Dumb to drop Eddie for this game. He would’ve fired up v Carlton.

I also think Stengle would learn so much more playing alongside Eddie plus Eddie would’ve found more freedom with spurts higher up the ground.

Win win...except we have a dumb selection panel with no feel for the game following a robotic structure

Should have been Murphy out

As soon as you are thinking about trying to save your job... it's too late!

This appears to be an issue with the club, we are using the wrong business model. If the coach only needs to make finals to be re-employed then we are going to struggle to get to the pointy end. If we want strong, continued success then we need to have organic growth in our squad at all times. This will mean at times, we will miss the eight but if we are blooding youngsters and reaching kpis of players 21 reaching 50 games at AFL level, then we will always have the scope to improve the next year.

As it is, we are driving this bus into the ground in the hope we can get four more stops down the road

The issue with Otto is exceedingly obvious. We do not need to play 3 KPDs against Carlton. Otten’s ONLY viable role at AFL level is as an undersized KPD on slow KPFs where he can use superior footy IQ to cover for his size disadvantage. He’s going to be playing on a small or medium and will get cut up. It was a perfect opportunity to play a better set up that gives us a bit more run while actually improving us defensively. Sticking to the 3 KPD structure just because Harto can play a bit quicker is absolute stupidity. It makes us worse defensively and reduces our ability to rebound hard from our back half. It’s a ******* disaster that our coaches have selected him. His se,ection is the poster child for everything that is wrong with our coaching group’s philosophies on football. They’re completely f’ed.
So playing Butts would not fix that.

I do agree playing 3 KPDs against Carlton is not a great set up. They only have two KPFs. One of them is Casboult.

Maybe Otto will go forward. And the club see this as a good week to rest Keath as he is not needed in defence. I have no doubt Keath would be somewhat fatigued having played more games than before in a season.

Of course you could argue if this was the case it should have been Fog instead of Otten. Something I think should have happened if this is the case.

It is funny though people bang on about rewarding SANFL form, the club does that in naming Wilson, Stengle and Otto. Three of the best players in our SANFL season and yet a meltdown follows.

It’s not about whether Wilson / Otten are in form -they are. It’s the lack of imagination when presented with a chance to do something creative.

Looking at their forward line we just don’t need Otten - he doesn’t have a match up. So why not bring in a smaller defender and release Laird.

We all know we are stacked for slow inside mids- so drop Greenwood but re jig the balance by bringing in some pace.

What that selection is saying is there’s absolutely nothing wrong with what we’re doing we’ll just roll some different guys through the same structure.

Fogarty has had 2-3 good weeks - needs to be rewarded.

It could have been a good week to debut McPherson.

For me Wilson is an odd selection, he is basically MCrouch, unless he brings a better defensive game than most of our mids have shown. But Jones is in a slump, McHenry injured and we have seen Poholke.

Our midfield is one paced. But it also lacks defensive stopping power.

I am personally most disappointed Tex is playing and Fog is not. Once Tex gets a knock he is a non entity for the rest of the game. A big reason for our fade outs. The other being our lack of defensive pressure across most of the ground due to poor tackle technique by most of our players once a team takes the game on.

Or it is the most games Keath has played in a season and he is fatigued.....

Keath was noticeably limping at stages Friday night, clearly hampered by his ankle.
If he has been carrying it to the point he hasn't been doing main trainings fro a month and he is now having periods in games where he is limited by it visibly then resting him is the right move. Its probably less of a rest than an out injured. Why still on EMG list?

well id say that reflects our severe lack of KPD depth so they think in the off chance that Hartigan/Otten/Talia are injured between now and tomorrow that they think Keath would do better than Butts and that by him playing and then resting say next week that it wont increase the overall time he needs off

I also found that interesting. He wasn't named in the SANFL side so I figure they just put his name down.

The loss of Doedee has hurt and the delisting of Cheney instesd of Otten was a mistake. Also the fact we didnt target a key back last year through trade or draft when we had the picks was poor. Another KPD should have been a priority 2 to 3 years ago tbh. Likely this is the reason for the failed experiment of playing Fogarty down back.

Betts being dropped against walker could be justified as to how important a KPF is to the side, but the fact Walker is well down it may backfire, we need finishers and apart from JJ, betts seems the best equipped, Betts no doubt has been up and down though

Delisting Cheney wasn't a mistake at all

Imagine trying to get midfield minutes in the 2’s.
This was one of the big issues last week when Jacobs, Douglas, Gibbs and Wilson dominated the midfield minutes (and they still lost to the bottom team - that should tell you something) while guys like Gooch and Jones were stuck in roles that don't help their development.

If we are serious about developing for the future (because we are a LONG way off the pace right now), then both Jones and Gooch play mostly midfield minutes. No point rolling Gibbs and Douglas in there for 90 % of the game.

True KPD depth is an issue.

Not helped by losing Davis and Lever. Bearing in mind drafting is a long term planning exercise particularly in regards to early draft picks and depth list management.

Butts is two years away from being competitive at AFL level. Put on some bulk.

Jones has hit the wall for the season, no shame in that. We didn't get the games into him we should have done.

Gooch has to play midfield this week no question.

Yeah he has plain as day.

Was somewhat shocked he played the game out last week TBH.
Well, played the game out is a stretch, was on the field though [emoji1787].

Mind you that makes the changes even worse. So only Betts and Greenwood are accountable for our 2nd half fade outs?

Some lucky players in our team.

As if Tex’s injury wasn’t the perfect time to give him a rest without the embarrassment of being dropped.
FMD we are only focusing on the end of our nose, possibly not even that far.

Couldn't agree more, they've probably dropped the 2 luckiest ones mind you

I honestly think this is the worst state the crows list has been in since I started seriously following them. some of those names on the team sheet and emergency list simply should not be on an afl list or are cooked.
What's wrong with the emergency list ?? Keath aside it's exactly as it should be.
