Martin is playing in this game because the selectors believe that his attributes provide us with the best opportunity to win this game. It's team balance.
The dude is like 26 years old and hasn't yet played 40 games. It's over. Bookmark it.
For the record, I like the way Martin goes about it, and would never question his endeavour or character. He just isn't an AFL player.
I don't think anyone would disagree that Martin hasn't taken his AFL opportunities by the scruff of the neck. Cruelled by injuries early and, I think, held back by a lack of confidence since then, he probably will be delisted at season's end. But, to me, he's as much an AFL player as plenty of others in the league and definitely as much as some in our team who have had far more opportunity than he has. He won't be the first fringe player who might have made it under slightly different circumstances to get the chop, but I'll be sorry for him when he goes. I hope he plays a blinder this weekend.
