Nah I’m done, Bevo is cooked and genuinely sucks. Typical Bevo shit, it’s what he does best.

Smith & Lobb 50/50 is so obviously the ONLY option we have. Even if Smith only rucks off the bench he offers far more than Emmett anywhere

This is genuinely crazy stuff but whose surprised

I think 2.46 is over the odds genuine 50/50 contest. Harry could be a big worry with most likely Buss to play on him and Lobb in the ruck. However., we do have the best player in form and maybe a bit less banged up.

They've only won once for the year. Think 2.50ish is fair

They shouldn't be taken lightly. They've played two good quarters pretty much each game, eventually you'd think they'd play four good quarters and maybe the dead cat bounce will be the week, but it's still not a game we should be losing

This is absolutely a line in the sand.Bevo gave an assessment of a young player publically then contradicted it with his actions. The result on Saturday will be judge and jury .

But I read all those posts saying Smith won us the game with his Gawn-like 6 disposal BOG performance last week?…

People keep arguing with me and being surprised but I’ve said for weeks our coaches don’t want to waste the backup ruck role on a bloke that can only be used in the ruck or on the bench.

I feel for Emmett, he's a player that needs 70% TOG so that he can work his way into a game and we aren't giving him that chance. Should we have kept Smith for another week and played Lobb as a forward rotating in the ruck?

Having only one senior recognised ruckman on a 40ish player list is seriously threatening our season. Would love to know the reasoning behind that decision. Draper and Mason Cox changing clubs this season and we were nowhere to be seen. Either would be very handy at the moment.

In terms of our ruck selection, I need to come to terms with the fact that I see things differently to Bevo.

Smith's biggest issue is that he can't cover the ground, there were multiple stoppages last week we didn't have a ruck because Smith was still trying to get to the contest. Pretty sure that was his nail in the coffin (at least for a while), given that our entire system is based on winning the stoppage game.

Haha I'm not sure if Bevo selections is the basis
I'd want my argument to fall on. I agree that Bevo doesn't want a one dimensional ruck, he's been coach for a very long time and we know his preferences. If you could give me an idea of what Emmett has offered apart from being on the bench or in the ruck id be grateful

They both have played essentially the same TOG. The only stat Emmett leads Smith on is marks (1.5 to 1). Neither have taken a contested mark. Smith leads intercept marks for the season 1 to 0

So we waste it on a bloke who can't be used anywhere?

I'll tell you this - opposition coaches will be targeting Emmet . Every time he is in the ruck they'll be coaching to go right through him & use that precious time to move the ball forward directly.

Sad to say, every second Emmet spends in the ruck will be a win for Carlton.

And if Smith is playing they'll be coaching to expose him around the ground (and to jump over him in the ruck). I really think Smith V Emmett is very marginal to our chances. Sure he needed to play if Lobb didn't get up, but he did.

100% this. When I saw him fail to make it to a few ball-ups last week against Port I knew he would be dropped this week. It's a shame for him because as far as opposition number 1 rucks go I think Pittonet would be one of the better match ups for him.
I really like Emmett as a long term player and I hope he has a great game on Saturday night

It's in some ways marginal between them.

But we're lucky we picked Smith last week. He halved contests against Sweet where Emmett would have been a total nonfactor. He had a pretty significant part to play.

Not that you really plan around your players getting injured, but we're selecting a 33 year old coming straight off a hamstring injury - if the plan is to even play Lobb in the ruck. Assume it is, but dog only knows with Bevo. Some Buku or Lewis ruck minutes wouldn't surprise me, unless Lobb is going to have a surprisingly high ToG.

Having that redundancy saved us last week...So the difference between Smith and Emmett was not so marginal in other ways.

Not to confuse any of this with their long term prospects as players, obviously Emmett has a much higher ceiling. But we've played this script out with Tim himself, "fast tracking" him cost us wins.

Kind of have to get a ruck in the midseason draft at this point if we're done with Smith though.

It’s not the basis for my argument, it just confirms it.

Go and watch his first two VFL games and first 3 AFL games.

The gap between Emmett and Smith in the ruck is substantially smaller than this board would like to believe and Emmett has a lot more other facets to his game. It’s a good trade off for 23rd man back up ruck role.

The only thing I really don't agree with is that we are killing Emmett's confidence. He is a real competitor, fit and strong for a 19 year old and would be dying to get a recall back into the AFL team. If you think that being asked to play a small bit role as a ruck / fwd at AFL level at this stage of the year will kill his confidence and hurt his development, then he won't make it at this level.
