Yup. He did some useful things around the ball, a few neat possessions, a lot of meh handballs but he's not getting to contests. In broken play, ie we turn it over, he has no capability to go with his man... any man, really. It's hard to see where we can play him without him getting exploited for speed. Need a Petty, Smith or Frost to step up and become a consistent 6th defender.

There was a moment last night when the ball was up for grabs in a contest and lewis just half heartedly through an arm at the ball and knocked it to no one in particular, most other players would've ran into the ball hard and made it theirs. It's as if he is suddenly afraid to get injured, but this is not how I remember him at Hawthorn.

I liked him a lot at the Hawks and thought he'd make a big difference for us. Not as a half back, though. I wouldn't say he's just putting in time until he pulls the pin, but I doubt he's that invested in us either. Games like last night are what we supposedly brought him in for and as it's been mentioned elsewhere, we're 0-4 in the close games. Not seeing the influence I'd hoped for.

Oliver? TMac? Jetta? Wagner?

Lewis has some composure, but he's not immune from rushed disposals / mental brain farts. Been a fair few times this season you can see him throw out a panicked handball or rushed kick because he knows he doesn't have the pace to pickup that fraction of a second or evade an oncoming tackler so he can pick his pass.

Edit: Also, what's the go with someone becoming the "new whipping boy" as soon as someone mentions something negative about a particular person? You've had a bee in your bonnet over a few guys getting criticized. It's a discussion forum...
Just reckon he was pretty good last night.

If you want a whipping boy from last night then Petracca is your man. A minute and a half to go and rather than chipping the ball around he goes a ****ing torpedo. Not to mention two or three times trying to break tackles rather giving the ball off at first option. Or maybe ANB missing an easy handball which would have set up a scoring shot late in the game. Maybe even Omac for losing his feet everytime the ball went near Hawkins. Maybe JKH, if he was even on the field or Melksham who fumbled almost everytime the ball came near him

I'm more of the opinion criticizing someone doesn't make them a whipping boy. Plenty of players who could have done better last night, including all of the above, except maybe Melksham, who was his usual perfect self. Lewis got a bit of it but was just as culpable as everyone else for failing to stand up and put the skids on the Geelong charge.

Lewis got a heap of uncontested possesions and used the ball reasonably well.

This is however completely offset by going to ground in every single bloody contest he was involved in. He was so achingly slow around the ball that it was a complete liability.

In fairness to Jordan, let me also stick the boot into a few other players...

ANB - god damn Fumbles McGee this bloke.

Petracca - so much effort but he kept trying to do way too much and ran himself into trouble too often.

Melksham - great ball use as always but was barely sighted for most of the game. Also goes to ground in the contest almost has much as Lewis does.

Hogan - lead. Please learn to lead. Hawkins put on a masterclass of forward craft at the other end.

Ahh...that feels slightly better.

Couldn't agree more with all points.

I didn't mind the torp from Truck. We have shown all year that once the ball is in our forward 50, it's very hard for teams to get it out. We're playing on one of the most easily defended grounds in the country. He put the ball in a position we should be able to defend from.

Unfortunately, we've also shown that once the fast break from the forward 50 happens, we can't stop it. The latter occured. Not a stupid kick though. The alternative of chipping it sideways and backwards could just as easily resulted in overuse and a turnover in a more dangerous part of the ground. And we all know our skills aren't great.

It was the kick prior to the torp that was the mistake. I can't remember who it was but they had loose players either side of them but they decided to go to a contest instead. Milking the clock 101 guys.

That was Lewis. A couple of minutes on the clock, went long instead of using the spare players around him to switch the ball.

I was shocked when he did it. Of all the players on the field, he was the one who was supposed to have the maturity and leadership to know to change the tempo, run down the clock and deny Geelong the ball.

It was OMac

Don't generally see players get criticized for hitting the target... I agree we should've been wasting a bit more time, but hitting a target forwards is better than sideways. Petracca could've gone backwards.

Wait a minute

So when Trac was legitimately playing poorly you cried when I criticised him, but now he plays a very good game last night and you rip on him for the torp which just caused a throwin on our F50?

The result dosent or shouldn’t excuse the action. It’s an incredibly low % option that he took.

The right thing to do was allow Geelong to push numbers back (as they did), then pass the ball backwards through the hands of our better users.

I was at the game sitting behind that kick. Geelong had 12-14 players guarding any kick within 50m. It was a good move what he did, gained 60m and a throw in.

Disagree had no issues with him taking the game on, he needs to do it more often. He looked ready to explode, that second half was the most impact he had on game.

By his lowly standards of 2018 Trac is having a decent month. He’s threatening, but does make a lot of mistakes under pressure. Needs to be a bit smarter

Just watched the first half and everything JKH was involved in turned to shit. I was hoping he might show something at AFL level but he’s going to have to be a lot better than that. And Tyson is doing what Tyson does, give the ball to the opposition every other time he touches it.
Spargo and Frost have both been great as has Smith. We would have won a couple more games this year if Frost had of been brought into the side earlier.

Frost still has his moments, the dropped mark deep in geelongs forward 50 cost a goal. He has improved but needs to work on things to become a better footballer
