Sounds like we may have JOD back, at half time Fox Footy mentioned Lobb also a chance, but I think he might be a week behind JOD from training reports last week so i'm going to assume we just get one for now (JOD).

In - JOD, Davidson
Out - English, Gallagher

If Lobb isn't ready I would move Buku forward next week to help Astro / Lewis and give Lachie Smith a chop out as 2nd ruck, if even just for one week. Carlton only play McKay as backup ruck so it shouldn't hurt us too much. Other options are Emmett who we have seen isn't quite ready and Croft who wasn't great at VFL and might need a few weeks there before selection.

Bevo did praise Gags after the game for not playing well throughout, but then taking his chance late to get a point, but I think it was more a symbolic thing. He wasn't great, didn't lay any tackles and went at 36% disposal efficiency so he comes out for Davidson for mine. Davidson hasn't been very good either this year, but he is suited to Marvel and his defensive running has been quite impressive, getting all the way back to help spoil through and staying with his winger, so he does still provide something.

Hynes only just ok, but I thought his last quarter was decent and laid the 5 tackles which helps.

Didn't Beveridge say both unlikely

Hynes is just not ready for Senior's. He does not have pace or grunt, so I'm not sure what he brings to the table.

I'd like him to succeed, but I don't think he's got enough Arrows in the Quiver right now.

Gallagher, unfortunately not up to it. Some dead set sitter's were dropped which went the other way for Goals. We cannot sustain that with a currently weak defence.

For Mine :

In : Dolan/Garcia ( If Fit ), Jacques, JOD ( if Fit )/ Croft
Out : Gags, Timmy, McNeil

Long Term ( and this may be the year to retool ) I'd love to see Zac Walker in the side when available.

He and the Man Himself - Sellwood - would form a ripping combo across half back.

Anyways, Woof.

McNeil and VDM are the established whipping boys in that small forward role but far out they’re a level about Gags. You just cannot be as fumbly and wasteful as he’s been and keep playing.

Oliver G do you have his expected scores from the last 2 weeks. His chances have been:
  1. Freo: 35m set shot, prob less than 30 degree angle, early in game so not fatigued
  2. Freo: limited pressure snap from 15m out (opposite foot) that didn’t even make the distance and rushed but credited a behind
  3. Port: fluffed chance from about 15m at the start of the 3rd. Watching again the handball from Lewis was shocking but still should have been a decent chance
  4. Port: soccer off the ground in the 4th was such a low percentage play with Lachie Jones covering the goal square anyway.
  5. Check-side to get the winning point - like all of the above ex the set shot he rushed it but understandable in this instance. Right call to guarantee the behind vs take longer to improve the angle and risk getting nothing
The weren’t all complete gimme’s despite the combined distance of #2-5 above being about 40m but you have to be getting 2-3 of them.

Didn't Beveridge say both unlikely

Bevo says a lot of things in the post game press conferences that often don't come true haha. I've learned he pours cold water on player availability in these maybe to keep expectations low and then we find during the week that JOD goes through full training and was always expected to play against Carlton. I think if he says he expects them back and maybe they aren't quite ready, then everything thinks there's been a big setback and he gets more questions about it, so plays it down to start.

JOD himself said to Stevo at the Dockers game that he should be back for Carlton. May need another week, but did some full training already last week, will probably have a big running session today and all going well I think he puts his hand up for selection Thursday.

I thought Jaques omission was pretty harsh and I know he didn’t play great in the VFL last week but his exposed AFL form is above some of those selected. Bramble to move to half forward / wing where he started the season and played his best football

English out means we’re going to have to go back to Emmett or Croft. Had this choice a few weeks ago against Sydney, I leant towards Emmett because I thought his ruck work would be more advanced. Not sure if that’s actually true but one of them will have to come in

Going to assume JOD isn’t back. Will be an interesting call on who he comes in for if he is fit. He is obviously one of the first selected. Over the last two weeks I’d say Coffield has been the best, Khamis second best, Busslinger third best but it will be a tough call. Buss really needs an extended run of games to see if he is up for it or not, he’s played enough VFL that I don’t think he is going to develop much more at that level. Buku has played well when not tasked with the big banana’s so should stay in if he is able to go back to second fiddle, Coffield hasn’t done much wrong since coming back but might be last in, first out

Would have preferred Hynes staying in the VFL for a while (I know they have another bye this week). Don’t think he is ready for AFL level. Not sure him switching between teams every week helps his development at all. Maybe stay in this week but think he needs a good run of form in the VFL to get his mojo back

