I've literally given up on this thread, seeing the bring back Clarke and Clancee, and drop Hughes posts.. Seriously! Based on what?? Isn't that what got us where we are now? Young guys need a string of games to prove themselves, not to be dropped after one bad game. De boer and co have had more than enough chances, no going back imo. Although Hughes didn't get much of the pill, he looked composed, something I can't say for Ibbotson.

Ross will keep Hughes, no worries there.

Yeah because he wasn't average last week, and you weren't kind enough to call him average either.

He was average this week though and the backline is a problem.

I was being kind this week. So you want to drop him based on 1 bad game in you're eyes? Not having a crack, just curious.
My criticism wasn't based solely on last week. I think we all have those players whom we think are just not up to it & notice everything they do (Dawson/Suban/Ibbo/Pearce/Tabs).that's Sutty for me.
I think he'd be ok on a wing pushing fwd, just not a good defender & form isn't up to scratch lately. Can't help but notice his many mistakes this season.

The match committee don't listen to us.
Hughes will stay in and we will bring in one or maybe two kids. Langdon back and maybe Grey.

I'd say Clarke is finished.

what warmed my heart was when he led up the ground and the kick was overcooked and he had to prop giving his man time to close and spoil and he used his body beautiful and took a strong mark. We have so many players who can't clutch a contested mark, we desperately need a few who can take them linking up in transition.
That and a couple of his kicks were superbly weighted. Thats the big one for me, how well players weight their kicks. Hill is a genius at it.

Happened right in front of me, and remember thinking, wow, most of our blokes would have dropped that!

Totally agree. Ross is also clearly trying to pick good ball users, hence why grey got dropped, he adds grunt not skill, something I also believe crozier has. Ross is going to cull the hell out of this list at years end.
I used to come on this forum to talk/read dockers with people who really know our club. Unfortunately there is only a few good posters left. Some of the trash that is posted now is straight off the Freo Facebook page.

I named quite a few players that were a concern.
TBH, no I don't want him dropped. I think he's been OK to good this year in a very ordinary defence. His performance this week I didn't like so much but I'd have him in the defence before Ibbo and Sheridan. I think he defends better than them, and yes given a time when we have better options for our defence, I agree there could be other roles for him in the team.

That's why god (ok not god, just some computer programmer locked away in a dungeon somewhere) invented the BF ignore function - what I like to call the idiot filter. Trust me, it can keep you sane on here.

I have watched, played and coached enough footy over the years to normally know good players when I see one in their first few games. Hughes is one of those, he will stay in and to be honest given his size and barring injury he should play every game for the rest of the year.

Langdon I am almost as sure will make it and should come in this week. If I had my way it would be to try him either in place of Ballantyne (very unlikely) or to play on Puopolo as he is very fast and may also help with rebound. We need another small fast defender and he could be ideal although he normally plays on a wing at Peel. Our lack of height in defence ATM will be less important against Hawthorn but the HBF is still an issue.

But recently Langdon disposal a big issue use to be good user of the ball.

So is Lachie Neale having trouble ATM. If a player comes in with good field kicking ability they do not lose that but they can have patches where their confidence or extreme pressure stops them showing it but it comes back with confidence and experience as well. Players with below average field kicking at the time they are drafted will struggle to improve. Daniel Cross at the Western Bulldogs was the best example I can think of one who did but most do not or only marginally - it just takes too long and needed to be done when they were younger. For Ed Langdon I think he just needs several games to adjust to the faster pace of AFL and he will have no problems with his kicking then. Hughes was obviously a bit nervous under pressure with some of his marks deep in defense but his disposal by foot and general decision making was still very good for a second gamer - that is the best sign of a good player.

Goal kicking is different. If a player is a good field kick they can always become a good kick for goal with some help and practice over a year or two.

I want pav to at least reach his 350th. He deserves it.
The AFL's acknowledgement of Pav's achievements need to include and perhaps highlight the fact that he is also the first AFL player to clock up 18 millions kilometres to play the scheduled fixtures in his sport!
Likely the first ever in any sport!!

Interested in your thoughts on crozier then

Does Pav have to play this week to reach 350? Surely from a player management perspective, they would have looked at resting him on several of the away fixtures, nothing good can come from him travelling all the way to Tas. I would also rest Ballas, after that nasty cork he needs time to heal. Bring Grey in. Play Ibbo into form. Tanner I have no idea, but seems a valid enough reason for BF. Keep Hughes. Will fish pub ever make a comeback or are his jets too slow?

Clarke was honestly useless against West Perth. He should not be brought in at all. I would like to see Grey come back into the team, he was hard at the pill which was nice to see.

C.Pearce had the least memorable 35 disposal game I've seen. I'd rather we bring in Ed Langdon so we can expose our youf to a quality team.

its an AFL record. Not a world record. NBA players travel more considering the 82 games in the regular season. Then you add the play offs

Not a world record.
I guess they prolly go the distance.
As for Pav and Tas:Fly the family to Tas,hook'em up with salim and Reg shout'em some massive wine and oyster scoff-fest and let'em come back in time for Richmond, even if the bigfella jogs the Nully.

If Ross really is happy trialling different setups I wouldn't mind seeing us really strengthening our backline.

Spurr - A Pearce - Dawson
Grey - Mundy - Hill

Sherro and Sutty are both out of form and out of position. Both have been disappointing so far this year. Neither of them will be capable of stopping Cyril/Poppy and niether of them are providing much run out of the backline. So bring in Grey as a lock down small defender as he is the only player on our list I would be confident in stopping Poppy.

Bring in Mundy as the third/loose defender and Hill off the HB. Two elite kicks working of the backline should yield some better ball movement coming out of defence. De Boer in to help out in the guts with Mundy going back. Walters to the midfield/wing similar to what he did in the Adelaide game.

Spurr - A Pearce - Dawson
Grey - Mundy - Hill
D Pearce - Barlow - Walters
Mayne - Tabs - Langdon
Crozier - Pav - Ballas

Griff - Neale - Blakely

De Boer - Weller - Sherro - Hughes

Out: Sutty, Ibbo, Suban
In: Grey, De Boer, Langdon

Time for Crozier to produce something or move on we waited one year too long with Clarke.
