Ok. Honestly, whilst i would like to win the showdown, it's good time to start blooding some players, so with that i'm going for 4 changes.

Out: Mackay (injured), Martin, Pods, Rutten (omitted)
In: Atkins, Cameron/Grigg, Lynch, B.Crouch.

Grigg in if Cameron is still judged as injured.
Don't mind this, accept for Atkins isn't ready for AFL football yet, he needs at least another month of consistent SANFL footy. Lynch to the wing then pods stays or Porplyzia comes in for him keeping in mind that this will probably be a wet game.

Out: Mackay, Martin, Lyons, Rutten, (Pods)
In: Lynch, Grigg/Cameron, B.Crouch, M.Crouch, (Porps)

If Mackay pulls up then M.Crouch stays out. (Or Brad depending on Fitness)

Contested marks is an over-rated stat. The avge per club per game is less than 10. Pods avges 1.8/game, equal 11th-14th in the league. Tex is equal 2nd-5th at 2.2. As a club, we rank 2nd for that stat. I suppose we'd be bottom if we didn't get those 1.8 contested marks per game though.
Meh, not disagreeing, it's just you seemed to be saying that Pods leading the club in contested marking said something about the state of our teams contested marking.

With Atkins, arguably you are never ready so why not chuck him in the deep end and see what happens. At worse, he doesn't make an impact but has an idea of the level he needs to get to and if he does stand up, we truly have a player on our hands

We have too many superstars consistently performing at a high level to give the young players a shot. They need to demonstrate that they're perfect footballers for an extended period of time at SANFL level before they should be considered.

I thought CEY & Cameron were still injured & unavailable?

Agree B Crouch & Lynch are must ins, but may have to pick a left field selection if we make more changes.

Rutten & Danger are must outs IMO. Both are no where near 100% & caught us short with Mackay's concussion. Also, no match up for Rutten this week.

Cameron is a Test, I believe CEY is too.
Probably right, not ideal bringing back Cameron CEY Crouch and Lynch back in, in one week. All have had extended lay offs. Sneak Grigg back in there for CEY, other 3 remain the same

Left Footer, Elite Ball User. 2 Things we dont have in the 1's at the minute.
Not the worst idea.

We're not giving Grigg a game... so you'd think Atkins is not going to play.

Grigg is best 21. How Martin is in ahead of him is beyond my wildest dreams.
Atkins has been performing well at SANFL. Well enough to demand AFL selection, probably not, but neither have any of the others.

CEY was only brought in as an EMG in the first place so he'd be no chance of coming into the side when returning from injury.

Thanks - in Sydney, so not up with the latest.

IMO, Cameron should come in (even if as a sub) if fit, but I would not risk CEY too as not a 1st choice player - you just don't risk injured fringe players.

Hopefully, Cameron, B Crouch & Lynch are all ins.

Rutten & Danger should be outs on lack of match ups/injury. Mackay should only play if cleared.

Lynch is an essential link man for us, must come in. Bring Hendo in as well, we need someone who can kick (Smith) in our midfield more than anything else. Beautiful big forward line being wasted by amateur league delivery

Except it makes us incredibly slow.

And Pods doesn't kick enough goals to justify his position.
.

Neither does Lynch but he'd incredibly important to the structure.

Having said that I don't think this is the week to try the 4 talls considering it will be wet.

- Walker is our best leading forward but poor defensively.
- Jenkins is a poor contested mark and is soft defensively but very good when he finds space. Also the 2R so must play.
- Lynch is an excellent flanker/midfielder doing most of his work in the middle 3rd of the ground. In our top 10 players and must play.
- Pods is our best contested/pack mark in the forward line and also swings back to defence when the opposition get a run on. Also has some licence to get up into the middle 3rd.

So all 4 have strengths and weaknesses. Combined they are too slow/not defensive enough as a unit.

Here's how I'd like to see it structured up for the future:

Lynch plays a high HF/wing position. He can easily play midfield. I know, i know…he's slow. The difference is between he and the other slow guys is that Lynch will actually bust his arse to run, run, run both defensively and offensively. Has footy smarts. Will hurt the opposition and set play up. So essentially he's a tall mid who can push forward.

The other semi-obvious move is to replace Pods with a guy who is still a marking threat but has more pace and can still run up the ground as an extra man when required (though Lynch will provide this in some respects). If only we had a quick, marking beast proven to be dangerous around goals but currently underperforming in another position (with due to injury, no footy smarts, or poor skill). Dangerfield…come on down and become the new Gary Ablett Snr/Leigh Matthews. Wont be wasted down there as long as he still has licence to run upfield when required. How dangerous would he be down forward in those contested situations? Opposition coach would be having nightmares, far more than discussing how to chop off his crap handballs and kicks through the midfield!

