Winners are grinners, losers can do as they please. We will be even better with some of our guys back too, Lipinski, Ginnivan, Johnson, so bring i on later in the season.

Anyone with “chess” in their username is probably over 75 years of age so I’m glad my taxes go towards the Centrelink fortnightly payments you receive 👍

If you need help on how to use the internet and find friends, there are some helpful websites on line (just Google “old man needs to know how to use the internet and make friends”), but in the meantime P Off back to your magpies board 👋

I liked his last quarter.
Never stops does Tom.
I remember the scoreboard when he kicked his goal in the 3rd quarter showing 9 touches.

My first thought was to his comments last year about feeling like he’s on the fringe. I thought to myself that with our depth 9 touch nights could see him dropped.

Ended up over 20 touches. Unbelievable engine and work rate does Atkins. Never gives in, never stops trying.

A lot of similarities to rd 3 last year, but in reverse.
Cats down by 6 goals at 29min mark of 3rd qtr, Pies didn't goal again, Cats by 13 pts. 8 unanswered goals.
Cats up by 4 goals at 27min mark of 3rd qtr, Cats didn't goal again, Pies by 22 pts. 8 unanswered goals.

Pretty scary how feral the pies supporters were acting when Ollie kicked his first goal, I can't ever remember a time when a Geelong player was traded to another team & cats supporters were up in arms & super abusive towards the player that was traded.

Love the potential Ollie has & will bring to the team.
Agreed. And many of their players weren't much better towards him. It shows a lack of honour.

They came out with classic pies ‘scores to settle’ look about them. They were good last year but despite the closeness of the games, we were better than them and the best team of the year won the flag in 2022. Good contest last night and we looked like getting away from them a couple of times but had a bit of a weary premier look in the last.
They have recruited very well- a bit of grunt with Mitchell and addressed deficiencies in their forward line. Their overlapping along the wing is very effective, fun to watch, hard to counter. And their players have really bought in to it. And yet, it’s also demanding and there is a long way to go. Let’s see how it goes.
I gotta be honest, that 'score to settle' mentality is absolute rubbish when you can't actually do it when it counts. Brisbane did similar to us in 2021 after we knocked them out in the prelim the previous year.

And FWIW to any oppo reading....I felt the same way when we did it in round 1 of 2009. It just doesn't mean anything when you couldn't do it when it matters most.

Just looks like faux tough guy, overcompensation to me.

I noticed Close had put on 6 kilos gone from 71 to 77 according to comparison of AFL record last year to this year. May have taken some of his run or just a bad game. Time will tell.
Stood next to the other night, if he’s added 6 kilos I dunno where it is😁

Injuries and fitness probably the difference in the end from last nights game to round 3 last year, but it was eerily similar just in reverse as you said.

We came home super strong in that game last year, while last night we were running on the spot in the last term.

Whenever we play the pies lately it’s simply a case of who capitalises when on top, both of us seem to go on goal frenzy crazes.

CS on the surface:

"I have some opinions I'm going to keep to myself"

Narrator: he did not keep his opinions to himself
Nor should he. Footy fans in Melbourne treat the MCG like some sacred object, but it was obvious to all and sundry that it was in piss poor condition last night and deserves every bit of ridicule coming its way.

You don't remember Leigh Colbert? Man did he copped it for years by our fans!! That first game against North at Docklands I can remember how feral and angry most of our fans where me included.

I thought Ollie had a good game and handled the situation very well.

I can't remember much about it to be honest, I think the circumstances they left under were a alot different, Wasn't Colbert captain of the club at the time the trade happened ?.

I come in peace. Re: Ollie, just a bit of fun and it looked like he bought into it too. Take it as a compliment - we’re pissed he’s gone and you guys managed the situation beautifully to the betterment of your club. The Collingwood boys got around him at the end, plenty of smiles and hugs which was nice to see. Be happy you have a potentially very good player which you got for not much!

My greatest concern is the injuries. We don't want them overtaking the season.
There's nothing we can do about it if they do. Shit happens, and to succeed in this game, clubs need a lot of luck to go their way on top of their hard work. Part of that luck is the extent of injuries the side gets and their timing.

Got no issue with the Collingwood players......their targeting of him was to be expected.

But the behaviour of Pie fans over the fence was just embarrassing.

Has your fan base forgotten how many imports you have in the side?

No matter, we're glad to have Ollie, and as you say, he could be a good player in time.

All the best for 2023.

Bit of fun? The players were driving him into the ground every chance they got, and it wasn’t just Ollie the players were acting “tough”….just look at how pathetic cox was

Your feral supporters were way over the top to the point of looking like they wanted violence

it’s only “fun” because you won

Good point re Pies attitude - you don’t come off a straight sets exit without something to prove in Round 1 of the following season.

We looked short of a gallop in the end exascerpated by having to adjust to injuries and hampered players.
Liked Bruhn in the guys when he was there and very encouraged by Savs first up hit out ( something to work with there).
Scott summed up Ollie H very well - does so great things but areas to improve - we be a great pick up though.

Pies showed us they can adapt when denied the corridor, took a while and superior fitness helped , but they spread wide and used run and handball to cut through us - that will be noted by our Coaching staff as a key learning.

We showed our potency hasn’t deserted us when we’re on- let’s see what we get out of the next 5 weeks.
Yep- agree with all of this. Our best was excellent last night, and had them beaten when we got through. I also found sav encouraging- got to the right places and made contests.

Agree all points.

I don't think Parfitt will get a game once we get a few of the others back though. I just don't see what he offers tbh.

Like you say, the lack of influence by the core senior players was / is concerning. I'll be interested to see how they respond on Thursday night.
Parfitt had an absolute stinker but lets not go all goldfish with our memories. in his past 3 full games he has averaged 27 touches a game and it wasnt long ago he was best on ground in a game against the pies as our prime midfielder.

nonetheless that game was a concern. Has he had much of a preseason? Worst game ive seen him play in 4 years

I think he's dropped a few rungs in the pecking order.

Yep- but to be fair, the pies weren’t far off ’ doing it when it counts’, last year. The narrow loss to us and Swans knocked them out by a point? They are a good side and have recruited well- they will be a force if they can keep it up.
I found their bs with Ollie more childish I must say.

Nick Daicos, get 35 touches, best on field, known to struggle with a tag and no one near him the entire game.

This is poor coaching from Chris Scott.

Trash surface.

With the stadium upgrades finished this year, next season there is absolutely no reason for us to have to play 'home' games against teams like Pies and Tigers on their ground. Especially when the surfaces is not up to standard.

As said in the pre-game thread I wasn't surprised by the loss, Pies would be up and we are coming off a flag and won't come good for a few weeks. But injuries because of a below par surface are completely unacceptable. If this had happened at GMHBA and it was Pies players getting injured today the news cycle would be all about how Geelong should have to play all their games in Melbourne.

Thought there was enough to work with last night to not panic. Like Scotty said, it felt like a bit of round 1 rust. Add in the injuries in game and pre game and I think it was a decent performance.

Don’t want to be the celebration police but it did feel like a grand final win for the collingwood fans around me. Guess it hurts to lose the games when it matters!

Had next to no impact on the game with his 25m passes. De Goey was far more damaging, as he was in the QF.
