It depends why it happened.

Erasmus was subbed out at half time vs Essendon. If it impacts the midfield battle, and he is not holding his defensive position and you have pulled him off and told him and he still ignores you.

Then, if you want to win the game you don't have a choice.
That wasn’t my point & I’m not disagreeing in bringing him off.

Listening to the 'Purple Reign' pod and took away an interesting thought:

Resting Darcy for Jackson to mitigate any chance of injury on the hard Docklands turf as he's still getting his body right. This would allow O'Mac to remain in the side also.

Not sure how much of a factor the hard surface will be but it is some food for thought.

Is the hard ground good for Jackson?

Can he ruck 75% in his first game?

Can he handle Marshall?

I feel it is a dammed if you do, dammed if you don't issue.

I was all for LJ for OMac but the 'rest Darcy' option does have some merit. As you say, it also allows OMac to keep his spot after a worthy performance.

Having a rested Darcy and a tuned-up Jackson to take on Cameron may tip the balance a bit.. although I think Collingwood will touch us up, they're in ominous form.

Would also give us a better indication of whether omac can consistently play at the level he has been playing at.

Doesnt darcy need to improve his game fitness? Only way he is going to do this is play games?

I think Jackson can comfortably replace O'Meara's output on a wing. 50% wing, 30% ruck, 20% bench. Or something like that.
Johnson and jackson rotating wing and running thru middle. If think Sharpe has an injury? would explain his low numbers last game but… so would us mainly
playing thru the corridor.

He still did run 16km's.

I think any injury he may have is on the minor end.

Also, I wish they would show more than top 5 in all the metrics. Surely top 10 would be good.

Curiously, Tom Scully did 18.9km's which is the record. (He has 5 of the top 10)

The next best is 17.8km's. (24 players have done over 17.3km's including Sharp)

I don't think the wing role is best measured with disposals though.
I actually saw a lot of Sharp during the game so was surprised he had so little.
There was one contest on our side of the wing where I was surprised to see Johnson on the fat side, and Sharp in close though.

I think overall the game was more corridor based which reduced his opportunities, and there were still a lot of kicks long down the line even when it did stay.

Was more confident in a Freo win against Adelaide than I am against St Kilda based on our recent away form.

With the media questioning St Kilda and Ross giving them a spray, it'll be good viewing to see if this team has matured enough since the Melbourne game.

We have a tall backline, and the Saints aren't overly tall upfront, so it'll be very interesting to how that transpires.

Jackson is a better chop out for Darcy in the ruck.

We can rest Darcy more effectively during a game than we can with either Voss or McDonald. While both have been decent replacements neither one can do what Jackson can.

Yeah, I'm leaning toward protecting Darcy from taking on too much. His history with injury suggests he might be better managed for a game every now and then after coming back. This might be a better strategy to make sure he's humming toward the tail end of the season.

(Reid) As sub, protect him from first season burnout👍

Definitely agree with you here.

It's like the week leading up playing to playing Melbourne again - them copping a battering in the media leading up to the game, hopefully we have learnt from that.

Hard to believe there is debate on OMac staying in. He is 100% coming out for Jackson. OMac is purely cover for injuries.

Darcy, Jackson both play. Marvel is a fast deck, if anything we might sub Darcy off in the 3rd for some legs. Simpson? Push Wagner up the ground.
