He's going to try and wrestle 5 guys and we're going to bomb it to him all day.

luckily there are plenty of glass chins for him to "accidentally" punch when attempting the spoil.

It is so painful watching Jake Lever kill it for Adelaide and Trengove unable to get a gig in a team with without 3 of its 4 best contested players... Can't help but think back to the trade with Richmond that fell through - Trengove for pick 12. We would absolutely have taken Lever with pick 12 in that draft, we were right into him with our earlier pick too. I was torn about it at the time - 'head versus heart' but clear to see now that it would have been an absolute steal.

We wouldn't have gotten Lever, Adelaide wouldn't have traded down from 10-14 with Geelong if they knew we were into Lever with pick 12

It was Trengove and 23 for 12. 23 turned into Sam Frost and two late picks, who turned into ANB and O.McDonald. Silver linings.

And GWS took McKenna with 23 who we got for a pack of chips.

So we traded a pick swap in 2016 for Frost, ANB, OMac and McKenna....

McKenna will never play a game and there's no chance that any club other than GWS would have drafted him at 23. For all we know we might have drafted Zach Merrett if we'd kept the pick.

Bit harsh on the guy given that 18 months ago we were saying the same thing about Hunt...

G2B is right, McKenna was a very speculative pick at 23 and wasn't even close to getting a game at GWS.

Hunt was a pick that literally noone saw coming at 57 and wasn't close to getting a game for us for two years. McKenna was also in the best developing side in the comp AND had mostly played cricket up until draft time.

I'm not saying he'll make it per se, but he's been hurt all damn year and the club was red hot on him when he got picked up.

No doubt, but just because Hunt came good out of nowhere doesn't mean it's likely other players in the similar situation will. Fact is rarely do players picked in the 3rd round become any good, they're drafted that low for a reason. Everyone remembers the diamonds in the rough like Hunt but they forget the other 10 guys who didn't make it.

Our recruiters had a vision for Hunt when they drafted him - while we might have been into McKenna in his junior years it's not exactly the same, he doesn't have the elite pace or the growth spurt history which gave Hunt such huge upside. It's apples and oranges.

Could always loan Pat to the aussie cricket team for some back door payments :thumbsu: They'll need players

He's done pretty well for himself, would have been paid $70k per year for the last three years as a speculative AFL pick, wouldn't have made nearly that much money in his first few years as a cricketer.

We didn't pick up McKenna by accident. The coaches clearly see something there. Shame he's been injured, but I'd think they'd give him another year ahead of Tim Smith for example.

So if the following teams win - Saints, Geelong, North, West Coast - which is all going with the favourites except the Saints...

A win on Sunday would see us 4th
A loss would see us 9th

FMD this season is close.

The saints are getting a really good percentage boost right now...

Yeah, great point tulip (and g2b). Think I'm just really disappointed in how things have turned out for trenners... really thought he had the goods prior to the injury and seems a top bloke, just hasn't deserved this!

On another note, are the saints in fast forward tonight? Oh my... this type of play is what I have expected from them all year (also more like what I expect from Richmond too)

Whatever Port did to Carlton is what we need to do tomorrow. Our percentage was holding us in good stead earlier in the year but we're in need of a boost now

We're also one of two top eight sides yet to play the Lions, meanwhile Port have gotten them twice. Richmond and the Dogs get them twice too, all before we've even played them.

Seems fair that the reigning premiers are allowed to play the wooden spooners twice. I see the AFL made it very hard for the Dogs

To be fair they weren't the wooden spooners outright...that was a certain group of drug cheats
