So you don't think that Sloane and Danger should be carrying this team because they are 23? They are both leaders of the club had outstanding seasons last year and finished 5th and 27th in the Brownlow. They are both considered elite and are not performing at that level.

We had 5 players listed in Sheehan's top 30 - Jacobs (27), Sloane (26), Thommo (20), Walker (8), Dangerfield (3). I don't think anyone can argue that along with Talia/Truck these are our most talented pand important players. Perhaps I am being a bit harsh on Sloane, but these 5 guys just are not performing up to their 2012 standard and potential and as a result we are 2-3 and are yet to play a finals team from 2012.

You can keep bringing up Mackay / Vince / Douglas / Reilly / Petrenko et al - but these guys have never been more than contributors to our side (excluding an 10 week period in 2009) . They have never been considered elite players, nor will they ever be.

The #1 reason we are 2-3 and playing like shit is because our star players are not playing up to the levels they can and were last year.

Don't paint Sloane with your underperforming brush. He has been epic this year. Easily our best (with Douglas??!?! Crap an anvil!). I shudder to think how bad we'd be without him.

The issue with our forward structure is that our third tall defender also happens to be the only one capable of playing that lead up CHF role ATM.

Jenkins and Lynch play like tall flankers while McKernan will sit in the goal square. I realise we need to give Jenkins time but he needs to learn to start using his size if he is going to make it.

Johnston is the unknown. He does have a pretty good leap on him at least.

Danger has been one of our better players this year anyway. Not devastating, but still among our best.

He's an inside midfielder - very hard to dominate when your teammates and lead ruckman are letting you down.

Quality midfielders will get the football no matter what. Look at Mitchell at Hawthorn / Watson for Essendon (2012) / Ablett at Gold Coast / Thompson for us in 2011 etc.

Watson and Ablett are Brownlow medallists, for crying out loud. Those two are probably the most in-form players in the entire competition. The reason I am comparing him to elite players is because he should be elite. Do yourself a favour and look at the top 7 players from last years brownlow (Watson/Swan/Cotchin/Mitchell/Thompson/Ablett/Dangerfield) and their form between 2012 - 2013. Danger is the only one to go significantly backward. This is a major worry. He is a massive barometer for our side. There is a direct correlation between our poor form and Danger not performing.

I dont disagree, but every team has vanillas. Couldn't believe some of the names I was hearing watching some 97 footage the other day. Rintoul, Sampson, Bond etc.

It is funny how being a premiership player can replace peoples view on a vanilla type player.

Balance of power has shifted though.

All those guys were in and out of the team. Fringe players. Now they are integral and play hundreds of games.

Hawthorn and Essendon also benefit from having two very good running half backs in Birchall and Dempsey, we've got Reilly. But hey let's hang it all on our best players and not worry about the others because Reilly is best 22.
