Martin is playing in this game because the selectors believe that his attributes provide us with the best opportunity to win this game. It's team balance.

The dude is like 26 years old and hasn't yet played 40 games. It's over. Bookmark it.

For the record, I like the way Martin goes about it, and would never question his endeavour or character. He just isn't an AFL player.

I don't think anyone would disagree that Martin hasn't taken his AFL opportunities by the scruff of the neck. Cruelled by injuries early and, I think, held back by a lack of confidence since then, he probably will be delisted at season's end. But, to me, he's as much an AFL player as plenty of others in the league and definitely as much as some in our team who have had far more opportunity than he has. He won't be the first fringe player who might have made it under slightly different circumstances to get the chop, but I'll be sorry for him when he goes. I hope he plays a blinder this weekend.

Better balance to the side this week. Martin can play as the sub and the Rat can buzz around HFF and create havoc.

This would have to be one of the fastest sides we have put on the field for quite some time.

Probably not too far from our fastest possible side from our current list.

The Tambling incident is concrete evidence that we have a track record in giving games to certain delistees. And that was the final game of the season. And Tambling was fantastic that night.

But look, I'm sure if he gets 3 Brownlow votes in every remaining game this season he'll earn another contract!

For the record, I like the way Martin goes about it, and would never question his endeavour or character. He just isn't an AFL player. As I said, he's 26, he's been fit for the entire season, our list has been ravaged by injuries, and he'll likely end up playing 2 games for the season, both as sub. You just can't justify keeping a player of that age on the list at the expense of an 18-20 year old with potential.
Tambling was actually offered a spot on our rookie list similar to what happened to Jonas at port but Tambling declined.
Don't blame him. He goes down as one of the worst managed players to have ever played footy. Feel sorry for him cos if he had been taken at pick 45+ he would have been loved at Richmond and been a solid player for us.

just wanted to say well done to selection panel this week looks like we finally addressed our inside/outside balance our ground balls and contested possession numbers may drop a little but we will make up for it with our effective disposals n spread in both attack and defence just missing rory and brad crouch to replace wright and martin/mackay i think this will be a best performance since round 1 if the boys minds are right

I'm fully aware that he was offered a spot on the rookie list.

This does not change the fact that he was delisted. Just as Martin will be.

I would rather give Martin an extended run than Lyons (or obviously Wright/VB). I rate the kid. Something is not clicking for him - does he have halitosis?

Are you aware Martin is a free agent at the end of this season? Yes, he's actually that old and has been on the list for that long. If it hasn't clicked by now, it isn't going to.

I'd rather given to someone who hasn't had the chance to prove themselves, martin played 17 games last year, he had an extended run and those were the best games he has ever played, but at the same time it was clear that he is a depth role player at best. I admire his endeavour, he works hard and shows courage, but he's just not at level.

Good to see some progress and moves being made.

I'll refrain my spitting my dummy about Lyons being overlooked; Wright will probably be a non entity again this weekend, and hopefully JL gets a shot after that.

Excited for the Rat too; hopefully he can have a ripping debut... Like Knight did ;)

I swear brodie martin is one more contract extension away from being the lead character in a Disney movie starring Mark Wahlberg. The kid is invincible.

I can just see him kicking the game winning point to win the GF in 2017.

A game winning goal is a stretch but he could definitely slot a game winning point if he is within 20m and directly in front.

What the haters wont tell you is how he actually slotted 2.17 that day coming in as the sub at 3 quarter time and that we were down by 28 points when he entered the game.

Anyway its good to see him force his way into the team this weekend...he really left the coaches with no choice.*

*may be trolling with that last sentence...go brodie.

I bet in 20 years Brodie Martin has an absolute JET of a son ready to be drafted but he won't qualify for F/S for us because we drip fed him games over his decade in the system

Brodie Martin would be a good sub, in the game vs freo he was pretty good in the first quarter then did nothing for the rest of the game.

What is the logic in people saying we are slower. We replaced two of the slowest players on our list with Atkins who is one of the fastest and Martin who is no slouch

As long as Martin doesn't take any set shots for goal I'm happy. He's a goer and puts his body on the line. Has a big heart but one of those Steven Schwerdt types. Too good for sanfl not upto afl standard. Goodluck to him though. Love the selection of Atkins. I'm feeling good about this week. GO CROWS!!!

Every few weeks I've had the feeling that we're doing it. We're building our next premiership side. Really exciting changes which seem slowly constructed and obvious, but if you take a step back, you see how different everything is. This is the first time since Walsh's passing I've had that feeling. And boy it hurts :(
