Can't afford to lose the next two, won't be many rests this or next week but the following week against the woods you may see a rest or two

Simply can't afford to drop a game top two is ridiculously important to win a home final after a bye get another bye and another home final before the gf

Got to be careful in resting too many also

Oh god no. Thommo's game was as bad a game as any Crow has had since god knows when. I would be absolutely gobsmacked if he were picked again this week, or ever. But if he is, I can only hope he is somehow able to turn back the clock at least one more time... I was simply arguing that Tex saying what he did was to be expected and can't really be claimed as being indicative of a poor culture at the club. He stuck up for a teammate. That's it.

But you don't need to make up shit to stick up for him, that's the point I'm making. Walsh wanted us to be a genuine football club. 'Non statistical' roles for out of form senior players are one of the first utterings that should go. We don't protect our juniors by making up rubbish. Thommo has never been anything other than the sum of his possessions and tackles. He offers nothing else, never has and never will. He doesn't run defensively, he doesn't take out the oppositions best midfielder, he gets the ball and when he doesn't and he's close enough, he tackles.

A genuine football club with a good culture can admit that a club legend had a stinker. You don't need the captain trotting out the, "but he brings so much more", like we did with the VB's, Wright's, Reilly's and out of form Dmac's. We can admit that he had a poor one. Or at least we should be able to. If we can't, then I'd argue it's a significant indication of a poor culture.

Agree with this and probably we can start to match up our selections to our opposition from then on. If they have an extra (most teams) tall then Otten plays and one of Kelly/Doedee plays. Otherwise, Kelly and Doedee can play if they are more mediums and smalls.

Personally, I see this next six weeks as Otten's audition for Hartigan's permanent spot. Apart from one outstanding game against Port, Hartigan hasn't had a good season. Started well and peaked against Port but the last month or two he has been average. There is only 1cm between Hartigan and Otten and neither are quick. But what Otten gives up slightly to Hartigan in height and speed he makes up for with his reading of the play and decision making with the ball.

I would like to see Doedee and would like to see if he is better than Kelly without dropping Kelly because he doesnt deserve that. But if we play Doedee and he is clearly better than Kelly then we can make that move and we will be better for it.

Which is why I have said all along Thompson will play. Whether it be for Greenwood or someone else he will stay in the rotation

I have no hope of seeing Lynch before Collingwood.

I can see this happening ie Seeds comes in for Milera/Cameron , Greenwood comes in or has 1 more week off. If he comes in I could see Douglas having a spell. Then against Geelong Thompson out , Mackay out , Douglas and Milera/Cameron back in
There's still no good reason to keep Thompson in for one more second of AFL football.

Maybe instead of Lever going out the door we might be able to trade Harto to another club that wants defenders. Maybe Dear or Keath can slot into his defensive role one day?????
Better than losing Lever.

Edit: Harto is way quick compared with Otto. In fact that's one of his strengths.

Dont understand this thinking at all. He'd be cheap, is young, big/strong/quick enough to nullify most tall forwards. Thats the sort of puzzle piece you need to be able to afford to bring in elite talent in other, more critical spots - i.e Midfield

Good post. Like the bit 'never been anything other than the sum of his possessions and tackles'.

Tonight is Melt night, I mean slection, people seem comfortable with mackays performance last week, so only melt for this week wouod be if Thommo retains his spot, we know greenwood is coming in as pyke has already said it, there are no injuries. Can seriously only see one change with Greenwood in thommo out although Milera out wouldnt surprise me

True. But closing speed is also affected by starting position. If otten is positioned better there is less to close down. Harto is also better at spoiling over the top of a marking contest. But lately he has been spoiling our own players.
