Cameron doesn't go, anyone suggesting that must be high.
It'll be Greenwood for Thommo.
Milera stays in. He doesn't get a lot of ball but he's all class.

Eventually Lynch comes back probably for D Mac and I'd like to see Seed and Doedee but won't hold my breath. Otten and Kelly were very solid all night so deserve their spot.

Some faith, not all was restored last night. Let's hope we payback Melbourne next week.

I have to say, I usually get shitty at selection blunders like most of us. But let's be honest, I don't know the players as well as the coaching staff would. But if Scott Thompson is not dropped for Hugh Greenwood next week I will go bananas

Pyke has already stated Greenwood will be back in, coaches got it right resting a player and coming away with a 10 goal win

You would know more about it than me, but doesnt that sort of thing place a lot of stress on muscle tissue?

I saw Lynch a few days ago. Seemed up and about.

You think he would be fine will wait and see if he's up and about and back training he would be pushing to be back in the team you would think as if he had two to three off he will need to come back through the two s one or two off and he might come straight back in

Lynch won't be holding back its pretty hard to grab a spot in the team will we be unbalanced with lynch gov tex and JJ upfront

11 touches is not enough for Milera's class to have an impact on the game

Pretty rough mentioning Mackay in the same sentence as Thommo. 72% TOG as a full time stoppage midfielder and he only just cracks double figures by picking up 2 late one's in the last couple of minutes. Deduct his 5 free kicks from his disposals and it's probably one of the worst games of football played by a full time mid in the last 20 years. Disgusting selection, disgusting performance and what's even worse is that he's a lock for next week. Now he's in, guess what? You can't drop Thommo, he's a warrior and he makes us better even when he can't run or get his hands on the ball. We got smashed in clearances which is why this liability was selected. But guaranteed, his name is penned in for at least a month whilst Greenwood gets to re-prove himself in the 2's.
Pretty spot on but I think he was in for the week only.

True for now but he's a second year player and demonstrates enough that we need to stay patient.
He will need a reset soon but he's worth the investment

We are on top we need our strongest team this year

Not a babysitting service when we drop down the ladder in a few years time we can worry about the rebuild

That's a donkey comment.
It's precisely this time when you bring your future stars with you so when the time comes they're ready to take the next step and have had a smooth transition.
Who's to say he isn't in the strongest team right now either?
Who is beating down the door for his spot?
Not Seed, not Menzel, not Gallucci or Poholke. He deserves his spot and he's only going to get better by playing at the top level.

Would like to see:-
Out
Thompson (omitted)

In
Greenwood

Would also like to see Doedee be given a run, but unsure who to drop for him.

What I think might happen:-
No change to a winning side.

The afl will ensure with the way drafting is set up that the comp evolves there is a time to develop and a time to capitalise

We are presently on top have you got a problem with where we sit and when we should be capitalising

The coaches will find the right mix have you got a problem with them, if you have you might want to see if they can get us any higher up the ladder

I don't understand any of this. You've just gone on a brand new tangent. Too early to be bothered

I called him to come in after our soft performance against the hawks I was totally surprised by the greenwood Thommo call but looks as though it wasn't a bad one given they wanted Greenwood rested

So some stupid thread questioning selection seems quite irrelevant

The coaches and selection committee can only be judged on results

Where are we on the ladder? Best in bizz by the look of it

Back to the old, "we're top of the ladder, so the selectors get everything right". Good one Marty, that's pretty funny, being top won't help us when we have to win 3 straight in September against sides that bring a lot more heat than the Bulldogs showed last night. And you reckon bringing in a 34 year old who is fully cooked was a good selection because we won. That's a pretty stupid view, even for you.

This would never happen but something I'd love to see:

Out:
Thompsons reanimated corpse
Douglas

In:
Greenwood
seedsman

Seedsman to half back and either Smith or Laird through the midfield. Would love to see those guys in the engine room.

I shouldn't be surprised that people are still saying Pyke did the right thing selecting thommo cos we won by 10 goals.

What a waste of a game that could have gone to any of our kids - yet again pisssing away games on has beens.

Fancy getting a few games into our youngsters in case we need them for the finals.

Looks like we are hell bent on winning the title for the club who plays the least amount of players for the year again.

First out for me is Douglas - he's been terrible all year, has no impact. I'd have him out before Mackay.

