Do you think D Mac will be selected in the 22 this week?

Frampton for Walker (Right now, I dont want to see either Frampton or Himmelberg near the team)
Mackay for McAsey (Need more height down back. Lets see how McAsey's tracking - And Mackay is the most dispensible defender atm)
O'Connor for McHenry (I want to bring in McHenry asap and despite not doing much wrong, I still think O'Connor is the last man in, so should be the first man out)

Hamill/Smith/Jones is enough rebound, is it not?

Not with four lockdown players who have no offensive capabilities, no

If any of the others had shown any ability to take attacking options out of defense then maybe you could cop it. But the four lockdown players we have are backwards/sideways safe chippers with mediocre disposal

But what has that got to do with it? We're not bringing out a rebounder for a lockdown player (especially if we decide to bring in Worrell as a tall, who is more of an attacking player)

FWIW from what I recall Mackay played quite a bit on the wing today (heatmaps agree with me), so I'm not really classifying him as a 'rebounder'

It's a structural thing. With two KPDs and Doedee and Kelly and Brown we suddenly are carrying too many lockdown players and not enough rebound. One KPD and the others and we're too short.

It's because Kelly is not a versatile player unfortunately.

I'd bring him in for specific games to do jobs on players like Heeney
And Fritsch.

Too strong/big for Brown, too small for McAsey.

Plus they have other talls.

Who are you dropping to get a second KPD in the side?

We play 7 defenders in the 22.

Today it was Butts, Doedee, Kelly, Smith, Hamill, Brown & Jones.

IMO, McAsey or Murray should come in for Kelly to give us a better balance.

Doedee, Smith or Jones can play on Fitsch.

McHenry should come in for Mackay Into the midfield mix.
Mackay was a defender today.

So which out of the 7 i named wasn't in defence today...

Mackay was on a wing.

I’m pretty sure Kelly on the move end of year so wouldn’t it be right to see the next in line?

People do realise Kelly is one of our best actual defenders?

Against the best side in the comp, ladder position, with a guy like Fritsch he has a role.

If we keep Kelly, either Brown or Doedee would need to make way.

We need to be thinking about our future back 22.

I'd have Mackay and Frampton out for 2nd KPD and Tex

Leaves Sholl/Seed as our wingmen, with potentially someone like Sloane or Schoenberg to play a bit more on the outside wing, too

So who comes out from defense to actually fit the KPD in?

You are claiming this doesn't hurt our rebound but who actually is out/moved up field?

That 8 I named before is where I see it in the future and next week.

Wing and HB is somewhat interchangeable.

You're acting like we can't play 8 defenders in the side

Two KPDs
One attacking interceptor (I think Doedee will be freed up to be more counter-attacking if we bring a 2nd KPD in)
One lockdown small
One lockdown medium
Three rebounders

And rotate through them. Of course we won't play one rebounder in defence at a time, but we can give any two of our defenders (at any given point) either time on the bench, or time up the ground

Well we only pick 7 defenders in the 22 not 8.

If we are serious about building our backline for the future, we need to start picking the players we think are part of that future.

There is only so much room for defenders on the field.

Sure you can play 8 defenders. But that means some of the time those players are on the bench or are in other positions.

If we add a KPD into our defense that means a rebound defender is playing somewhere else, whether that's on the bench or up the field. Or they aren't in the team at all.

Alternatively, if we add a KPD and are rotating another lockdown defender somewhere else (or to the bench) then we haven't actually added a second KPD at all because one of them is not actually playing a KPD role at any given time.

In: Worrell, McHenry, Tex

Out: Kelly, Mackay, Frampton.

Worrell for Kelly is a structural change to get a bit more height in defence (and I'm loathed to remove Brown or Doedee), so Kelly is just the unlucky victim of that. Other two are just getting better players into our lineup.

senior players need weeks of terrible form to be dropped even if we need to address a structural issue. Kelly won't be dropped, Mackay might, but doubtful.

??? Don't understand how rotating a KPD onto the field for a lockdown defender is not adding a second KPD at all?

If you rotate Kelly/Brown onto the bench for, say, McAsey, then we most likely have two KPDs playing KPD roles (i.e. tall lockdown/intercept roles) against Brown/McDonald, as well as an interceptor, a lockdown player and two rebounders? That sounds pretty balanced and role-specific to me
