Normally I wouldn't post changes until after the VFL game however I think it's pretty straight forward what the changes need to be.
With a bit of luck weightman and Arty will be the only two left on the injury list. However Darcy, Croft and Garcia could all miss a couple more.

Out: Duryea, Cleary, Baker
In: Jaques, Treloar, Jones/Buss

If McNeil isn’t kicking goals he needs a rest. Maybe our draft pick next week in the mid season may be a ready made small forward who can kick straight.

In: Jacques, Treloar
Out: Cleary, Duryea

Freijah to defence with Treloar taking his midfield minutes. McNeil has some credits in the bank after kicking a goal every game but he's on notice. I thought Baker was okay last night so keeps his spot for the Hawks game.

Legit question, unlikely for the hawks game but what does Bevo do with Naughton when Darcy gets back? Does he play him higher up the ground? I didn’t think I’d ever say this but feel as though Buku is offering us more up forward at the moment.

Cleary has been good all season it would be incredibly reactive to drop him after one bad game.

Freijah to defence is a good move. Buss in is also fine to me. Bramble and Duryea just aren't playing at the right level right now.

I think once Darcy comes back it'll be a different situation than the opening 6 games as our midfield seems to be far more effective now that Bontempelli is back. Buku is benefiting from being the number 2 so I assume Naughton will as well. Good problem to have.

You think we play all 3 or Buku makes way?

If Darcy is available he is an automatic inclusion but I think he misses one more.
A return against the Hawks would fit in the optimistic end of his timeline (2-5), and Jon Ralph reported he has trained fully during the week with no soreness, and is well ahead of schedule.

Not saying it’s a guarantee, but I think there is a good chance he’s back against the Hawks.

I agree it's a strong possibility, the Darcy Gene is incredible. I just wouldn't be banking on it at this stage.

I expect all 3 to play. Buku has been pretty handy in the ruck so it's probable we'd only ever have two up there at any time between ruck minutes and interchange.
Buku has been playing that medium size forward role we have not had for a little while, though Weightman has been more like a medium forward in spite of how tall he is. With the current group Naughts, Darcy and Buku all play together as it also means when one is rucking or on the bench we keep 2 tall forwards on the ground at all times. Importantly they are all reasonable defensively which is critical with how the game is now played

Buku is offering more because the opposition doesn't put much time into him. Take Naughton out and that would change.

However if Darcy is back and playing deep forward I wouldn't mind seeing Naughton play a little higher and Buku continue to play the sneaky secondary marking option alongside him.

Naughton and Buku could share the duties of relief ruck when Timmy's having a break. It gives us a bit more unpredictability through each quarter as Buku and Astro are very different types.

We should be playing all three. I think Buku stays as the second ruck and we just leave Darcy forward the whole game plus take F50 stoppages. Naughton can play higher which might free him up a bit.

Buku is growing in confidence as a forward and I think can be a very handy third tall.

Out: Duyrea, McNeil, Jacques
In: Buss/Jones, Treloar, Baker.

Cleary's first bad game for the season doesn't mean he should be dropped. Keep getting games into him.
Cant have both VDM & McNeil who aren't good at kicking for goal. Also cant have both Bramble & Baker who have suspect kicking.

My ideal changes;
OUT: Duryea, Baker, Bramble
IN: Jaques, Treloar, Darcy

Really want Buss back in but looks like that won’t be happening especially with Darcy likely back in the next few. Khamis holding his spot as a swingman.

I feel we are as many as 2 talls to short depending on opponent and who makes way for them.
In defence Jones/Buss can certainly come in for Duryea or Cleary without giving up much if any speed, skill, or ground balls. I also like O'Donnell's ability to play tall or small which is a huge advantage.
In the forward line it's a little trickier and requires giving up a little speed or pressure but I'd still prefer Darcy over Mcniel or an extra midfielder.

I agree, I want us to ideally have an extra two talls in this line up (Darcy + Buss / Jones) but not sure that’s the structure the match committee is interested in. We are going in shorter than most of our opponents when we have Buss available now, which I’m not in favour of.
It works against lower opposition because we have more class in other areas but against the really good teams I think we need more of a tradition structure to help neutralise those high balls & give our stars are chance to impact the game more.
