You only drop players if there is someone better to bring in. It is ridiculous to suggest Suckling should be dropped. His ball use has been brilliant all season. Made mistakes last night but he is one of the first picked every week and so he should be. I am sick of these keyboard warriors supporters bagging Jong. Give the kid a chance for the rest of the year and in finals. Until then supporters shut up and leave him alone. Hrovat has been out for ages and will need at least two full games in the VFL before being considered. Injury can bring opportunities to other players. With Jack out, now T.Boyd needs to step up and show the football world and himself that he can play. This could be the making of him. The same for Bailey Dale. The same for Joel Hamling, whos form has been shithouse in the VFL but now he needs to replace Morris, who will be out for a month I reckon. Or Zaine Cordy gets an opportunity. You cannot drop players or rest players , there are too many injuries and no one to replace them. Dahl and Mc Lean will not play until Round 19, so cannot include them this week.

In: Stringer, Dale, Minson.
Out: Redpath, Wallis, Morris

Suckling has not been using it well for a lot of this year? **** me you must watch different games of football to me, he went at 95% last week, 75 week before, 95 in Geelong game. Besides Daniel he has consistently been our best ball user this year.
Biggest show off to ever wear the colors. Needs to watch Lindsay Gilbee tapes and learn not to exaggerate his kicking.Just play the percentages. And learn how to mark overhead and contest.

We need smart footballers to have any chance against Geelong, if McLean is fit he's straight in for a Jong or Stevens.

I still don't think we can play all of Jong, Stevens and Dunkley together, they are far too alike and Stevens and Jong are poor users of the footy, but Dunkley was best performed so he stays, Stevens probably a bit stiff but Smith and Picken are miles ahead and will play his sort of role instead.

Anyone wanting Honeychurch to return, I just can't justify him coming in for anyone if McLean is fit as Dickson and Smith are more important up forward for us, if McLean isn't fit then maybe we use him as a defensive forward.

Hopefully Roughy can get up but he's likely sore, wonder if Campbell will be fit also?

Or maybe it is preconceived ideas about a player, he has been great this year and his kicking often puts us in attacking positions we would not get to as no one else can pull off his kicks, of course he is going to clanger some every now and again as he is pulling off very high difficulty kicks to achieve that not dinky safe 15 metres floaters, if you can't see that difference then there is no hope.

I actually didn't really know a lot about him before he came here. He was just one of many skilled Hawks and I didn't really know a huge amount him. He wasn't high up on my radar one way or another, other than I knew he was great by foot. And he is at his best. His contested stuff did surprise me, I thought perhaps he would be better in that area.

I'm a fan of his, I know his capabilities and I know he goes for high difficulty kicks. The problem is a man has to know when to hold em, know when to to fold em and know when to walk away and know when to run.

Not all his kicks need to be high difficulty. Sometimes he need to play the percentages. There will be times he needs to take the risks and we will want and need him too. The balance right now is off, I think his confidence is down as a result. Just needs to take a step back, get back to some basics and he'll be alright. But he may not be able to do that at AFL level, a spell at Footscray might help him to re-calibrate and get some confidence. However with the injuries we have we probably don't have that luxury.

Very harsh on Stevens. He was best on week prior.

Ins
Stringer, Dahlhaus, Minson, Hamling

Outs
Jong, Wallis, Redpath, Morris

McLean probably needs a game or two in the twos, before we bring him back.

However they want to replace Wally I'm fine with, but Minson simply has to come in for Jack.

Tomaboyd to go permanent forward. He's been ok in the ruck but we need a target in the forward line and he's the only option now. And I don't want to see us play like that Norf game where we had no target.

Please for the love of Christ may Stringer be fit to come back in. We missed him so badly last night - much though we were rubbish, as we saw against Richmond, he can be the match winner for us if we're not playing well.

If Morris can't come back, bring Hamling in.

Isn't next week round 19? So that will mean Dahl and McLean will be avaiable for selection.

That's a decent team really

If McLean isn't fit then Stevens plays, but Honeychurch could used also

I think if we have enough midfield options next week and a few forwards come back in then we can drop Stevens, this isn't form related, it's purely tactical, we have too many mid/fwd types and imo it hurts our creativity

Who gets dropped, Dunkley or Stevens in this situation? Smith is better than both

I dont understand the number of people who are claiming Suckling has only had last night as his only bad game. I must be watching different games. His first game back from his ankle injury was poor and he has had at least one other shocker since plus the poor one last night. I think he should not be dropped and should get selected due to credits in the bank but i don't agree he has been poor only once this year.

Wallis - Dahl
Red - Stringer
Morris - Hamling
Jong - Mino
Dickson - Honey

The first 3 injured the next two just bad

Dahl to play in the VFL first week back. And i'm not bringing back Stringer yet, shoulders can ruin seasons

I don't get why people want to drop Suckling. We don't have the luxury to drop players in the back line due to injury or inexperience. If Bevo still believes we can have an impact in the finals then there's no way he'll bring in inexperience and sacrifice a good chance for that.
FWIW Suckling is a good kick but watching him at Hawthorn, he's always had some limitations. We have to take the good and the bad with him. When he pulls off his kicks it's always rewarding but very risky too.
Suckling should never play for us again ever

I agree with this. Desperate people make desperate mistakes. Rather be conservative lose to Geelong and be competitive in the rest of the games and finals.

Is this sarcasm or for real. I'll take it as real. Yep should be gone. No right side. Soft on inside. Not fast enough to play outside. Decision making is average to poor when pressured. Makes clangers that cost goals.

We need a season reassessment
Top 4 is no longer possible.

The priority should be to have everyone we can back and firing leading into the finals.

The weeks break after round 23 is unique and the possibility of a team going all the way from outside top four is more possible then ever before.

During the next 2 games a few will come back from injury but players like Dalh Williams McLean Adams Morris will need to be nursed into form.

The priority over the next period is to make our forward line function. Nothing else. That is our Achilles heal. Get that right and we remain a contender from any position.

I see him stuff up a lot of kicks. I see it every week. He tries for too much. He has a few mates for sure, we as a team use the ball poorly a lot. But Suckers is renowned for his kicking skills and just has no excuse not to be better.

I am often surprised by stats when I am at a game. I think the stats often don't tell the full story. I'm going by what I see when I'm at games and when I watch on TV, I know what I saw last night for example. I think his kicking at times this year has been diabolical, for someone with his skills, others well they don't have his ability by foot. Added to that is that he's not a one on one player. He's in the team for his kicking, and he just has to be very good at that, if not then what else? Right now, he's lucky to be in the team in my view. I want him in playing well, he's important.
confirmation bias is more likely.

Agree, I think 3 of his last 6 games have been shockers. Go back and check his games against Port and Sydney.

Yes, he is not the greatest player in the world and I admit he has played some average games, not shocking-average. But his ball use is elite and thats what the Dogs recruited him for, as well as his leadership. And I think because of his kicking style, when he makes a mistake, it really stands out. But his disposal is normally shit compared compared to some other players who consistently turn it over.
