We just had a bye how did we leave it late
Melbourne, Geelong, Collingwood , Port , Essendon and West Coast

When do we ''rest'' players against that quality

Collingwood and Essendon may have their seasons done and dusted but you are only going to freshen up for finals after the bye it was a big call to rest greenwood and every game is in important

Time will tell would you rest the week before the bye at season end aswell

I am not the one calling for a rest. I think its too late. You might get the Collingwood game at a stretch but you are right. The Essendon game is so close to the Finals Bye why bother.

Am I the only thinks were going to have selection issues in the next couple of weeks.

Thomo for Thor - Easy
If Seed plays a good game i'd be replacing Mackay with the Seed by the Cats game
Lynch might get up for Dees or should get up for Cats so who goes out?

Lynch definetly won't be fit for the Dees. Is 2 to 3 off playing in the firsts imo. I think Milera may need a rest, so would like to see gooch/polky gets some games. Brown may need a rest too if he is banged up from tonight so Doedee could also get a run. Reckon the coach will want to see seed deliver 3 or 4 good performances before they drop their beloved mackay. Mackay did some good things but his goal kicking is below average. Team functioned better without Hartigan also.

I'm on record as saying I would never play Otten in the same defence as Lever and Talia, and I stand by it. That said, credit to Otten as he was very good tonight and there's therefore no point in talking about dropping him. Stays in.

I thought Kelly's spot in the side was hanging by a thread before tonight too. He put that to bed with a great performance. Took a couple of marks tonight that I didn't know he had in him. The hit on Honeychurch set the tone for the remainder of the game too. Stays in.

Mackay is another who I would not be selecting, well, ever. While I thought his game was pretty "meh", it was actually significantly better than what he serves up most weeks (high praise indeed). The amount of space the Dogs gave him was laughable at times. He didn't really capitalise on this, but he wasn't in our worst few performers on the night so he'll get another gig next week. Stays in.

The worst 3 players, and therefore the only 3 who will be considered to be axed, were undoubtedly Thompson, Cameron and Milera.

Thompson proved beyond any doubt that he is not up to AFL standard anymore. He gave away at least 4 clumsy frees, he got the ball 10 times for the entire match, and he did the square root of **** all with it on 7 or 8 of those 10 occasions. The one where he was caught holding the ball just forward of centre as we were surging forward was quite unbelievable really. He literally walked into the tackle. OUT.

I'm a big fan of Milera because his foot skills are nothing short of elite, but he is crying out for a "freshening" in the SANFL. He's young, he's skinny, he's not yet capable of playing more than about a dozen quality AFL games in a row. Needs to be managed accordingly. Must return in a maximum of 3 weeks assuming he finds form, but this week, OUT.

Cameron is obviously a weapon when at his best, but boy oh boy gee whiz wowee he looks shot mentally at the moment. Needs to regain confidence at state league level. Whether you want to call that being dropped or being managed is up to you. Another who must return within the next few weeks, but OUT against the Dees for mine.

My changes are as follows:

Out: Thompson (omitted / retired), Milera (managed), Cameron (omitted / managed)

In: Greenwood (offers far more than Thommo and hopefully the week off has freshened him up), Seedsman (has precision foot skills like Milera but unlike Milera at this stage, can defend when required), Gallucci (clearly an explosive athlete, let's give him a chance to explode. Strikes me as a guy who will handle big occasions well too)

Realistically, I'm fully aware that we will either go in unchanged or make an absolute maximum of 2 unforced changes. More than likely there'll only be one.

And look, maybe the trip to Darwin will be the best tonic possible for the two struggling indigenous lads. I suspect both Milera and Cameron will probably travel up for the game and at least one, possibly both, will play.

Surely that was a pseudo farewell for Thommo tonight though? He was a new level of bad. It's sad to see a former elite of the comp who clearly can't accept that his time is up. Selecting him for this Darwin game on the back of that performance tonight is absolute nonsense IMO.

Beyond next week, I'd like to see Doedee trialled in Otten / Hartigan's spot at some stage before Round 20, and obviously Lynch should return in the next couple of weeks which puts additional pressure on the fringe players who I've already mentioned.

Thommo only out unless there are injuries

I presume that you were pretty happy with the hardness that he brought around the contest? Was a real difference maker in there. I'm not sure that we've ever had a worse result for clearances and contested possessions. And you've been calling for him to come in for weeks.

That silence from Bruce when Thommo got caught holding the ball...

Combined with the most rudimentary pick up and handball to a player 2m away got a, "Thommo, briiillllliaaaaant". And as he clocked up hist 7th touch 5 minutes into the last quarter, we got something like, "Thommo, he's done enough, hasn't he?"

No Bruce, you senile old fool, he hasn't done enough, he hasn't come close to do enough. A lock down tagger gets more of the ball and doesn't give 50% of their disposals back in free kicks and actually has a defensive impact on the contest.

Not sure how or if it will influence the selections but it will be warm and humid next week. Teams often fumble a lot, similar to wet weather footy with the oval still in good condition. Some young legs would be handy.
I would love to see Thommo again, but I think his time has passed unless he is used to clear some space for Sloane. Still amazes me we don't take every opportunity to put the tagger on the ground. Particularly Bernie who is not as young as he once was.

I called him to come in after our soft performance against the hawks I was totally surprised by the greenwood Thommo call but looks as though it wasn't a bad one given they wanted Greenwood rested

So some stupid thread questioning selection seems quite irrelevant

The coaches and selection committee can only be judged on results

Where are we on the ladder? Best in bizz by the look of it

Will be about 32 degrees up in NT. Something else for the coaches to think about.

Thommo out
Greenwood in

There will only be 1 change

We play at 7pm so will be more like 26.

Agree Cameron plays at TIO, similar to the Queensland environment he grew up in, might give him a spark. If he doesn't fire, has to go back to the 2s, run around and get some football. Has been invisible for a while now.

Milera similar but what he does, he does very well. Don't think an SANFL run would hurt though, again just to get his hands on the footy a bit more. Maybe tell Gooch or Poholke they get one game while he rotates through.

Obviously Thommo and Mackay out. They just look such a considerable standard below. Problem with Mackay getting 20 touches is how often the opposition get a free run from his turnovers. His disposal is so embarrassingly bad.

Surprised at Douglas criticism, didn't get a heap but what he did was mostly elite. Versatile player, brings strength and smarts around the ball.

Kelly played his best game but wonder how much that had to do with playing on Stringer, looks like he couldn't give a shit right now and would rather be on a beach somewhere. Obviously won't be dropped after that but Doedee's form is building nicely, would love to see him get a run before the season's out.

After finding some physical spark, the last player we want to bring in is Seedsman. Lacks pressure and presence. Kicks the ball long, that's all he's got.

Would bring in Wigg for Mackay, providing he plays ok this weekend. Let's have a look at the kid, who knows, he might fit right in and give us another dimension.

OUT: Thompson, Mackay
IN: Greenwood, Wigg
