Agree fully. Lynch was dropped for playing poorly post-injury, yet Hendo survives. Double standards much?
I have a theory Sando is trying to make people overreacting Hendo because they want to trade him to gws for their second round draft pick, everybody knows gws want a rebounding defender

He just signed till the end of 2017 and isn't Heath Shaw a rebounding defender?

These "changes" threads are always fun ... they prove that you can't please all of the people all of the time.

The likes of Grigg and Lyons get another starting game - we lose Otten and Lynch to injury and replace them with a rested Pods and Shaw (who I think is a rough diamond waiting to be cut) - we avoid bringing back an under-done Thommo.

And I'm seeing a heap of "Why isn't Kerridge back?" and "Thommo should be playing" !!!!

Cmon guys - we only have 22 spots and the team we are putting on the field on Saturday looks much more like the a team that can produce the type of footy we want to see now and next year and maybe the year after.

The sun is shining (at least it is here in Hobart), Trigg has cleared out, we have a bunch of young and exciting players in the team for saturday and a few more waiting in the wings, Roo is searching for admin and coaches that will improve our off-field performance ... things are looking more "up" than they have for a long while :)

we've brought in pod's. pretty sure that he's not only a contested marking forward, midfielder, loose defender or dedicated defender. I reckon we could put him on any of those 3 and they'd struggle to breath air, let alone get a kick.
Why are you so one eyed against Pods?

Surely you can't argue against him being a good player and a very good pick up this year? At times, due to injuries, our forward line would have looked terrible this year. We would have had to play Mckernen or Johnston . Massively disrespected and under appreciated.

Are you one of those guys that hate a player once he hits a certain age? Despite his age, he's still had a good year.

Seriously confused. I could swear that the board was pretty unanimous that Sando saying "good teams don't tag" was a seriously stupid thing to say.

Then this year our go to tagger, who has been doing a much more consistent job nullifying than VB last, is omitted through injury.

Then on the cusp of his return there exists an argument that he shouldn't return to the side based on the output he had as a tagger earlier.

Are we that good a team that we shouldn't tag? Or is it better to sacrifice Dougie's output rather than have him play outside mid?
Or we need more natural ball winners around the contest with Danger, Lyons, Crouch, Grigg with less staying just outside the contest?

Seriously can't understand leaving out a player who has been tagging on the basis of output.

Agree. Pods is not THE answer ... but he has been very good for us. He has allowed Tex to ease himself back to where he should be (the one-out forward) and will in future play most of his minutes working up the ground as Tex grows in confidence and stature.

Does anyone think that Pods won't be a fantastic forward coach after he is done with playing? He'll be a perfect person to continue teaching those lessons he has been delivering on field ... and to build one of the most potent forward lines in the AFL.

I rate him, and his effort, his attitude, and what he has given to our club. He is a player we should be proud of.

By reports he was fit for this week and trained strongly. That's what I went off.

Not sure about the Pods comments. Think you have the wrong person.

Massive difference between training and a game though. He just can't carry any sort of niggle at his age

He'll be back next week

I think we all know kerridge will be back next week over thommo, we are playing north after all ;)

But you don't bring a player back for superstitious reasons like that. I am looking forward to his return but he has to prove his fitness and earn his spot. I like Kerridge but if we use those selection criteria our luck will run out.

Mean while it is nice to think North are his bunnies.

The other thing I find interesting is that as soon as it suits the argument, some of Vader's harshest critics are happy to fall in with his party line i.e. well the selectors have made the decision so it must be right.

Unless they believe he needs another week to regain full match fitness I think it's a glaring error, especially given we are playing a team who, statistically , have had the competition leading midfield in the last 6 weeks.

We already have one of the most potent forward lines..... even with a forward coach who was never a forward..... Its our mids and our defense that needs some small tweaks

Our firepower is going to be awesome for the next 3-4 years. Which is great news as Danger, Sauce, Sloane, Crouch, Talia all come into their prime

We're well primed. Can we make the most of it is the question?

If Kedge is selected next week, he's a monty to be most picked in the goal kicking game by those who are left! :p

But we have a real forward coach in Pods who has been teaching them.

Don't under estimate what he has brought to our forward group - he is one of the reasons they have improved - and far out weighs Bickley's influence IMO.

I don't think that Bickley is useless, in fact I'm sure he offers lots of skills and advice to the forward group that is valuable ... but I rate Pods more highly.

Except it is the selectors who have changed their minds in this case.

Lulz, Pods.

Should've gone with Kerridge or LJ.
I can understand you wanting Pods out for structural reasons when we had all 4 tall forwards in the team, but with Lynch MIA due to injury we'll only have 3 tall forwards this week. Surely this is what you've been asking for? JPod also has value as the "swingman" who can go back in defence, if we run into problems, given that Shaw is nowhere near as good as Otten.

Kerridge has been out for a while, having spent 5 weeks on the sidelines prior to his SANFL return last week. I guess they just want to give him a second run in the SANFL to boost his fitness base. I would be very surprised if he's not back in the seniors next week.

As for LJ.. surely you can't be that desperate? You know you've lost the argument when you're reduced to suggesting that LJ should be selected ahead of JPod.

Your point re Pods providing transition time for Walker is a good one, particularly considering the way we have delivered the ball into the forward area this season (something of a paradox I know).

Good discussion about Kegs, I think one of his issues is that he focussed too much on tagging and completely stopping the opposition without winning his own ball and every now and then it would land right there in front of him and he would have to do something about it.

Personally I think he would be well suited to rotate with danger through the HFF, Mid, Wing type style, he's a good size, can mark and can run all day (but isn't super quick) and when he has the ball in the forward 50 i trust him to kick a goal more times than not.

Think he has more upside than Laird, Martin and Wright.

Agreed, on all counts.

Last year he constantly got a lot of touches, even with limited game time. This year, his shut down jobs were excellent, but he was so focused on the stopping, that he didn't get enough of it himself (which is a shame, especially when his boot has become a real weapon).

Good size, runs all day, good mark, great leg - I would've preferred him over Pods and played in as a HFF/CHF type.

That aside, for mine, he's got more to offer than Wright, maybe Martin as well (different role) - should be a pretty solid fixture in our side next year, and I hope we see a few more games with him this year.

There is going to be a real crunch shortly, with Laird, Wright, VB, Hendo, Mackay, Thommo and Martin all having to be in danger of falling out of the side - or being forced out of it.

If it was me i would have gone the safe option and brought Benny Rutten back in. Would seem Sando has taken the risk and is looking more to the future. If thommo was fit then its a brave decision to not bring him back in and drop one of Lyons or Grigg. Cant complain about these selections. Good on him.

I don't consider Lynch to be a tall forward - I've been consistent with that.

I'd rather 2 KPFs, and then a mobile third tall - Lynch fits that brief perfectly; Pods, not so much.

Dosent change the premise of the argument
Yes it does.

You're saying posters are now backing selectors decisions because it suits them.

I'm saying their decisions have fundamentally changed in recent times, Thommo case in point.
