I know, this is the second week Chappy has managed to just throw into the conversation that he has a special audience with Sando and seems to be overseeing his performance very closely.

Firstly, they obviously are worried about Sando's performance.

Secondly, why not just let someone decent oversee it, wtf does Chapman know?

OUT:
Rutten, Mackay, Martin, JPod
IN:
Cameron, Lynch, BCrouch, CEY

Anyone but Brown on Wingard. Gets lost in the contest every time. Laird is the man for me.
Otten and Westhoff Schulz and Talia

No matchup for Rutten and i want some mobility with Lynch ahead of JPod.

BCrouch plays as the Sub.

CEY's versatility (3rd tall/Mid) and speed could be important against this mob. Wouldve gone Hendo, but he couldnt get trough last week.

Wait a minute..Laird just got a bath in an aerial contest against a guy who's not known for his marking and you now want to stick him on Wingard? The guy who is up for mark of the year for his speech?

Another slow guy unfortunately. Can't play midfield.

Only way is if we pull a massive shock and drop Reilly to play Porps as the 7th defender playmaker…won't happen.

Put him in for Lyons.
Lyons has been played as a HFF anyway.

What happened to Hendo guys? Did he get an injury in the SANFL?

Sorry but i feel that is such a backwards move.

Lyons has positives and negatives…this is the PERFECT opportunity to see what he's made of. Sure M Crouch will end up better (better kick and better tackler) but let's not have another year of Lyons and not come to a conclusion.

Play Lyons in the middle for the next 3 games. Shape up or ship out.

Ill get shouted down for this, but anyone think Porps would be a good selection?

Been in great form, possibly earnt his spot and it seems conditions will suit.

How does he nromally go against the pear?

I have actually been thinking about this as a genuine possibility. And no, not because I love him (in fact I think his career is all but done), but he looked in pretty good knick on the weekend and he loves the wet weather. I think he would make a great sub

Yeah he got a knock on his quad and was iced after half time. Would be brave to put him in this week.

**Edit - hmmm second to the ball... I feel like I'm a real crow now!

Which is why they are so vital.
They turn a 50-50 into posession.
They are more valuable than a hard ball get, especially given how many goals are kicked off them.

I guess goals are an overrated stat because theres only 12-13 of them a game?

righto. so a contested possession, of which the avge is 138/team/game, is not turning a 50-50 into a possession. and how many goals are kicked from these marks, I'm going to suggest it would be a maximum of 2 per game and that's assuming all the contested marks are taken in the forward 50, which we most certainly know is not correct. in fact, there's probably more goals kicked from forward 50 stoppages, but you keep chasing the premium stats in contested marks. if we can pick up an extra 0.2 or 0.3 per game we could be leading the competition in this area.

the reality is that gaining possession in 50-50 contests is probably the most important stat in the game. contested marks is certainly part of getting your hands on the ball, but compared to general play it pales into insignificance. the fact that we're 2nd in that stat in the league shows that it's probably not as important as you think it is. i'll get on board when we're rolling with a carey or brown taking half a dozen a game all resulting in scoring shots.

in terms of a direct correlation with goals, marks inside 50 is a much more important stat.

Please no to the Porps suggestions. Our season is pretty much shot, and so is Porps career at AFL level. Why waste a game that will have a finals like atmosphere and level of intensity on a guy who is unlikely to be around next year? Perfect sink or swim opportunity for a young player.

Yep. Love the guy, but he should be done with us at the AFL level. He's an unrestricted FA at the end of the year, so he'll be free to continue his career elsewhere if he gets an opportunity, we should let him go if he does.

With Atkins, arguably you are never ready so why not chuck him in the deep end and see what happens. At worse, he doesn't make an impact but has an idea of the level he needs to get to and if he does stand up, we truly have a player on our hands
I hate this attitude to throwing away AFL games ........players SHOULD ALWAYS BE MADE TO EARN A GAME OF AFL FOOTY.

Yeah lets throw some players in a see whether they sink or swim ........talk about f....g a young players career

Only players that possibly will come in are Lynch and M.Crouch

Suggest B.Crouch and Cameron another game in SANFL ........but they would love the pace of Cameron for this game, so who knows

Grigg ....A LONG WAY OFF SELECTION!

Henderson ......another 2 SANFL games

You do realise they have the bye in SANFL this week?

So?

How does that change things?
You don't play Crouch and that's 2 weeks without footy and Lynch wouldn't bode well for his match day fitness as well. Just play them, surely can't do any worse than the spuds who are filling their spots.

The special audience is that they have a weekly commitment where they play a round of golf together

In Sando's time at the club him and Chappy have become quite close friends

Bailey still not a reason to influence AFL selection ....if they miss that's tough, particularly for Brad

I feel like we rarely agree on things, but I agree with this.

I'd love to win this game but odds are we won't. The silver lining is not making finals would surely be the final nail in the Admin coffin…particularly if this game is a thrashing.

As usual Port have their best 22 whilst we will be without (or risk an underdone) Brad Crouch, Ricky Henderson, David Mackay, Charlie Cameron + play Tom Lynch who has hardly seen AFL action all year.

That's a helluva lot of class and running power right there…not hard to see where we gonna get blown away.

Given the background factors of form/fitness/coaching/admin/mental strength in big games, Port would likely still beat us if we also had a best 22 out there (maybe the match result range to Crows of 10 win to 30 point loss) compared to this Sunday when I'd suggest the likely range for Crows will be a 40-80 point loss.

If this week becomes a Bloody Sunday for us, let's hope it represents our lowest ebb and it creates the impetus for accelerating change.

Interesting that only in the past couple weeks has Chapman felt compelled to tell everyone in the media how is he is going thru the post match review with Sando, and this week having a meeting with he, Noble and Sando to look at strategy for the Showdown.

If they're mates of course Sando could choose to chat about these things with him (being the Chairman and all) but it just seems like he's desperate to tell us all about it. Maybe it's just his way of trying to be supportive to Sando publicly and reinforce to the supporters that, despite the results, he is a good coach?

Agree partly with that although both will not get match fitness by not playing at all particularly Brad