Plenty of space left for a defensive half-forward, Betts and Cameron. 7th forward is just a rotating mid.

F: Dangerfield, Walker, Betts
HF: Kerridge, Jenkins, Cameron
C: Lynch, B Crouch, Smith

Sounds good at Dangerfield should definitely play forward for about 40% of the game because he's so dangerous, but the forward line isn't our problem at the moment...

Last week Jenkins kicked 4 goals (should have been 5), Betts kicked 3, Tex kicked 2 & Pods 2. Cameron's last game he kicked 3. Kerridge last kicked 4 goals against Kangaroos playing as a forward.

Our forward line over the last month has functions well (except the Freo game). The problem is midfield. Don't throw the baby out with the bath water. Dangerfield and Sloane aren't suddenly not good enough for the midfield. They have dropped off in form but they are still our best mids along with Thommo and Smith when able to be released.

I say we still start them as mids and hopefully they play like we know they can. Can and should always swing Dangerfield forward at times. Many seem to forget how good Dangerfield is and have lost all faith in him. I'm sure Hawthorn & Geelong (and any club for that matter) wouldn't say no to having Dangerfield in their midfield. Yes he may be injured so they'll have to consider that, but I wouldn't send him forward because suddenly he "has crap handballs and kicks". Let's not write him off.

Prior to being injured on Sunday, Hendo seemed to be off the pace. He was caught holding the ball on one occasion when he seemed very unaware of the players around him.

Unfortunately there is no game for the Ravens this weekend so we could accept the inevitable on Sunday and play Lynch, Crouch X 2, Hendo and Charlie so that they are ready to go for the GWS match.

I have a feeling that Sando will be advised by Triggy and Chappie to do whatever is required to diminish the size of the loss on Sunday. Longterm thinking, you have to be joking. Did anyone else pick up the comment from Rob Chapman yesterday that he had come from a meeting with Sando who went through his plans for the Showdown? I presume that Kochie is sorting out the interchange bench with Ken Hinkley at this very moment.

Really don't care who goes in or out. Player for player they are better and if that's what it boils down to they will win comfortably.

Nope - this is a game which will be won in the coaches box IMO. Our only chance is if our coaching staff can cook up a brave, innovative game plan tailored specifically to Port - and the players carry it out to the letter.

The plan must be designed to beat Port's. We go there with our own plan and ask them to beat it, then it will be a slaughter

Im not a troll. I just tell it like it is. Our coach has his blinkers on for specific players

If you honestly think Talia isnt good at football you're a moron. Troll or not, I dont think you should be commenting on football at all if this is a genuine opinion of yours.

Talia is a chance to be AA in a team that has played rubbish football for much of the year.

Theres more to football than kicks and goals, otherwise Lewis Johnston would be our best player

The above structure is how basically every team in the AFL sets up now. Sydney can afford to play goodes, tippett, reid and buddy because Goodes and Buddy are like big midfielders. The only one out of our 4 that can spend time in the midfield is lynch.

Our biggest problem will also be defensive pressure. Hawks played Roughead, buddy, gunston, hale because they had cyril, hill and breust putting on crazy amounts of pressure. We have no one that does that besides petrenko.

We need cameron to come on pretty quickly i guess

Shows what you know.
Betts is our best pressure forward and you havent even mentioned him.
Cameron is also already good at that aspect of the game.

Which is why they are so vital.
They turn a 50-50 into posession.
They are more valuable than a hard ball get, especially given how many goals are kicked off them.

I guess goals are an overrated stat because theres only 12-13 of them a game?

Ill get shouted down for this, but anyone think Porps would be a good selection?

Been in great form, possibly earnt his spot and it seems conditions will suit.

How does he nromally go against the pear?
Another slow guy unfortunately. Can't play midfield.

Only way is if we pull a massive shock and drop Reilly to play Porps as the 7th defender playmaker…won't happen.

Jack is Back would be over the moon at the re introduction of Porps:p

Seriously? Wow... There is now one person on the board who has the capacity to provide any sort of insight into our gameday efforts, and that is Mark Ricciuto. That said, unless specifically requested to by the coach, even he shouldn't be interfering with said gameday efforts, as he's a board member, not part of the coaching staff. Sando should not have to explain a damn thing about our match day selections and strategy to Rob ****ing Chapman. In the words of Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson...
