Maaaaate. Quit while you're behind. Pods has contributed heaps, is footy smart, has the 5th highest contested mark stat in the AFL this year, is great for team structure, has taken game saving defensive marks at crucial times, and has kicked clutch goals at very needy times - particularly from exotic angles.

Pods can't hardly get a touch up forward. He doesn't touch the ball unless its inside 50, leaving tex to do the work up the wings (out of position). The team is 10x better when tex is in forward 50 and lynch is doing the hard running. Waste of time playing an old man. Lynch is coming out of contract maaaaaate, vic clubs will be in his managements ear, and you think he will be happy if an old man is getting games?

Quit while your behind. We are a poor side, playing old guys is a complete waste of time

Smith doesn't go to anyone, nor should he. He's an attacker, it's their job to go to him.
It's difficult to know what to do. Persist with a catch us if you can mindset which hasn't gone too well for us so far, or actually man the hell up to nullify their playmakers. I'm so tired of every team matching up on us perfectly while we are seemingly masters at getting it wrong. It's time the team was chosen with less of the mindset that we will play our game - let the opposition adapt to us. It hasn't served us well at all this year. I'd like to see us get in first and plan against the playmakers more than we have this season. Smith is a player who can beat Polec one on one and also hurt them the other way.

Pod's experience and smart footy head is great for the young guys on the field. He's not a world beater but what he brings to the team with his quality as a player and his leadership is priceless. You have no idea.

You're talking about pods like he should be playing D grade old scholars.
  • He's fifth in the AFL for contested marks.
  • He's basically the only one bar Tex that can take a contested grab in our team
  • 2nd highest marks for us
  • 3rd best goal kicker
  • 4th in goal assists
  • 2nd marks inside 50
  • 2nd time on ground (age isn't hampering his fitness)
Fair enough if you think Lynch comes straight back in BUT to talk about Pods like he's a fat, crippled dinosaur is just lame.

The issue isn't that Pods is playing badly. He's been ok. Had a few really good games, a few really bad games and a few in the middle.

The issue is that we're 11th and if you're 11th you want to be choc full of players who are going to improve. Not players who are going to get worse.

But you need to teach them on field and need the occasional Grandfather to do so.

Completely overrated. Pods would not teach the players on field, that sort of stuff is just smoke to justify his selection.

We're no better placed than we were at this time last year, and that was without Pods, Betts and Tex

Our selections have been very predictable for the last 10 years.

1) Lynchy is ready to go and he must be selected. Who should we drop, Tex - nup, JJ - whoops, a big second half mens he has to stay, so it must be JPod - no way.....we will play 4 talls in the forward line on a cold wet day or make Lynchy the sub

2) Brad Crouch is alo ready to go and just quietly he has more class than three quarters of our team

The Ravens have this weekend off so leaving these 2 guys on the sidelines is crazy.

3) Matty Crouch - Simply too embarrassing to bring him back this week, it's another rest week for Bob

4) Charlie - We would never take the risk of playing a KID with a question mark over his fitness. On the other hand we love playing experienced guys with injuries so there is no doubt that Mackay and Danger will play.

5) Hendo - He has an injry cloud over his head but he is an older player now. I think he will be the emergency, the best of no worlds

So it's

In - B Crouch, Lynch

Out - Lyons (no chance of ripping it apart for the Ravens this week, Martin

Whilst we will be a little unbalanced and slow (Tex, JJ, JPod, Lynchy in attack and Truck, Otten, Talia in defence) we will be competitive for a half and then be blown apart.

Thats all well and good.

Pods doesn't have great engine, so he has to spend a lot of time inside 50. The result is that our forward structure is setup so tex has to work up the wings more often than not. We want tex closer to goal.

Lets assess your pods dot points:

  • Pods is averaging just over a goal a game for a KEY forward. Terrible return
  • Obviously he is going to be 2nd for marks inside 50, he is anchored inside forward 50. Thats like saying he has the most game time inside the forward 50m arc
  • All well and good is 4th for goal assists at the club. Last year lynch was number 1 for this, and was second in the league for score involvements, and second for retention for his kicks inside 50 (behind boomer harvey)
  • Lynch led our marks last year playing 16 games......Pods is 2nd having played every game so far
  • Pods is the third best goal kicker......hes the only key forward who has played every game. Even dangerfield and walker are catching him
  • He is also easy to run off, players work through his man
  • He has struggled in far too many games this year, only to bob up for a goal or two when we are winning
  • Your praising pods fitness?! not even going to bother, the guy can't move

Issue is, who else would you have brought in before now for Pods??

My only thought would have been to move Otten fwd. Quite liked him in that role last year.

But he has been one of our better contested marks............ which is saying something.
Not really. He's always been a strong contested mark. He's like 4th in the AFL.

And that right there fellow posters, is why our coach is a very poor coach

If he wasn't contributing, sure, waste of time, but the way he's been playing more so than just his experience warrants selection…or we could play young Graham or Mckernan instead perhaps. Did you take no notice of dayton's facts?

here they are again, sans his onfield guidance.

Hardly Pods or Betts fault. On average they have been better than the majority of our team.
So we've got the improvement that Pods and Betts have brought with their own game, plus the improvement from the leadership qualities

And if we add up all that improvement, we're in the same spot? It doesn't add up.

Pods can hardly get a touch up forward but doesn't touch the ball unless it's inside 50?

Surely you're trolling?

He can hardly get a touch playing as a forward, but his few touches only come inside 50. Leaving tex to do the work up the wings. When pods goes cold (most of the time), he has to go down back as a loose man.

English my friend, learn it

You're preaching to the converted but that's hardly the fault of any of these players. Debatable as to whether Pods is stopping a younger worthy player from getting a game, but all round and in the long run, he is without question better for us, in our team.

It adds up alright, you're just looking in the wrong places for the sums. Try the coaches' box, but you'll need a calculator.

If he stops lynch from getting a game this week, then he is already hurting our development

We should tell lynch, walker, jacobs, dangerfield, crouch brothers, that they haven't done the business this year, and can play SANFL next year

We should recruit brown, jolly out of retirement, spike mcveigh, adam and troy selwood, and let these players coach the rest of the players on the field, whilst staying outside the 8, and giving up any chance of future finals berth. These 30+ would add to truck, pods, reilly etc.

Yep, not worth continuing with you.
