Maybe next time we'll send Mullin straight to Higgins, rather then the mis-match of Henry on him 😎

Full article:

So in 243 minutes of game time, he's conceded 4 goals. That's honestly not bad for a player some fools were calling a 'liability' and saying 'will never make it', just last week.

The short-termism of BigFooty will never fail to amuse :)

Two weeks ago, apparently the SDK ruckman question was settled, and Mullin was a sub-VFL standard footballer.

FWIW, I don't think that it's that people change their minds so much as that each performance brings detractors/cheerleaders out of the woodwork.

I think people are starting to understand his importance to the team, but still greatly under appreciated in some quarters.
If we can have a settled back 6/7, and in particular kpds (whether it be Henry, COS, SDK or Blicavs) he can do his thing as the 3rd tall / utility defender.
Has his limitations, but understand our systems and team defence as well anyone in the team.
Henry, cos and one of sdk or blicavs is already 3 talls. Kolo would be the 4th. And then there is stewart and z.guthrie who also compete in the air.

Your third sentence contradicts your first. Is it short termism or is it not?

I think when Kolo comes back theres a real strong chance we see Blicavs back into midfield rotations because its clearly the position we are weakest in on the field.

I for one also welcome the chance when Conway is fit to run a CBA of Conway, SDK, Blicavs and Knevitt. Just gives the competition something else to complain about.

I think Scott is angling for a complete paradigm shift in roles. 1x kpd/ruck, 1x kpf/ruck, 2x ruck/mf. :grinv1:

I mean I'd like to see it too. Just once, when we are 50 points up against Richmond. Would be a good experiment to see how far the Richmond mids can get with a clean break from stoppage

Be more like Conway to SDK loops it to Blicavs who then decides to kick off his left foot and turn it over.

Yeah i reckon I read the same somewhere. A midfielder that had a growth spurt
It explains why he is good around the ball and below the knees, its also why if we have an actual ruck come through we use him in the Blicavs role when Blicavs eventually retires.

Ah the "Blicavs role" - endurance runner, key defender, ruck, defensive midfielder, attacking midfielder, ruck-rover, forward, wing, third-man up (defunct), intercepter, tagger. What else? - basketballer, chess grandmaster maybe. Does he do steeplechasing? 😀

Blicavs can't play middle anymore outside of relief ruck. How does an aging mid who only gets 12-15 or mostly ordinary touches a game help fix our midfield problems?

And when Conway is back that pushes sdk back to defence making kolo the fifth in line tall.

Yeah, agreed. As much as I like Blicavs as a footballer, he's a jack of all trades, and you need masters in the middle.

You cannot have more than one defensive specialist midfielder who isn't great with the footy in the midfield, and we already have Atkins.

Maybe, or SDK may play up around the ball like Blicavs has done over the years

Not sure though how you rank Kolodjadhnij as the 5th in line tall, especially in terms of defensive option - when he's fit & ready to go, he'll be right back into the defensive unit and depending on balance, he could well return to previous roles where he plays shorter leaving a combination of Henry, Blicavs, O'Sullivan & SDK to play taller

It's also clear we don't mind playing a bit taller in defence

If we go back to 2015, we pretty regularly played with a combination of the following tall defensive options: Jared Rivers (retired 2015), Tom Lonergan (retired 2017), Harry Taylor (retired 2020), Lachie Henderson (retired 2021), then there's Blicavs who's found himself in defence during his career, Kolodjadhnij debuted in 2015, Jack in 2018 and SDK settled there in 2022

And people dont still understand how Billy Frampton taking Harris Andrews to Boundary 50 was so impactful for the Pies in 23 GF.

Seems to me that not letting the bloke take 8 Marks (6 Uncontested) and have 8 rebound 50s is pretty helpful in a loss by 9 points.

Frampton did such a good job Andrews was only the leading interceptor on the ground in that grand final.

Because we need some experience, reliability, solid tackling, marking and endurance through there.
It felt like the mix wasn't right and Danger was doing it all on his own last Saturday.
No doubt the club is trying to pump games into the likes of the younger players like Clark, Clohesy and Knevitt, and I don't blame them. But they are going to remain inconsistent for a while yet like pretty much all young players.
Blicavs was pivotal in the midfield in 2022 and I don't see why he couldn't also be pivotal there in 2025 too if, by the sounds of things, he's gotten over a few niggles that have hampered him in the past few years.

Laughing at people still discussing Neale... Dude is simply not good enough and will never be. Writing has been on the wall for years.
😂 At the ground, Cameron’s man left him every single time to block Neale jumping at the pack.

2 on 1 is a bit tough. If only Cameron stood up.

Can’t get over Father Time … Not to diminish his efforts prior to this year but he has definitely lost a gear.
