Good post.
Not sure about tagging DM. By whom? Someone niggly like Knight? Seeds? --- has the pace to go with Martin, maybe?
I hope the boys are being given anti-fend lessons by someone at training. Beating Martin's fend would do the trick, since it gets him both time and space. Anyone in here got any anti-fend clues?
I've been thinking about that actually. Dusty is just so strong to tackle most of the time but when he tries his fend off with ball in hand the tackling player should grab the fend off arm with both hands and hang on for dear life. I suspect Dusty will still be able to break free more times than not bit if it's done well enough he might have trouble legally disposing of the ball. At the very least it might make him think twice about the fend off.

The thing with Martin is you can't tackle standing up, he fends you off.

You've got to go in low and target his hips, if you do that and he fends you off he's getting you high and it's a free.

Martin didn't do a hell of a lot in the middle, it's when he went forward that he did the damage and lifted them.

So if we can tag him, they will send him forward and then Hartigan takes him.

Who is going to tag him? I feel Knight won't be strong enough.
Yes, Hartigan when forward (or even Kelly).

In the middle he and Brad Crouch can go head to head (or Greenwood could negate him). I believe we have him covered. Got to keep an eye on their mosquito fleet and also win this to put egg on Mick Malthouse's face who raves over Richmond but not us:

Getting very nervous about the MRP. Looking at the incidents, they should be fine, but the MRP is so unpredictable, and well, VFL....

What’s the general consensus?
They'll either screw the whole competition and let Cotchin play.

Or screw Sloane to compensate for Cotchin missing

My gut feeling is they will find a way to let everyone off, even though technically Cotchin should get a game off.

Not fussed a long as they don't rub out Sloane for making a contest.

Hope you win, hope you dont get robbed by umpires, its a real worry being the interstate team v Victorian fairytale.
Hopefully we get a fairer run than you did last year v Bullies...

The only thing that can stop the Crows this week is the media building up Richmond's "story" to the extent it influences the umpires. If Cotchin gets off, we'll know the fix is on.

Conspiracy theories aside though, Adelaide are in a different class to Richmond. Statements like "it's the Crows flag to lose" are stupid, but if Adelaide play to the same standard they did on Friday night then it's hard to see Richmond going with them. Give em hell.

I agree. Adelaide imo are clearly the better team, but as we saw with the Dogs last year the built up fairytale can carry teams through a final. You never know on the day.

Cotchin and to a lesser extent Ellis' hit is a blessing in disguise for us. In their attempts to ensure both get off for the grand final for hits that could potentially get done earlier in the season - it will make it far harder for them to conjure up a charge against Sloane that leads to his suspension. My guess - all 3 will be cleared to play this week.

Can't read the article, but Mick was a defensive coach who played for Richmond...

Thanks Kane, that makes sense. BTW, I could not get in through the link as there is a paywall, but I can get in through doing a Google search using key words such as: Mick Malthouse Richmond Adelaide Crows September 17 2017

In both games at Adelaide Oval against Geelong we played so well the umpires could not help them.

I feel we will.be at that level again this week.

We have to be.

I would go with sloane to tag Martin.

You know Sloane will be tagged. Try and get Sloane to break his tag by tagging Martin.
Not a tag per-se, but on the ball Sloane went to Dangerfield most of the time. Not a strict tag but just a head to head and did well. Something similar on Martin I'd say, but when he drifts forward get Hartigan or Kelly on him. I'd even consider Lever

Don't tempt fate.. we went a period of nearly 3 quarters without a free last year.

You are right though, the Crows best is a mile ahead of the Tigers best. If your boys bring their A game then the umpiring shouldn't be a factor, no matter how bad it may be.

Fascinated to see how Cotchin gets off now.

Last time we played Richmond Dusty had 25 and a goal / Cotchin had 26 - but neither had any real influence. I'd be sticking to what we did in that game, as we seemed to match up with them pretty well.

Changes ... for us?

The only change I'd think about making is Otten out and someone quicker in.

I cannot see a match-up for Otten against the Tigers backline ...

B - Alex Rance, David Astbury, Dylan Grimes
HB - Reece Conca, Bachar Houli, Brandon Ellis

That is very different to the Geelong taller zone covering defence.

Otten was good last time we played the Tigers and he does play that swingman role really well. If (touch wood) someone goes down in the GF - he can play as 2nd ruck, forward or back.

I have a feeling they will stick with the same setup. No changes unless McGovern is absolutely 100%, then he comes in for Otten.
