Either Henderson, Laser or Ricky Menths for Spargo. Love Viney, but its not his time to come back, yet.
Mentha is a mile off it.

Laurie has been splitting time forward and on ball in the VFL but he plays as a pretty attacking forward instead of the Spargo role. He does like to tackle.

Henderson from memory played a little bit forward earlier in the year at AFL level. He’s certainly a tackler.

Brown is another who has played some time forward but not last year and he is a tackler also.

Then there’s Viney as another option and he also is a good tackler.

Plenty of pressure type options, aside from Mentha IMO.

McVee surely goes to Higgins right? He's the only guy that scares me in the saints fwd line.

Turner on Sharman?

Lever on Mason Wood?

Bowey on say a Max Hall or something?

Tmac for May.
Brown, tholstrup or Henderson for Spargo. Either one of them who comes in has to play that pressure forward. Don’t worry about scoring just worry about creating that quick kick out of oppo defence or keeping the ball inside our 50.

Save Viney for Kings Bday.

Really need a half forward to play a role on Sinclair/NWM.

Speed and precision off half back is about the only weapon the Saints have at the moment.

I like Viney to half forward longer term but not sure if he has the toe to run with either of them. Someone like Chin could be perfect

I'm assuming Viney comes in. Just because Straight swap for Spargs.
Tmac should come in, but for who? May? Lever? AJ?

I doubt they drop May for our one NT game (even though he's a Darwin boy, not Alice). In fact, I doubt they drop May at all any time soon – Goodwin wouldn't want to be drawing attention to back us in the media at the moment, now that things are finally going a bit better.

Unfortunately for TMac, it looks like he's being viewed as depth at the moment. I'd rather him to May and Lever on current form, but those two are nearly bulletproof from a selection standpoint, and I want them to keep developing Turner.

I like McDonald's running in straight lines when he has possession. Not easy to tackle head on.
As time marches on, May and Lever become more delicate.

Oh Turner has to stay in. His game on Sunday was great, improved from an already good week prior!

May’s form is bang average and he might be at the point where his body will no longer do what is asked of it (mind you, TMac has surprised me twice now). But he still knows how to marshal a defence and improve the set-up by telling people where they need to be.

I think sometimes things like this play into selection decisions somewhat

What we need to do is recognise may is slowing down and release his role. Get him using the footy more, let him drift a bit rather than just playing him in one position.
That would work better. As the main lockdown he can still mark, but not as much as before, and he can’t bend or be quick with the second effort. So do something different and get his penetrating kick working better. He’s still got it but we don’t use it.

I think Henderson is a chance to replace Spargo. Spargo is out for 4-6 weeks. If Goody wants to maintain the fwd pressure, he may opt like for like and go for Henderson who had a stack of tackles on the weekend.
Agree and actually think he played pretty well earlier in the year, just we played shit and kept panic dump kicking forward which makes it real tough for his role.

I was at the games and his pressure and zipiness stood out but I don't think a lot of it was captured on TV as he was often outnumbered or covering laziness of other forwards.

Study this clip in full screen mode... and stop the video right at the point spargs hits the deck. You will see clearly what he lands on Re his body's impact with the ground.

Sorry sugar, as much as I am loving you pegging it on Mills and giving air to a conspiracy but...

He very clearly gets hurt just prior to this in a play on the boundry line. Need to watch the replay to catch it.

Shows he is tougher than we give him credit for to keep playing. Was Cleary bothered by it and trying to work what he had done.

In: Henderson
Out: Spargo

I get the frustration with AJ fumbling and dropping marks but as others have rightly pointed out he had 2 smothers that directly resulted in goals and that crafty tap for a other one. Yeah he gives away a few dumb kicks being undersized in the ruck but a decent contest.

He brings the ball to ground, often fighting from out of position. He causes some genuine chaos from how hard he goes at the ball. There was a play where he cleans a defender up in the marking contest hits the ground and immediately cleans up another one while going for the ball. Didn't results in a goal but the defenders sure knew he was around.

Petty isn't doing a lot but he is getting the best defender and providing a contest. He can go back if someone gets injured or switch with Turner if we need a hail Mary.

JVR - my pick to come back in if he can string together another nice game or two against better VFL teams but runs under the ball or loses his footing too often in the AFL.

Fullerton - seems to get to a lot of contests but completely uncompetitive. Actually has some nice tap work when not getting manhandled.

Magician - Gets manhandled but even worse he completely goes missing for whole quarters at a time. Legit can't find him anywhere on the screen even when in our fwd line and can't ruck at all.

McDonald - give him a run forward again! Playing too well to be dropped. Nice set shit. Big target. Don't expect a lot of agility or fwd pressure though.

How the **** are people advocating for Henderson over Laser?

Laser has been getting 20+2 minimum every week in the VFL, and he has actually been consistently hitting the scoreboard. It’s already a pisstake 4 disposal (and 1 goal in 9 matches) Spargo was getting ahead of him and now we have people saying VFL plodder Henderson is also ahead.

Watch another club swoop on Laser seasons end and we offload him for pick 93 only for him to turn it on for an opposition club in 2026.

Likely just Viney for Spargo. Really hope it doesn't screw with our midfield mix (it will)
