Jack Williams is two years from being ready for AFL. He is not an athletic beast but could be a very, very powerful full forward with good hands. Think along the lines of the Q-stick but with a straighter kick and better hands. Will be a quality AFL player but not a superstar. Josh Bruce may be a better comparison.

Bazzo will be a third tall intercept defender. Again he's no superstar athletically but reads the ball so well, good hands and a good kick. Again 2 years away from being ready.

Culley is nowhere near a game. Hasn't played a single game against men yet.

Yeo even if he gets off his report is nowhere near match fit particularly for the midfield. If he gets off and plays a good game this coming weekend he can take a defensive position. Preferably Witherdens.

Naish, Witherden, Jones,B.Williams to me all aren't quite AFL level as well as a few others.
Naish's disposal particularly under pressure doesn't stand up. He could develop and surprise but i'm now struggling to see it.
Witherden is too slow, a horrendous defender and while a good kick he is not a hugely penetrating kick. I don't see how he succeeds at AFL level.
Jones TBH is a failed midfielder. He may become a roleplayer but he is undisciplined and is also a ball butcher although is very athletic.
Williams as a ruckman will never be more than a second ruck and TBH as a forward he is horrendous. His kicking just isn't up to standard and it's a shame as otherwise he could be a good second ruck. I'm not sure he's fast enough to be a key defender and again, the kicking.
Trew isn't AFL quality and won't be. No standout qualities. Quality state level footballer.
Rotham also potentially on this list now. Has everything required apart from 1 thing. Footy IQ. He is so slow making any decisions and just doesn't seem to have any improvement there.
West isn't good enough at the coalface to be a lead mid, his skills are poor and is completely one sided. Could he be a pressure forward?
Nelson isn't a HBF and isn't a midfielder. He is a whipping boy around here but with a little polish could be a B grade back pocket. When not under pressure is at least a long, penetrating kick.
Waterman just doesn't seem to have a role. He's not big enough, strong or agile enough to be a key forward, gets lost further up the ground and is prone to making poor decisions. If he played 25 years ago could have been a good FF.
Langdon isn't afl quality, never will be and is just holding a spot ready to delist next season.
Exxon isn't afl quality. He's not good enough as a mid and has no weapons. Again potentially a very good state league player.
Joyce gone
Strnadica doesn't necessarily provide anymore than Bailey Williams or Jamieson at this point and if he doesn't by the end of the season needs to be delisted.
Jamieson. Is 3 AFL preseasons away from being a ruckman and is very good at ground level and helping out the mids. Not sure he can lead a ruck division into the future with players getting taller and taller and taller. If he could develop a secondary position as a Key defender could well make it. Will the club give him the 3 preseasons he needs to potentially get there.

That's 13 players who are either now or never will be AFL standard in a top 4 side plus we need to see Clark and SPS on ball to see if they can make it there otherwise they are just list cloggers as well. Plus the retirees at the end of this year and next. At least we should definitely have list space to take the picks and develop youth.

Outs: Winder (injured), Witherden, Edwards, Rotham, Kennedy, Waterman.
In: Mcgovern, Sheed, Yeo (at HB), Dixon, Jones (back) and Petch.

They're our only options really until Rioli and Ryan are fixed and match fit.

Wouldn’t surprise me if Yeo looked elsewhere in the post-season and frankly I wouldn’t be opposed to it if we got something good in return. Just seems like neither party is feeling the love

Pretty hard to feel the love when you barely play a game for years

Dunno why this is in the changes thread, but I'd add Dixon to the list of players who are candidates to be delist material at the end of the year.
Not confident enough to hold onto marks and assert himself up forward, and hasn't really had a standout performance yet.

Personally think he will work great in tandom with nicnat.

All very logical. Unfortunately we need to think quite long term. We are better losing with good kids getting experience rather than losing with eventual delistings getting a game. The issue is balance of course and not over loading kids, the wisdom of Solomon is required.
I should add, that for club morale, gooid performanced in the Beagles must be rewarded with a game in the seniors. For this reason the WAFL must be seen as selection trials. It is so important that players know there is hope for them.

Dixon is a better forward than all our other ruck options but he is the worst ruck out of the lot . Too short and poor ruck craft .
May as well just use Clark like they did on the week end at centre bounce

Yeo going the "people's elbow" is hardly helping. I doubt he will be playing next week in the WAFL which is less than ideal preparation for Geelong.

Soft report which will hopefully get thrown out. Yeo is entitled to remonstrate after the campaigner took eyes off the footy cannoned full on into his midrift.

Depends what we'd get for him.
I would expect next to nothing as he hasn't shown any consistent form since his OP in 2020. I doubt we would be open to trading him, he needs to suck it up and get back to speed. He's getting paid good money for nearly two years of not doing much.

I don’t see how Foley gets a free pass. He just looks terrible as a HBF. No awareness, energy or creativity. he played half a game in the midfield and was ok but hasn’t even looked like an AFL player. I’d like to see Joyce play before you just discard him. He looked good in the preseason game and was highly regarded in draft year

Joyce is WAFL level fodder and surplus to requirements with Clark and West on the list. It’s probably the same reason we overlooked Florenca in the MSD (and two weeks of Tom Cole of course).

Foley has regressed since his initial burst but is worth persevering with as depth for now.

To be fair - the current spate of results is not conducive with steady development of inexperienced defenders. Harry Edwards is another in the same boat.

Unfortunately with Shepard gone and Hurn winding down the lack of growth from Barrass, Duggan, Nelson and Rotham has meant guys like Foley and Edwards are being thrown to the wolves before their time.

First game back after a few weeks out, comes in as a late change, surely that gets him a free pass.

He’s had good games in the backline in the past, looking poised and assured. Saying he’s never looked like an AFL player is harsh, and short-memoried.

There were talks a month back he may need a 3rd surgery on his knee .

I assume with our injury list he has opted to play though it until later in the season .
We are very thin down back for small / medium defenders .

Sheppard retired
Cole injured
Jones concussion and only played defence for a month
Witherden - snail
Nelson - hack
Hurn - geriatric
Hough - green horn
Rotham - shadow of the player he was
One of my frustrations (with backline in general) with the small/medium defenders is can we just get 1 that shuts down their opponent.

We like to have drive off HB but it seems to be at the cost of stopping anyone.

When your midfield isn't applying any pressure the defence is going to get smashed .

Agree with you, but 'free pass' sounds dangerously close to 'credits in the bank' for this forum, I suspect:);)

Time to draw a line in the sand.
Time to flog the team we humbled in two gf.
Geelong can not win a games after a bye, their oldies take a week to get back to speed.
They will be wanting bruise free football.
Time for some bruises to be dealt out.
40+ probably paying $26, thank me later.
Doesn’t matter who we pick.

Just on jack Williams he is closing in on 2m tall was 195cms last year when drafted and still growing . Not even 19 until the end on the year.

Josh Bruce is an undersized key forward like darling .

Jack Williams is not overly quick but not slow either . What he does have is a massive tank already .

Your right about being 2 + years away but once he fills out he will be more that Hawkins type power forward to complement allen the more athletic forward .

Jack is already kicking at least a goal a game in league as an 18 year old to go with 5 marks and 8-10 hitouts .

Really promising signs
