I want to see Laurie inclluded.
And not for 5mins as a sub.
He probably deserves a go, but don't get too sucked in by his stats from the weekend. Wasn't as good as they suggest and it was the weakest oppo you could imagine. It's an interesting watch though, he's deserved a shot for a while on previous form but hasn't got it - Is he not yet doing what they specifically want? Others ahead of him? Or is he not in future plans?

At the moment, I reckon he should be ahead of Spargo and Viney.

my pleb take into the byes is no major changes because the energy and pressure has been great, and that is a major factor in gaining results. id rather keep a "worse" player in bringing the pressure/energy than swapping in a "better" player who doesnt bring it

I'm not sure if he's ahead of both, Spargo has gotten gradually better and Viney is a different role (usually anyways), but Laurie definitely deserves a shot on his form the last month.

I’d have Tmac/Adams in for May.
Let him be fresh for pies game.

I’d save Viney for pies game too.

Spargo out - Laurie or Brown in

Yep, Spargs has to go. Not sure Laurie has the manic pressure that a Brown or Tholstrup would bring. So i think those 2 are ahead of Laurie.

I'd be reluctant to make too many changes. Viney could come in for Spargo and if he's not right then try Tholstrup or Kynan. That would be about it.

Looking back over the mini match AJ created 3 goals with things that dont register on the stat sheet. In particular the tap to Sharp was very good. Can see Goody keeping him in the team while he does the little things. As soon as they drop off he'll have nothing to fall back on and will be out for JVR.

Yeah his dropped mark and lack of skills annoyed me but his aggression is hard to ignore.

Just give JVR as long as he needs to get right and get him back in fit and hungry.

Those efforts to make contests and get a hand in to intercept were great from him. He's a good workhorse to have around and having a mongrel bastard like him in the side should make blokes walk a bit taller when he's near (although he had the awareness not to murder a Swan in the last flying past a contest).

I gave the full game a watch having been at the ground - and agree with others that AJ does so many of those 1% things that he will get at least another week. His fumbling and dropping of marks will continue to frustrate but it’s not like he’s keeping out a guy who will clunk everything in sight and has clean hands.

Yes AJ takes the ruck to spell Gawn, but he’s truly terrible up against AFL quality rucks and even AFL level relief rucks. He needs to find another way to go about those contests and at the very least not give away blatant free kicks.

I can’t see them keeping Viney out once he’s fit and as as others have said the sensible thing would be for Viney to take Spargo’s role. But we know that won’t happen. He will be in the midfield again and I’d expect Rivers to be out and probably Trac more forward - Trac has feasted on the Saints as a forward a few times in the past. His 20 goals against them is the most he’s kicked against any team and he’s had a couple of games with 4.

Unless there’s some sort of fitness problem with a tall back I can’t see why they’d bring Tmac back against St.Kilda. Saints are running a pretty underwhelming set of tall-ish forwards in Wood, Sharman and Owens all around that 190-193cm mark. Rivers may even take one of those quasi-talls at times with McVee minding Higgins.

I think it will be a pretty boring

In: Viney
Out: Spargo (concussion/form, take your pick)

If they retain Spargo I don’t know how they squeeze Viney in.

Sharp to retain the sub vest. He’s now generated 4 goals from his 5 subbed on games in the equivalent of just over two full games’ worth of time. It seems to suit him and his strengths of pace and endurance when fresher give him that little bit more time and space to execute his sometimes iffy skills.

Hopefully the club can see that the midfield looks much better without Viney and Oliver in there at the same time. In years gone past, there's no doubt that they would have just brought Viney back in to displace someone else, irrespective of form, but I think we've shown a bit more boldness in team selection this year in comparison with previous years, so hopefully that continues here.

I like the idea of bringing Viney in to replace Spargo, playing a small-forward role. He has no idea how to play forward, obviously, but what he should be able to play is a role as a tagger of the opposition half-backs. In the next two weeks, we've got St. Kilda and Collingwood who have potentially match-winning playmakers (Wanganeen-Milera and Daicos) in their backline, and I'd basically tell Viney that he doesn't need to touch the ball as long as he's able to make their lives miserable.

According to Demonland (yeah, yeah, I know), Spargo is gonna be out for a few weeks with a shoulder, so someone's gonna have to replace him anyway. If Viney's not ready, I'd like to see Laurie given a chance.

I think Henderson is a chance to replace Spargo. Spargo is out for 4-6 weeks. If Goody wants to maintain the fwd pressure, he may opt like for like and go for Henderson who had a stack of tackles on the weekend.

First Viney's delayed concussion ensures Bo Allan only cops a week now Spargo gets a significant injury a few hours after AFL give Mills a short suspension. Wonder if we're helping other clubs out with our medical reports?

Nevermind the injury report says the shoulder thing happened prior to the mills hit.

I know I've said to stick with the forward mix, but that's probably enough of AJ for now. Spargo should probably go back to Casey too, but understand if they don't want to make many unforced changes.
I don't really agree with this on AJ.

I think he was really impactful. Helping to set up a number of scores. And his ruck-work is useful.
We can't afford to lose his aggression and hunt on the footy, with spontaneous speed to the footy.

He's doing a lot more for us, than his stats suggest.

Without him in the team, we lack attack on the ball.

... now Spargo gets a significant injury a few hours after AFL give Mills a short suspension.
I've just studied the video of the hit, and I reckon eScargo hurt his shoulder blade when he landed following being hit-high.

I bet anything sparg's broken injured shoulder would be his Left shoulder. He landed heavily directly in his shoulder blade.

I don't believe that.
I'm more than happy with the explanation that we're lying to the AFL about injuries to help other clubs with suspensions because it makes the club look cool.

If Viney comes in could he possibly play Spargo's forward role? Was thinking JVR in but McDonald forward isn't a bad idea either.
I don't think JvR's ready just yet. We don't want to do to him what we did to Weide.

Let him burst thru the coaches door first, as it were... before bringing him back.
.............................

I liked seeing Salem in the midfield mix (excellent inside) against the Swans... So put Salem into the midfield rotations and maybe even the defensive H/F role.

Lets try Sestan down back in Salems (old spot)... and/or also the midfield rotations.

Start Salem on the interchange rotations.

Viney has to come straight back in.

Study this clip in full screen mode... and stop the video right at the point spargs hits the deck. You will see clearly what he lands on Re his body's impact with the ground.
