If Georgiades didn't have a tight hammy would we still have picked him? I reckon Ken still would have squeezed in Sutcliffe somehow.

Sutcliffe was fine against richmond. He’ll be fine this week too
Maybe, but I just don’t get the theory behind Sutcliffe. What does he bring to the table that a player like Mayes or Garner don’t?

Ken loves a role player which is exactly what Sutcliffe is. Nothing special, won’t win the game off his own boot but he’ll do his job. I’m ok with having him in the side because we already have so much X factor. It’s not a sexy selection, but if we win the premiership this year I think we need Sutcliffe
What is his job?

Mayes was down last week, and give Ken half a chance to drop him and he did. Bringing back Sutcliffe is rubbish, he'll be delisted next year. Play the kids.
Mayes was putrid against Geelong, was given a second chance against Hawthorm and didn't respond. I dont think there is any issues with dropping him after 2 unacceptable performances. Same as Motlop.

So in summary the majority of us are happy with the inclusions bar Sutcliffe and most are wondering why Bonner is still in the side. To be fair Bonner did not have the worst game last Saturday and will be an out next week when Houston returns.

I think the argument for Cutliffe is he can play many roles and will be a 6/10 in whatever role he is needed in.

As an example Garner can come in and do good, tough accountable defending, but if we need someone to go in to the forward line Garner can't do it. Similar with Woodcock, he can come in and do offensive things but is he going to be able to swing back and play a defensive role?

It's a "hedging your bets" strategy that Ken likes I think, especially against poor teams where a side without clear deficiencies will be good enough to get it done - it's the same reason why Hoff rarely gets dropped, because he allows flexibility.

For the record I don't like it and don't think it's the best option, but I think this is Ken's thought process.

I don't hate too much Bonner getting another chance this week btw. He goes straight out once Dan comes back in and did some pretty special stuff last week with ball in hand.

Probably his last crack for the year barring injuries.

I imagine he’ll play forward like he has pretty much every game hes played for us, which neither Garner or Mayes do.

Id have kept woodcock in, but im not worries that sutcliffe is playing

Spot on. Once Ladhams and Houston are back, Westhoff and Bonner go out.
Then we'll look like a really good side.

i agree

he was fine. He will be fine against Sydney

If fine is what we’re happy with let’s fold the ****ing club though

Sutcliffe isn’t as horrendous as people may make out but he’s a finished product. He is the player he is, a barely competent role player, and he’s never becoming more than that.

so when he’s regularly getting games over younger players with unknown ceilings it’s infuriating.

hell, we’ve got a bunch of players who we need to make calls on at the end of this year or next and guys who may leave for more opportunities.

garner, drew Hayes (but westhoff is going eek out a few extra games as a complete passenger hey) and atley for starters. Come the end of the year we’re gonna have no idea whether these players have more to offer and will make a decision anyway.

then we will have holes on our list we will have to throw picks / money at to fix and put a bunch more time into developing all because Hinkley wanted to play Sutcliffe into the magical 70 afl games for port territory before he becomes a trivia question.
