Not really. We needed more midfield power.
Sure, but take the worst forward off… that was quite clearly Amiss and has been for some weeks.
I’m not disputing the decision to take a forward off for a midfielder, but it was utterly bizzare to take off one whose been good over the last month, and leave on one that has been horrible.

We are just too tall.
One of the tall forwards has to go. It’s exactly what Xav Ellis said on HBG pod last week - if we play two rucks then Amias or Voss has to be dropped.

If the coach is picking players based on reputation, Draft position and the size of their pay packet, amiss will stay and Voss will be dropped.

If we are selecting players based on actual evidence and performance in games this season, and to give us the best chance of winning v Hawks, Voss will stay in and amiss will be at peel.

Probably a week too early but I really want to see Sturt in this forward line somehow too, as soon as possible.
He. Kicks. Goals.
Better than anyone else we have apart from Treacy.

Switta in for Dudley
Also think JOM probably comes in for MJ or Erasmus, not too fussed which them

Banners did a great job today.

Not saying he's perfect, but he has corrected many of his faults to still be considered the club goofball. His benefit as a utility and impact sub still has potential.

He could have done well to patch up the giant hole in the forward line but he was too busy patching up the giant hole in defense.

Amiss out is a non negotiable. The fact he stayed on whilst Voss got subbed was one of the worst things I’ve seen this year.

In: Omac, Switta, Walker
Out: Banfield, Amiss, Dudley
Only if Amiss kicked that goal and perhaps the next. Then would’ve been a great sub.

Amiss doesn’t get many opportunities yet he chokes the chances he does.

The forward line is fine. It needs Switkowski in for Dudley.

Voss can’t be the second forward, plus more pressure on Treacy. Either McDonald comes in to replace Amiss or keep the three.

Really REALLY need a fast small forward. The pressure is crap inside 50.

Yeah Banners was good. As long as we are using Wagner up the field and Walker is not back, Banfield stays in defense. He'll stay in regardless as he's better than Erasmus.
Walker should come in anyway.

Watson then Elliott to come, Chapman definitely can’t play on those two.

Banfield can go half back/wing. Johnson or Erasmus has to come out in that case, which should be the case

I do think having all of Darcy, Jackson, Amiss, Voss and Treacy is too tall… if Darcy could play forward then you could more easily drop Amiss, as you could always rest one of the rucks up front.

The issue is when Darcy isn’t in the ruck he’s practically useless, and Jackson’s best position is also ruck so needs plenty of time in there.

There is an imbalance.

Jackson best position isn’t the ruck. Against Grundy, Marshall, And this week Meek he struggles. They don’t allow him to leap at the ball and he isn’t strong enough.
Can see going back to the resting forward but that means Tracey and Voss under huge pressure whenever Jackson is in the ruck

Out: Banfield, Amiss and Erasmus
In: Walker, Switkowski and Sturt

FB: Ryan Pearce Walker
HB: Clark Cox Chapman
C: Wagner Jackson O'Driscoll
HF: Reid Treacy Switkowski
FF: Sturt Voss Frederick

R: Darcy Bolton Brayshaw

I: Serong O'Meara Johnson Worner

S: Dudley

Not for this thread but someone at the footy club needs to do some serious work with Amiss inthe offseason before he is destroyed long term.
He’s completely shot of confidence and routine set shots he would be kicking in his sleep as a 17yo are being missed.
He looks a nervous and terrified everytime he gets a set shot a goal.
He’s proven he can be a quality AFL player but this version of him is unrecognisable and lord knows what harm is doing long term to his confidence.

Darcy should have been subbed and Voss given a short run in the ruck.

His best position is still definitely ruck, by some distance - he has more influence on the game when he plays ruck than anywhere else on the field, and I think playing him forward more would be a mistake, he’s good in bursts down there, but needs to be around the ball mostly.

I don’t think either ruckman was dreadful today, Grundy had a day out sure but our mids need to wear more of the blame than the ruckmen.

I do think Amiss needs a spell, and I’d try go with just Treacy and Voss, with more smalls around them or even Omac who will put more pressure on than Amiss does.

Grundy flogged both our ruckman. It was obvious halfway into the first quarter that Jackson was not up to it.

Amiss does a Chris Tarrant and becomes a defender?

Darcy was the reason we started to get on top in the 3rd and 4th. Jackson was getting smashed in the ruck. I think we should have subbed Erasmus he was seriously shocking.
Agree. JOM needed to come in early. Thought also missed Sharp today, he would’ve done a job on Gulden.

I heard Mundy on the radio mention the hitout stats after the game. It was Grundy 20 to 17 vs Darcy and Grundy 15 to 4 vs Jackson.

Another issue was Sydney had a bunch of free kick clearances out of the centre square bounce which helped them put the ball immediately inside our D50. Grundy had the most free kicks for the game with 5. He had 3 against. Darcy and Jackson had 3 each against. I expect some of them aren't ruck free kicks although there was that early goal Grundy got from a throw in awarded against Jackson.

It looked like when Grundy was on the bench our rucks would easily dominate their 2nd ruck, but towards the end of the game that advantage had negligible impact.

Pretty obvious Grundy had Jackson’s measure. Started the game in ruck and that’s when the pile on occurred. Darcy at least can halve and get some clearances himself.
Jackson should’ve started midfield, and use that to get going early. No point having one on the bench.

Amiss to the backline is an interesting scenario. That just might work as he only has to be better than Cox for that move to succeed. Anyone would be better than Cox.
He isn’t great one on one.
Keep persisting with him forward. He just needs to nail the goals.

In: walker, sharp

Out: Dudley, Raz

Banners back up fwd

Walker in for one of hawks mozzie fleet

Sub: o’meara again

This time darcy must take hitouts at the start of the game

IN: Sam Sturt ASAP
Sturt is still the best kick for goal we have but needs a few more weeks at Peel to improve his fitness , having said that Peel have a bye next week so talk about bad luck
Would love to see Sturt in the goal square leading up at the ball carrier, Freddy could also play that role sometimes

Is it absurdity, irony, schadenfreude or just plain old dockery when we have to play 2 rucks to handle Lloyd ‘the monster‘ Meek

Gave old mate Marshall a good old touch up last night did Lloyd

3 weeks of 2 rucks and the oppo ruck has been best on or close enough twice , we’ve lost the clearance’s each time and we’ve looked brittle as **** on transition

How is this working in any way

Don't know if we have to be that concerned with the Hawks small fwds. More worried about Chol out leaping Pearce or cox or old man Gunston on the lead