But then I'd have Mackay out - last night was Mackay's career in one game.
First Quarter - average; not bad, not great, but just passable.
Second quarter - the high pressure quarter where the Dogs came at us; ZERO TOUCHES, ZERO IMPACT. that's Mackay in high pressure games.
Third Quarter - once we got on top and opened it up, he was alright.
Fourth Quarter - game over, had his best Quarter.

Enough is enough with him. Got ragdolled a few times, broken tackles, his usual few shanks, why do we bother?

Milera - still rate him, but down on confidence and form; let him go dominate the SANFL for a while, it'll be good for him.

Cameron - I'm with Kane GW; something not right with him. I don't know if I'd drop him, but I'm concerned.

Thommo - deserved to go out on a high... last year. I still love him, but last night was karma; he should've had the balls and self awareness to call it last year.

Otten - I still have my concerns about being too slow; but if we can tidy up our midfield with the above (how good was Knight!); he played very well last night. If he's in, it has to be as a defender only - remember his debut season he came second in the Rising Star as a Bassett/Maxwell type.

Not 100% on Kelly either, but he was fantastic last night.

So my outs are;

Douglas
Thommo
Milera
Mackay

Gotta go in full strength and get revenge against the Demons,.. we had them on toast last time then coughed it up and got steamrolled.. this time needs to be ruthless.. first place to start.. being ruthless at the selection table.

Out -
Thompson(ommitted)- Absolutely love the bloke,. but sadly I think he is done - Club legend. Expect him to hang up the boots.
Douglas(ommited) - needs to find form, has been average for 5-6 weeks.
Cameron(ommitted) - needs a spell in the SANFL for 1-2 weeks just to find full fitness and full form in my opinion. Will return better from a break.
Brown(inj) - needs a rest, seems to spend time on the bench getting medical attention everytime he plays these days. No SANFL footy, just a week off.

In -
Greenwood - Great idea to rest him (not for my supercoach team though!) will be fresh and hungry next week against the demons.
Poholke - Deserves a chance at the big level. Can play forward / midfield so could be a great alternative for Douglas.
Doedee - Deserves a chance at the big level also. Straight swap for Brown, dying to see what this kid can do at AFL level. Please play him!

Lynch - If he is fit and healthy,. he plays, no question about it obviously. If he needs another week don't rush him back.
OR
Jarman/Galucci - Both seem to have popped up in the best & goals most weeks for the past 5-6 matches, give them a taste of footy this year,. then replace with Lynch/Cameron when both fit.

No, that's a quality well thought out post.

Bickley on AA yesterday before the game:
"The criticism of Thommo has been his ability to cover the ground and spread. When the ball’s out in the open, can he defend against opposition sides? There’ll be some opportunities to see that tonight. It’ll be interesting.
“If he plays really well then it sets up a bit of dilemma -- does he stay in or does he go straight back out.”
https://www.fiveaa.com.au/shows/dav...y-with-the-BIG-TIP-following-shock-Crows-move
The criticism was well founded. There is no dilemma

Yep I think Otten is a better player than Hartigan, seems a smart user of the ball. Hartigan just has waaaay too many brain fades. Think we've got our defensive lineup sorted for the time being.
We need to replace Thommo.
Possibly Milera and Douglas if they don't improve. Seed will be pushing and possibly even Menzel for Douglas's role.

How is Menzel mentioned before Gallucci or Poholke. Surely SANFL form counts.
If you've watched Menzel lately his form has been very ordinary. He left Carlton two years ago that is not a recent form line.

May give Wigg and Cheney time to prove themselves in the twos and hope for an injury if everyone plays the way they did tonight Harto better hope otten loses firm or he will struggle to get a gig

What three years is not enough to see that Wigg deserves a chance. Earlier this year he was a stand out in the SANFL and until injured his form was sound. Sure he needs to demonstrate he's OK after his injury but Wigg on previous history would need to get 60 plus touches.
Pyke and Campo would then need to ask a water boy, "who is the blonde haired kid over there?'

Coaches got it wrong even if we won by 50 goals. It was the wrong decision before the game and its still the wrong decision.

Thommo being a non factor just confirms that further.

Managing a bloke thats 25 after we had a break a few weeks back. Dumb stuff.

If he's injured say so. Club lucky it didnt effect the result.

Thommo out and not to return.
