Could Keays spend some time up forward? Seems a decent overhead mark.

Often he'll get a floating hospital pass kicked to him (our speciality) that I expect to be spoiled but he hangs on.

Yup, he certainly could.

It won't happen this year, but likelihood he'll make a career out of being a wing/half forward/inside rotation once he gets overtaken by Pedlar, Berry, Schoenberg and mr X. Similar to Robertson at Brisbane.

To play Brisbane with any level of competitiveness we need the toughest team we can. Sloane will be missed, I would love to see a tough replacement.
Not sure we have much in reserves though, if Murphy if match fit he should come in given his forward pressure, would love to see Pedlar have a go.
Not sure Hately is at the level, but want him to be given a chance, he is bigger bodied of course - could be good against Lyons.
I don't see Frampton long term, but should be considered, but last impact at AFL were poor.
Fogarty, Hamill, Sholl are under the pump, MacKay could go out but doubt it. Fogarty is kicking goals though, but needs to improve to be more consistently in the game.
I think McHenry should go to the middle, he could match up will against Zorko. Not sure of he's ready, but why not give him a go, we need some gang tackling in the middle of the ground, we will lose the game here.

No neither do I. Flagged him for delisting before the season. But you always want to check
Based on what? The fact that you had not seen him play a single game in the SANFL let alone the AFL?

He had not played a single game of senior footy. Hmm, third round draft pick, didn’t stand out in the under 23 trial match, DELIST. You make Vader seem like a thoughtful analyst of young talent.

I am not sure that he will make it in the AFL but I would like to see him play a season in the SANFL before jumping on the delisting train. Please tell us what you based your “Flagged him for delisting before the season” was based on?

This is the same stuff you post all the time. Not willing to back up your opinion?

You know the old story, opinions are like aresholes and you have plenty of them.

I just find it funny that you must have an alert set for "Scorpus posting about Ronin O'Connor"

In all seriousness way back my comment about O'Connor, and this may be hard for you to believe, was just a throwaway line based on looking at our list profile.

We played 38 players in 2020. This meant six of our players did not play a single game. Wilson, Gallucci, Worrell, Taylor, O'Connor and Gollant. Only three of those players are still on our list in 2021.

So by the basic skill of deduction, it's not hard to come to the conclusion that the only three remaining guys who didn't play at all in 2020 are at risk of being delisted. We can't delist non-rookies taken in the 2020 draft, so it's not ridiculous to suggest that one or more of the players among the lowest rated on our list (by our coaches at selection) would make way.

It's actually the fact he didn't play any senior games that works against him. Not being able to get a game in the spoon side that played 38 players throughout the year isn't a mark of quality, especially when you aren't injured.

Anyway to cut to the chase, I didn't think it was likely we would delist a 20s pick in Josh Worrell, leaving Gollant and O'Connor. Of the two, which is really what it came to, I rate Gollant higher and suggested O'Connor to be delisted. Especially given O'Connor is an inside midfielder that's basically last in the queue for a spot in that position.

That's really all it is.

It's the only plausible explanation. People that look at stats and wonder why he's not thrown up a high 20s game yet could consider that a lack of progression. It's not how I see it, but if all you did was look at stats and you saw the below, you might mount the argument that he's not improving. Lots of people only look at stats to determine output.

Of course .... I watch every game of every round

There were 10 worse players than Mackay .....I'd be the first to say drop the guy, if I felt it warranted and there was a suitable replacement ......IMO Sholl is most likely to be that player, however Parnell's the perfect like for like

Brown didn't get the job done defensively yesterday .....and he was limping again at stages of the game

ROB had a shocker .....De Koning will go past ROB next year, very impressive player De Koning is .....ROB should have been able to use his superior strength to gain position ...nope couldn't do it
Suggest you watch Sean Darcy to see how ROB should be playing .....Darcy will be the clear #3 ruck in the AFL next year

Doedee was largely non existant .....having no influence on the game

Love how Hamill wins the ball .....but gee what he does with it is sometimes woeful, and his opponent gets off the leash a lot

Butts was thrashed

But none of the above has hadd any discussion re their games .....all except Mackay, it's comical actually

Laughable...

