In: McGovern, Sheed, Ryan, Jones
Out: Witherden, Waterman, Winder (inj), Nelson

Backs: Barrass, Edwards, Gov, Hurn, Duggan, Hough, Jones
Mids: Kelly, Shuey, Redden, Sheed, Gaff, Foley (wings)
Rucks: Williams, Jamieson
Forwards: Kennedy, Darling, Ryan, Cripps, SPS, West, Clark
Sub: Nelson
Emergencies: Naish, Waterman, Witherden

Waterman and Witherden have had a couple of poor games in a row, time for a spell.

Edwards survives because of Geelong’s tall forwards, his form’s been poor as well.

Rioli can have a run in the WAFL to get some fitness. There’s a lot of mids resting forward though.

Culley a chance to debut the following week against Essendon.

Not getting too far ahead, I would like to see Sheed, Culley, Rioli and Ryan all play WAFL next week. Throw in Rotham, Naish and Foley and let’s see if we can get a win?

Those that perform will be considered for the Cats game.

I watched the WAFL game yesterday and Sheed was ok, but obviously still not match fit. Not sure if one more week will be enough. But couldn’t be any worse than some getting a game?

Wouldn’t surprise me if Yeo looked elsewhere in the post-season and frankly I wouldn’t be opposed to it if we got something good in return. Just seems like neither party is feeling the love

He signed a new contract in the off season. He had an excellent pre season and was primed for round 1, unfortunately that injury has derailed things. Then coming back getting concussed + COVID. He should be back in soon after the bye and I think he will be fine 👍

FB [25] Shannon Hurn,[37] Tom Barrass,[14] Liam Duggan

HB [23] Alex Witherden,[20]Jeremy McGovern,[31] Jamaine Jones

C [3] Andrew Gaff,[8] Jack Redden, [43] Patrick Naish

HF [15] Jamie Cripps,[27] Jack Darling, [13] Luke Shuey

FF [2] Jake Waterman,[17] Josh J. Kennedy,[10] Sam Petrevski-Seton

FOL [32] Bailey J. Williams,[39] Greg Clark, [11] Tim Kelly

IC [19] Brady Hough,[4] Dom Sheed,[36] Connor West,[40] Callum Jamieson

Out - Harry Edwards, Isiah Winder, Jackson Nelson, Luke Foley

In - Jeremy McGovern, Dom Sheed, Jamaine Jones, Patrick Naish

Ryan and Willy to go back through WAFL to build up fitness. (We really need them but no point if well under done)
Due to this SPS forced forward with mid rotation.

Clark at the coalface.

Duggan BP with JJ creative HB.

If you’re looking for a ruck to win a hit out you’d be picking Strnadica. Then if you want a fwd / ruck to bob up and kick a goal or 2 our best bet is Dixon.

Won’t happen though.

Think the only ones to come in will be McGovern, Sheed and Ryan.

Just so people know Edwards got a knock on his knee and a heavy cork in yesterdays game, don't be surprised if he needs a rest even if we want to keep him in the team with Gov back.

To be the devils advocate:
Duggan is WAFL ready at best on form. Foley hade a better crack and looked good in open play. I know he was bad but he wasa lot better than Duggan.
Waterman is worse than Duggan. He is aiumlessly woandering the field like a dementia patient. On one occasion the Crows had a free so plonked himself on his absolute own 15-20m in frot of the mark - they are not going to kich it to you jake. Retire.
JK needs to put his feet up. Ant big y guy that crashes into people will be a better option.
The cats defence will decimate the likes of waterman and JK.
Sheed isnt match fit - not sure two weeks will be enough

I like the others as best options but I can see the big cat forwards having a field day - we dont have the match up capable.
I would keep Hough on the wing and have Naish on the bench.

That was clear on the broadcast. He isnt ready though (may never be) - if he plays it is for development and we accept that.

I think Duggan would be better playing as a deeper defender not as a HB. I'd like someone who has a bit more pace. That's why I moved him to BP.

Waterman I don't think was that bad. We don't really have a viable replacement for both Kennedy and Waterman at the moment.
Dixon I suppose could come in for Kennedy but I'm not sold.

Sheed - I didn't watch the game but statistically it looks like he's improved again this week and is probably ready.

I also thought more than 4 changes may have been a bit too much. I really wanted more run and players in positions relative to their strengths.
Other players I want in are too underdone. (when match fit) I'd also try out new role for Ryan and attacking HBF/off back of square.

I'd have Hough rotating wing/HBF.

What would be your team for next week mate?

They nursed Yeo back slowly from his concussion and then he goes looking to get punched in the head ..Moron should have been made to play last week ..

Sheed was dominant in the first half yesterday for the Beagles, nearly every disposal opened the play up for us with a damaging kick or handball. He would’ve been BOG at that stage I think. Then it was a combination of the Swannies putting more work into him and him running out of puff a bit after that. He’ll be playing against Geelong you’d imagine.

Petrucelle was the other standout in the first half but he came off the ground after halftime. Hopefully he plays a full match against Claremont next weekend.

Suspect they’ll be fairly conservative given the pretty high likelihood Geelong posts a cricket score whatever we do:

In: Gov, Sheed
Out: Edwards, Winder (inj)

Jones not enough credits, Yeo suspended/unfit, Ryan and Willie to get a couple of games in the twos.

There were talks a month back he may need a 3rd surgery on his knee .

I assume with our injury list he has opted to play though it until later in the season .
We are very thin down back for small / medium defenders .

Sheppard retired
Cole injured
Jones concussion and only played defence for a month
Witherden - snail
Nelson - hack
Hurn - geriatric
Hough - green horn
Rotham - shadow of the player he was

As I mentioned somewhere I would use the coming WAFL game as a selection trial. The only exception would be those that busted a gut agains the Crows and a few reality irreplaceable players.
Geelong have two very unique and dangerous key forwards we don't match up on well. Gov if fit and Barrass have to play as does Hurn to organise the defence.

Their mids are tough but slow so we have opportunities, I like Clark in the midfield and Gaff on the wing with Hough on the other wing. If the fool Yoe is fit and available I would play him on the provide he goes close to being reported. We just need grunt. Sheed not ready.
Geelong's other strength is their tall and organised defence so we must have aerial power to make the most fo any opportunity - or bring the ball to ground. Tough but if it is agreed, noting it is delicate for the club, probably Dixon to FF and rest JK. Dixon has good hands which darling doesn't usually. Willie is a key if available -no other player is as dangerous on the ground crumbing or setting up scores. I assume Ryan is not ready. Petro is interesting for pace but I am not sold on him. Forwards have to be able to apply pressure so Cripps stays.

I am keen to see, if they go well in the WAFL, one of Williams or Culley to replace Waterman as they look to have smarts, ability and some overhead power.
In defence I would look as Basso who looks to have a bit or run and attack that may worry the cats.

Generally I think we must aim to be competitive enough to give hope and grow confidence but also build for the future. There is a subtle narrative to the old boys that time for change is here, and to the up and combers that it is their era to be the man. Seize the moment.

I would play rioli if available....really don't think fitness for rioli playing in the wafl or afl is going to matter much for him . As he plays a similar sort of role would rather his silky skills in our forward line rather than wafl.

Edwards I agree with ....even though he is down I would keep him in with geelongs twin towers

Agree with Culley would be fantastic to see him this week...but the bumbers is the go for me