B: Coffield, Khamis, Busslinger
HB: Dale, Sellwood, Budarick

R: Smith, Kennedy, Richards
C: Williams, Bont, Bramble

HF: Jones, West, Freijah
F: Croft, Naughton, Lewis

I: Jaques, Sanders, Baker, McNeil, Hynes

Out: English, Gallagher
In: Croft, Jaques

Unfortunately I can't see anyone coming back from injury.
Out. English, Gags and Hynes
In. Emmett, Croft and Jaques

Bramble moves forward, Jaques gets HB and wing time.
Smith ruck bench 50/50 with Emmett and Croft sharing the ruck/forward role.

A prime reason why we need a vomit reaction

None of Gallagher, McNeill or Hynes deserve a game but who do we have to bring in.

Assuming Lobb, JOD are not fit

It is Emmett or Croft, Jacques, Cleary and maybe Treloar if not stick with Hynes,

English out is an absolute disaster. Never thought I'd ever say this, but with no good back up rucks, he's out most important player. Gallagher I have harped on for 2 years now, not an AFL standard player and unfortunately never will be.

Out english gags
In jod/lobb/croft (depending availability) jacques

Still going to be short Darcy, English, JOD, Trelor, Libba, Lobb, Croft, Weightman and VDM through injury. And Garcia maybe. That still a huge number.

Expect for Carltank:

Outs: English, Gags. McNeil

Ins: Gardner, Jacques, Dolan/Davidson/Walker.

Gardner (just need the experience and some big bodies - also gives a chop out in ruck), Jacques (like Baker - thought he was stiff to be dropped and is skilled) and Dolan - Just better than alternatives.

Would also / play Khamis forward unless Gards in the Ruck. We need to get Khamis’s confidence back marking and he raises his ceiling if he can forwards and play a true swing. We also haven’t had a good mid forward for ages and this could be it. This was dine in VFL games and he was fantastic - also rotates with Coffield.

Alternatively - play Davidson in this role - give him a job to be the mobile medium forward.

Hynes actually started showing things in the last quarter both with good hands and by blocking for Naughton.

Alternatively I would bring in Walker to play the same role - he has something - watch the VFL finals - he just lifted.

Looks like this:

West Lewis Khamis

Jones Naughton Hynes

Baker Red Williams

Smith Bont Sanders

Dale Busslinger Buderick

Sellwood Gardner Coffield

Int: Friejah, Kennedy, Bramble, [Walker (debut) or Davidson], Jacques

Of course Emmett likely - less ng term probably better than Carlton but given their list - I think Gards would be better right now.

It’s great to remember what this will look like at the end of the year:

West Lewis Weightman

Jones Naughton Khamis

Baker Red Williams
English Bont Libba

Dale Lobb Buderick

Coffield JOD Sellwood

Int: Friejah, Kennedy, Trelor; Croft:Buss (depending on if Lobb is second ruck - Buss can go straight in or Lhamis goes back) and hopefully VDM

Anyone concerned about Brambles form?

Yeah I think his lack of a clear role has affected him a little this season. With Jaques, Budarick etc coming in early on, he got pushed up to the wing and in forward roles which he has tried hard in, but not as suited to. I'm sure he would prefer to just sit at half back, but for us to improve and him to stay in the best 23, he might have to add a new string to his bow.

Tim out is a disaster, but this week is a decent match up for in the ruck for Lachie all things considered. Pittonet is a solid ruck and strong, but it's not a Jackson, Gawn or Grundy etc who would give him fits trying to limit their influence around the ground also. Similar size to Lachie and will have him on strength, but it's a battle where he can set himself to try and nullify in the ruck contest like he has had to do against a similar ruck in Crossley at VFL level a few times. Pitto has kicked a few goals this year, I believe a few from inside 50 ruck contests so will need to be weary of that, but with a few games under his belt now, I'm really interest to see how Lachie takes on this challenge.

Yeah agreed, so long as it’s only 1 week we’ll be fine.

If it’s 2, well we’ll lose to Melbourne

Bramble is a terrible half back, downright terrible. It just makes zero sense to still be playing him there when we have Jacques in the 2s and guys like Gallagher at HFF/wing. It’s not ****ing rocket science ffs

Or Cleary?

Gallagher has had 6 shots for the year, kicking 1 goal, with a Shot Rating of -1.36 (score per shot minus expected score per shot) and is ranked 270/276 in the competition for Shot Rating (minimum 5 shots)