Using the inconsistent performances of sub 50 game kids to defend the consistent trash of a 250 game experienced veteran.

Whilst we will miss a fit Sloane, we won't miss a playing injured Sloane & it could be a blessing in a rebuild year.

It will force us to open up significant midfield minutes for developing players. Of the current players, all of Schoenberg, Berry & Murphy could do with (more) midfield rotations.

It's just a question of whether we bring in O'Connor or Hately. Perhaps it's time to give Hately a solid block of games to see what he has. As LoBu mentioned, could learn plenty matching up on Lyons.

Please Mackay was not in our best 10-12 players

Can you honestly say in a rebuild year where we have the opportunity to give games to Worrell, Pedlar and Cook that Mackay should be playing based on a regular production of 12-14 touches a game

Except for his hard ball get against StKilda he has had little influence on the majority of games he had played this year and the team is getting little value for his experience. The first job of an experienced player in a rebuild year is to perform

We are not finals contenders, we should already be building for 2022, its time to give DMac's games to a younger and talented player

Look, Mackay wasn't in the bottom six to eight worst.

I don't know how much we can keep arguing about whether that matters or not.

Mackay or Hamill for Worrell
Sloane for Hately.

Sorry I have to continue to push this "structure" approach to footy teams .....and also the fact that in any rebuild it's not about having 22 players on field under 50 games .....if you want to go the Gold Coast approach, then you're on your own

This is sounding preachy, but you need certain player types in a side .....tall KPP, and a mix of speed and slower inside types

There's a reason 7 Crows Coachs .......7 ......That's 7 .......who have continued to select Mackay over his career, despite supporters 10 year push to have him permanantly out of the side

On the weekend we had 11 players in that side with under 15 games experience, 12 if you include the medi-sub .....you have to have a certain level of experience around those kids, to be competitive and help with development

Don't you think the club would have already replaced a 33 YO Mackay IF there was a structural replacement ready .....I mean the club was ready to say goodbye to a 31 YO Tex Walker, and still haven't committed to him for next year, despite his form .....that's because the club has structural options to Tex

I mean there's just a bit of logic required in these matters

It’s a mystery because those 7 coaches didn’t rate him durning the season through those years at the bnf.

Mackay's a role player, not a game winner .....has never been close to a top 10 B & F to my knowledge & that's not surprising at all

But those 7 Coach's all continued to pick Mackay ....even though each Coach tries to put their personal imprint on a team from the Coach B4 .....or tries to improve the team from the previous Coach

Mackay thru all of that was a constant .....go figga

Not true. He finished 10th in 2019, and was 4th or 5th on a votes-per-game basis in 2020 (but didn't play enough games to make the top-10 overall).

Hately sure picked a terrible time to have an 11 touch SANFL game, right when a Sloane-sized hole opens up in the first team.

He's been decent lately though so seems likely they'll put him in.
How much game time did he have? Was he a travelling emergency?

I hope Berry and Schoenberg get first dibs at the spare midfield minutes but suspect that Hately will get a go

I liked what I saw of Pedlar in the SANFL. He's the bloke I'd to see...raking left foot....and 4 clearances / 8 inside 50's....bring him in for Sloane. For Brown I'd bring in Worrell again for second crack, given the lions have a couple of handy talls up fwd. We should drop McAdam as well and bring in Gollant, but I can't see us dropping him.

From what I saw and heard last week I think Murphy will play forward. This will release berry our best one touch player to play midfield. If I was coaching I would play pedlar on reduced minutes as he is a class above hateley and O’Connor at this point in time. He will give us some grunt in the middle. I would also bring back Murray. Love his fearless attack on the ball and he is good In the air something we lack he provides the offensive ying to the defensive yang of butts and also provides some tall matchups with Brisbane’s forwards
