Wouldn't be shocked if we get a bit of a touch up from the Swans this week, regardless of the effort we put in. It's the Buddy return game and everyone must praise the Swans.
On the flip side Brisbane disnt turn up with effort last week and if we bring the same effort it will be the first time the 4 swans debutante from last week have been challenged with that level of pressure and heat

I don't know why people think its so important to die on one side of the McDonald vs Thilthorpe hill so early. These 2 are kids and both have shown plenty to deserve their draft spot, and plenty since.

Personally I hope they are both superstars of the competition. The more KPF's dominating our game the better. It's why we all go to the footy!

I completely agree as long as Thilthorpe is miles ahead of McDonald

Very glad we're not rushing Matt and Talia back. No value in playing underdone seniors for the sake of beefing up the games played average.
I have great concerns with Matt Crouch coming back

I justbdont think his game suits that high pressure and quick ball movement game plan that we produces last week

He potentially slows down our ball movement and forces others to cover for him defensively

I hope that I am wrong

Not a problem we need to worry about for a few more weeks.

It will be interesting to see how we cover Brown's loss over the next couple weeks

IMO both Hamill and McPherson have the defensive qualities, discipline and attitude to play that lock-down role

I remeber watching Hamill in an sanfl game against Norwood in 2019 where he locked down on the very quick Wilson who was on our list and totally blanketed him out of the game

McPherson is just a total professional

I would love to see Nicks and Burns give one of them the added responsibility

If Worrall was coming in, the debut announcement would've been made by now I think.
Im so keen to see him but im not sure this is his best match up.

Brown-Mackay
Kelly-McAsey
Hinge-Jones

Smaller ground, more runners required.

Yuck, all 3 are big downgrades

I think for Brown we will need to replace him with a like for like small as Swans have Papley, Gulden, Wicks, Rowbottom and Heeney who aren't overly tall. They will likely drop McLean for Buddy unless they make buddy the sub imo.
So they will likely lineup with Reid, Buddy, McDonald as their talls.

Would put Butts on Buddy, Doedee on McDonald and Murray/Worrell on Reid. The other option is that you put Doedee on the more experienced Reid and Murray/Worrell on McDonald. McPherson I would put on their best small striker which is Papley or Heeney as McPherson has played on the best players such as Dustin Martin and looked very capable. Smith and Hamill on Wicks and Rowbottom. Hamill on Gulden is another ootion as he has the wheels for him. So we will likely need another small and have a tall on the sub bench(as we did last week with Hinge) in case we had an issue with one of our talls.

I wouldn't like to see Mackay or Jones as a replacement for Brown. I think we should only bring Jones in as a forward if we moved McHenry down back if we need another small lockdown player to replace Brown. A better option instead of Jones for me would be to give Pedlar a run if fit.

Rowbottom is an inside mid

Why not put Murphy back to defense and bring Jones in as a forward with McHenry as the pressure forward
May as well make Jones a HBF, where he actually did ok briefly last year... & leave Murphy in his current role.

Would really like to see Worrell this week.

All good points.
I dont want McHenry down back. I want him settled in one position and the forward pressing role is his ideal spot.
Pedlar will be a gun but too underdone to step up to AFL.
Its a tough one but Laird might have to slot down back this week and Schoey play more mid minutes. Scholl is an option down back too with Jones going to the wing and Laird staying as a mid.
Murray would work as a Kelly replacement.

I agree with everything outside of moving Laird back. Don't rob Peter to pay Paul here. Laird will make a much greater contribution to our teams defensive effort in the midfield.

Worrel for Brown (shift McPherson to Browns role, Worrell replaces Moose).
Murray for Kelly.
Mackay for Hinge (medical sub).

With 2 experienced defenders out, Mackay comes in - and it won't be as the sub. This is an absolute no brainer, and it will be the easiest decision they make this week (with regards to team changes). Cue melts from the usual BF suspects.

Murray was set to debut last week, until he got injured. I think he'll get his chance this week, filling that other defensive position.

That leaves Hinge's replacement as sub. I think they will avoid selecting a debutant in this position. OK, I'm really hoping they don't select a debutant in this position. I think they'll do what they did last week, and what most teams did last week, selecting a fringe player with a handful of games already under their belt. I think Chayce Jones is the most likely candidate, followed closely by Fogarty. Both were on the emergency list last week.

I know that Worrell is popular on this board, but he played all of the pre-season games with the SANFL group, and wasn't one of the 4 players named on our emergency list last week. There are no indications whatsoever that the selectors think he's close at this point in time.

This team will be even more inexperienced than last week's, with 12 of the 23 having less than 15 games experience. We will still have 10x sub-10 gamers, with McPherson graduating from that group, but Murray coming in for his debut. Sholl, Schoenberg, Hamill & McHenry will all play their 10th game this week, so don't expect any more double digit numbers for the sub-10 club for a while.

Drugs Are Bad Mackay? has been and always will be right about Mackay

The second he looks like being permanently dropped from the side, the position he plays gets decimated with injury.

This is the most pressure Mackay has ever been under for his spot, so no surprise we've also had the most injuries in that area I can remember

Since the point we sent out our emergency list, we not only had two defenders go down, we had their first replacement go down with injuries. Whilst usually it's a solid guide, not this one.

We played bold on the weekend

Will we select bold?

There are two very obvious replacements for the injured defenders - DMac & Murray. Murray wasn't on the emergency list last week, but should come straight in this week.

I think we will go Murray in as the first replacement.

That makes the defence look like:

MacPherson Butts Hamill
Doedee Murray Smith

I'm very reluctant to move one of the youngters who played well on the weekend. Let them back up in a similar role (i.e. Sholl, McHenry, even Murphy stay where they are).

I imagine then, we will bring in Jones. He can play wing/half back and would become part of that rotation along with Seedsman. (Personally I'd prefer Jones to keep playing SANFL and really build some form)

So we therefore go
OUT: Kelly, Brown
IN: Murray, Jones

That leaves the sub position. I'm 95% convinced Mackay will be the sub. He can play multiple positions, provides some run and is experienced enough to be able to come on and be ready to go.

I suspect that will be selection done.

Seedsman provided some defensive cover on the weekend after the injuries. He did ok to my eyes, apart from blazing out on the full uncharacteristically late in Q4.

I'll be interested to see if we keep him there as 7th defender to the six you named above. Or if we'll spy the opportunity to get D Mac in there and pounce.
