that way if we recruit a younger ruckmam as might be the case. It would just be silly to give it to him at his age with a younger stewart whose playing style is exactly what you want in a leader not to mention he is arguably the best defender in the game.

Powell-Pepper's run of arsey goals helps that stat line for sure, a bit like Frederick's last week.

I know Geelong lost Blitz and Hawkins last week in-game, but it still rankles a bit how we hit the lead early in the last at home, yet concede the Freo game, whereas last night we conceded the first few scores in the last quarter but really gritted out a strong win against a finals contender. In some ways we're not toooooo far away if we just had a bit more midfield oomph, the younger ones like Bruhn and Holmes are just babies, Atkins is such a trier and hard nut, with a fit Guthrie and maybe Clarke and a 'mystery mid' in years to come we can still compete. If we had two more wins, namely GWS and Freo, we'd be a clear 5th and right in it. All we can do is put in, next week will be tough, as will the next two in all truth, the Dogs have a lot of midfield power which can be scary, and young forwards like Ugle-Hagan and Naughton to test us.

If we can make finals it would be a good effort from here.

"Efficiency: The total effective statistics divided by the total statistics for a said category."

"Effective Handball: A handball to a teammate that hits the intended target."

"Effective Kick: The sum of effective short kicks, effective long kicks and effective ground kicks."

"Effective Long Kick: A kick of more than 40 metres to a 50/50 contest or better for the team."

"Effective Short Kick: A kick of less than 40 metres that results in the intended target retaining possession. Does not include kicks that are spoiled by the opposition"

So, with a disposal efficiency or 33% even his long kicks (+40m) were ineffective.

Yes we need another 1-2 mids. Stengle should be in the gun.
This is an interesting one.…I have been too scared to even think it. Mainly because he can do things that no other person on our list can. Having a player who can get a goal out of nothing is huge. i would still on balance find it hard to see him ommitted. But he is well down on 2022 and his season averages down on Career ones.

We have given Close a hard time but Stengle has been somewhat excused? Yet Close is above career averages this year….and whilst similar stats to Stengle Has been a better link player for us?

I don’t know whether they lose patience with him or keep waiting for that breakout game leading into finals. I assume the later

I disagree with this. I think he's got all the attributes to be an excellent burst player through the middle and has done ok - not brilliantly - there.

Besides, the term "wingman" is a little... old-fashioned. Players generally don't stick to a wing any more.
Yeah, I get the wing thing but I suppose we can call it a ‘starting’ position.
Still don’t really like him in the hustle and bustle. His decision making is not brilliant under pressure ATM

It's no surprise the entire fwd line have been down in form whilst our midfield gets smashed every week. It wasn't too long ago Stengle found some form when the delivery from the mids were good. Cameron and Hawkins have been equally down on last year's output and haven't played any better than Stengle recently.

I thought Stengle was one of our cleaner players when gathering the ball last night. Everyone else seem to shit themselves.

The captain should not be coming out and saying he’s struggling to get up for games mentally.
Totally agree with you

Maybe Patrick should look at his Internet Bank Acct - and see that beautiful 50k credit - with the Payer - Geel F C ( assuming he gets $1 mil a year - so 50k a game ) - i think he has got a hide saying that

I think Dangerfield when he talks - is a bit like C Scott - you just dont listen to it - because you dont know if they mean what they are saying at times - just talk for the sake of talking

We must have been watching a different game. I thought that Stengle fumbled more often than not, looked completely bereft of confidence and had a really poor work rate.

Parfit looked keen when he came on? Worth a start against the Pies?

Ive never rated Parfitt- however it is horses for courses - and the barrel is pretty empty

Taylor Adams is not quick - also cant kick over a jam tin - why dont they give Parfitt a run with role opposed to T Adams - Blight use to say if youve got a player out of form - then give him a specific task - like a run with roll

I dont rate Adams at all - and one aspect of his play - he is worse than Blicavs when he played FB - in the aspect when he got the ball - as to what to do with it next

I reckon Parfitt could play allright on Adams
