Grundy had a very limited 4th quarter didn't he? And I noticed he didn't contest some of the rucks late in the game. Saw even Roughy in somw rucks. Anything in it?

With team balance in mind there are a heaps of options:

1. Out: Adams (inj) IN: Wills (on ball)
2. Out: Adams (inj) IN: Aish (Aish to half back, Greenwood tagging)
3. Out: Adams (inj) IN: Wells (on ball - I disagree he's not fit enough but form?)
4. Out: Adams (inj) IN: Aish (to wing, Sidebottom on ball)
5. Out: Adams (inj) IN: Varcoe (forward, WHE to wing, Sidebottom on ball. Varcoe came out of VFL after one week last time. First out, first in?)
6. Out: Adams (inj) IN: Varcoe (forward, De Goey on ball. Robbing Peter to pay Paul? Interesring JDG had high TOG minutes and had spells in the middle from the 2nd quarter. His fitness is there imo. But he is so valueable up forward)
7. Out: Adams (inj) In: Wells (forward, WHE wing, Sidebottom on ball)

Adams is hard to replace, I thought his attack on the ball in the 1st really set us up last night, but we do have options. Irrespective of who comes in I expect that a combination of Beams, Sidebottom and De Goey will pick up a significant amount of the midfield slack in Adams absence. Beams was on managed minutes, De Goeys time in there can increase, and we have a lot of guys that can go to the wing to free up Sidebottom if need be.
OPtion 1 for me - surprise surprise

I don’t know why you’d bring in Varcoe after he has been dropped for poor form and hasn’t played a VFL game to try to discover some form.
The club literally done at after the west coast game.

You don’t drop Reid after that performance, he was great in the air and provided a better option than Cox has so far in 2019.

Leave Cox out for another week.

Be good to give Brown/DeGoey some more midfield minutes, and can bring in Crocker who is supposedly going ok in VFL.

Last weeks medical report had Sier as test, not too sure what the go is with the vfl this week, but if he plays and gets through, they need to find a way to get him in, otherwise risk losing him if hes starved of opportunities.
Next week isnt about percentage, its about putting in 4qtrs. Hopefully we can get this right soon.

Cant believe anyone thinks 3 talls will work, it will be a disaster and completely f.ck up the forward line.

Reid is a back up now. He kicked 1, not a bag, and got smashed in the ruck. If cox is fit he walks back in.

didnt WCE win a premiership 7 months ago playing Kennedy Darling and the 2nd ruckmen in the forward line?

Why couldnt Reid Mihocek and Cox work? Have Mihocek pushing up to the wing providing a target and Cox to do 10-20% of rucking around the ground.

We have a bye in the VFL this week. Sier won't play next week even if he's fit now.

Yep, it was such a disaster for us in 2010 and West Coast last year.

I know there's a couple of people thinking about it
and that would be the match committee so we might see it happening seeing that they have thrown around the idea

When people debate whether we can fit all of Cox, Mihocek and Reid in the one side you have to factor de Goey in also as he's basically a de facto key forward such is his ability and presence within f50.

For it to work de Goey seemingly would need to increase his midfield minutes and with Adams set to miss with injury an opportunity has presented if we wish to trial it.

So if we want to play the 3 talls:

Out:Adams(inj)
In:Cox

If we don't:

Out:Adams(inj)
In:Aish

They don't have to all be on the ground at once though. At the moment we start 5 talls. They all play about 85% game time. If we want to maintain our preferred structure, we actually need to have a tall on the bench to rotate on for resting talls. If you do the maths it works. At the moment one of our bench spots is effectively used to cover rotating talls, we use a small to do this covering and go in shorter when a tall is resting, but why not just use a tall to cover talls.

Without runners, it'll be bloody hard to make it work, and get the rotations right but worth giving a go. We lose the flexibility of going small if desired, but we gain the flexibility of going tall if desired.

It still wouldn’t work if we increased De Goey’s midfield minutes because De Goey’s movement to cover ground is exceptional.
We’d be far too tall, slow and we would lose serious fear factor.

A big no to play three talls in the same forward line.

As much as I would like Cox back, I feel another week off might do him the world of good. Reid was serviceable enough to warrant another game. But once Cox is fit, Reid goes out. There is no place for both of them. Cox is always going to be first choice given his height and more accurate set shot. He is a nightmare match up.

So with that said:

OUT: Adams
IN: Aish

Gotta agree with this. We looked awful with all of Cox, Reid and Mihocek playing in the JLT. The mix we have now is spot on, can’t really mess with that, even if Reid will be stiff to be dropped when Cox returns.

Whilst I'd also pick cox over Reid , it'd be more appropriate if Cox was stiff.

I should have clarified my position more clearly and stated that for it to have any chance of working de Goey would need to fill Adams role in the midfield.

People need to realise that with Cox, Mihocek and de Goey we have essentially been playing with 3 tall forwards this season already akin to the West Coast premiership structure and like our 2010/11 side featuring Cloke, Dawes and Brown.

Because of his ability to impact through the midfield we forget de Goey would make most if not all sides purely as a tall forward option.

We could potentially add a 4th tall in Reid and get away with it against lesser opposition like Carlton but I agree it's doubtful it'll be our standard setup moving forward.

P.S-If heaven forbid de Goey missed a week through injury I'd be happy playing Reid alongside Cox and Mihocek.

Why not just start a tall on the bench. If we want to maintain the structure of 2talls back, 2 talls forward and a ruck, we actually need one on the bench. 6 blokes, 5 positions, 85% on the ground each. It works.

I think Mihocek's versatility and mobility plays into that sort of thinking. I for 1 certainly wouldn't mind seeing it trialled for a few games.
