http://www.afl.com.au/news/2014-05-08/harvey-urged-to-coach-again

With this article today it made me think. Could Mark Harvey be a good senior assistant to Sando next year?

Myself and a handful of others have mentioned this and been scoffed at. I rate him highly after what he was able to transform Freo into from where they were. Then they go and get Ross Lyons to take the reigns after all his hardwork.

Would love him at the club, and wouldn't hesitate in giving him the top job if Sando continues to fail.

Of course there is - but if we follow that argument through to it's logical conclusion, then nobody should ever be signed up for more than a year unless we think they're a chance to get poached. And that would create a terrible "haves" and "have nots" culture.

It's a list manager's job to take calculated risks on how much longer a player can be relied on to be in our best 22. I am very comfortable with Reilly's contract going until the end of next year.

And another year of Reilly - great. Carry him to 300 games.

That's not the logical conclusion at all. But it's certainly an appropriate strategy as players start to reach the end of their careers. We signed Reilly for 2 years around May in the midst of a bit of a form slump. Had we waited a few weeks when the slump resulted in dropping for a week, would he have gotten the second year. Signing him when we did was unnecessary and giving him the extra year was excessive.

Surely you're not that simplistic to consider that the strategy for signing players heading into their 30's is logically the same as the top end players in their early 20's. Logical conclusion, pfffft.

I totally agree. I rate harvey and would love to see him end up with us

I don't agree the things being said about Reilly here. He still is capable of making a valuable contribution to this club and I have no problems with him staying here next year, as for the year after, we'll wait and see, but I am very confident that he'll return to playing good football. That shoulder injury hindered him for a very long time and should be taken into account when assessing where he is at.

I get the feeling as the year goes on he'll return to form.

First of all I am going to name people that we should get rid of and you don't have to agree on all of them but I think its what we need.

Board

Steven Trigg- sack
Phil Harper- sack
David Noble- demote
Mark Bickley- change role or sack
Scott Camporeale- sack
Nick Paulos- sack
Peter Jonas?
Alan Stewart?
Tate kaesler?

Players

Shaun McKernan- trade/delist
Jared patrenko- trade/delist
Brodie Martin- trade/delist
Angus Graham- delist
Lewis Johnston- trade/delist
Brent Reilly- trade/delist
Jason porplyzia- retire/delist/trade
Luke Thompson- trade/delist
Ben Rutten- he's definitely retiring this year

I know not all will agree but even if you don't speak up everyones opinion counts.

Start with Steven Trigg and Nigel Smart.....then go from there.

Start with Trigg out, somebody fresh and aggressive and exciting in who isn't a yes man. Pick out any dickhead off the streets with some balls and some passion to lead our club and they'll be better than what we have now. I'd even be happy with that goose Jeff Kennett.

Plus I reckon we NEED to go hard for coaches, particularly an experienced and successful senior assistant. Bomber thompson anyone? Offer him $1m a year. Or bring in somebody from the outside, ala Michael Voss or whoever else is available. Dennis Pagan even. Chuck the bloody house at bringing Malcolm Blight back.

Get rid of Camporeale Bickley and Clarke (Bickley is probably a good midfield coach but he's been here long enough and we need outside influence). Offer some money at likely retirees like Jono Brown or Chris Judd for an assistant gig. Or even somebody like Nathan Bassett? I'm probably speaking out of my ass but I don't care who it is, we just need somebody DIFFERENT with fresh ideas, because I'm sick of the same old shit.
One of the best, most refreshing, honest, no-bullsh1t posts I've read in a long, long time. But the absolute #1 change that needs to be made....before anyone or anything else....is getting rid of Trigg. Only then can other issues be addressed, but not before.

Well done 40porpoise :thumbsu: :thumbsu: :thumbsu:.

The only reason that Bicks a) got the job and b) keeps his job must be that he's got photos of Trigg and Chapman naked rolling around on a table full of Balfours frog cakes.

I can think of no other way a defensive, tagging midfielder is our best option to structure and coach a forward line. Any forward line.

:) :) :) :) :) :)

If you could bring these photos to me....not only could you name your price, but I'd throw my arms around you and plant a big, wet, sloppy kiss on your cheek.
If we keep Bicks....in any role....then have him as a Midfield coach, but as a Forward Line coach?!? o_O

Either campo or bicks must be replaced with a coach who has played as a forward recently.

We need to be realistic though, our club is not in a position to afford to do that. This is reality of Trigg's reign as CEO is that our club has close to the lowest income of any AFL club, while the club continues to attempt to put on a façade that we are a "have" club, the reality is that our level of revenue is down with St Kilda, North Melbourne and the Bulldogs.

Adelaide* $34.3m
Brisbane $43.5m
Carlton $57.1m
Collingwood $75m
Essendon $63m
Fremantle* $46.6m
Geelong $56m
Gold Coast# N/A
GWS# N/A
Hawthorn $64m
Melbourne $39.4m
North Melbourne $32m
Port Adelaide $39.1m
Richmond## $44.8m
St Kilda $29.9m
Sydney $42.7m
Western Bulldogs $34m
West Coast $56m

Where are these figures from? As if Port had higher revenue than us?

Very well put. Dunno about Brett Burton....he may or may not be the best option as a fitness/conditioning coach. Honestly don't know one way or the other. Could be an Ace? Just dunno.
But the other comments? 99.99% spot on.
